aming, this is probably the best advice you'd get regarding your career - if you can get a job with them after graduation, grab it! they will work you like a dog but since you're young and is without a family, you should be able to take it. stay with them for at least a couple of years - you'll find that you'll be way way ahead of many of your class-mates...

i think first jobs should be about getting necessary experience, not about big bucks... i've known of people who thinks they're too good for the salary offered and two years after graduation, at interviews, companies wondered why "unwanted"... it's a bad strike against the job seeker really...

once you've gained some industry experience etc, that's when you make your pitch and sell yourself to higher bidders...

that is in general very true... however, for some companies, it's best for you join fresh from university - accenture is one of them - normally, if you don't get in early, you will not want to get in even if you are subsequently offered a job with them...

not good for me to post too much about this in public... most of the experienced guys would agree with me...

true...these consulting companies are good as a stepping stone. But they will really work u to the ground....hang in there for 3 to 5 yrs and your market value will surely appreciate....that is if u r not dead by then.... :D
Of course, there are some who continue to stay on.......

Very True. You need to eat humble pie first coz you might be the brightest student in class but so what. When you come out to the working world, nobody gives a shit how smart you are but how much you can deliver. You big pay day will come when you have enuf experience and has the unique skill sets which not everybody has or if you can be a major revenue contributor to the company. There are a lot of ppl who are very cocky coz they are straight A students and has a doctorate on hand and expect the pay to be like mount kinabalu so high but in reality, nobody will pay you for the paper qualification you have without the necessary working experience. However, once you have sufficient working experience and with the right paper qualifications, who knows, you might be taking over the place of Carly Forlina (if it is spelt correctly). She made more than USD20mil from being fired! What a deal!!

However, if you want instant big bucks and no need to slog so hard, take over your father's business if he already has one.

anyway, i don't have any specific advice to give as engineering is out of my knowledge range...
general advice, get a job that you think you'll enjoy and one that has opportunity to rise to the top...
no point getting something well paid but you absolutely hate it and lose motivation...

there's been mostly good advice on this thread (except for the oh kui tau advice - not every one is suitable for that job :D)

anyway, i read a lot about $$$ is not everything. that's true... for certain people. for some (like myself), $$$ plays a significant role in motivating myself. i'm going to say this: some jobs pay well and some jobs don't pay so well. those that pay well work you to the ground. not all people for qualify all jobs.

so bottomline - think of whether $$$ is more significant in motivating you or 'quality of life' is more important. if it's $$$ think of whether you can take the shit at work - i.e. got stamina or not. then choose the right career based on your answers.

believe me, your choice determines your career path in life. once you're in one line, it's going to be terribly difficult to move to a different one after 4-5 years working.

For fresh graduates, get some working experinece & learn some useful skills which is not found in textbooks. After a few years, if u r good, u r on the right track to make some good $.
If u want to do sales, attend sales seminar & workshops organised by Insurance companies. The training is good enough for u to sell almost anything. A good salesman is always in demand & can work freelance.
Oil & gas - try Roxar or Sapura. They do lots of stuff for Petronas. Be prepared to be based in either Sudan or Hanoi.

but sometimes luck and opportunities do come into play as well....it is the question of being at the right place and the right time......sometimes, one could be good but do not have the chance to prove their worth.

Also, your immediate boss is very important and whether he/she will fight for you and your worth to the organisation.....

But, bottom line as Uncle Ball has said above...it is also about hardwork and determination....

Hello Guys,

If you wish to strike big time...I got this phrases from someone......When you are on top...be Humble...When you are below...be Patient. I initially don't know what it really means....I have to agree with Daboss...my former smart classmates. When you get ur first job, grab it...work and gain the necessary experiences...later the ball will start rolling to you.

Oil and Gas will be a good playground but not good as it used to be as I worked for them for sometime....good for stepping ground.

Dear bros and sisters, try Aramco, Saudi Arabia. They are currently looking for lots of petroleum engineers and IT engineers. Many Petronas engineers already jumped over liao. Packages are too good to be true.

If interested, check on Saudi Aramco websites for further informations.

Dear bros and sisters, try Aramco, Saudi Arabia. They are currently looking for lots of petroleum engineers and IT engineers. Many Petronas engineers already jumped over liao. Packages are too good to be true.

If interested, check on Saudi Aramco websites for further informations.

Good luck.

interesting.. i've always tot that "it's too good to be true" is a bad thing...

but sometimes luck and opportunities do come into play as well....it is the question of being at the right place and the right time......sometimes, one could be good but do not have the chance to prove their worth.

Also, your immediate boss is very important and whether he/she will fight for you and your worth to the organisation.....

But, bottom line as Uncle Ball has said above...it is also about hardwork and determination....
i totally agree... altho it seems like luck plays a bigger role than ur own efforts to get a job, it's ok cuz u can brush up ur 'luck' by d latest keyword to success i hear everywhere - networking!
