now, coming down to serious stuff for class of 97...
many of you are now aware of the currently circulating email mailing list... it's a success, all thanks to various contributing parties... :)
i've offered to maintain the list for currently planned gathering and all other future events... any updates will be carried out and the latest list shall be sent to jee ming and victor (and anyone else in the year who would like to keep a copy)...
if you would like to be included in the list, please email or pm me... the same goes should you know someone in the year but not within the mailing list, let me know...
cheerio! and have a very happy chinese new year..!

hiya all!
i'm trying to update the class mailing list in advance to the next gathering...
if you are not already on the mailing list (i.e. you've never got mass email from me)...
then please pm and let me have your email address...
if your email has changed since the last gathering earlier this year...
please also let me know so that i can update the list...
last but not least, if you know someone who'd like to be included...
then let me have the email address as well...
don't worry, the email will not be used as spam...
and it's really to facilitate next year's gathering organisation...

Sorry for interrupting. Would you like trying something like SMARTGROUPS?

thanks for that alka!
however, our class list is maintained pretty much solely for the annual gathering...
we don't have other yahoo group or any group set up per se...
because we come in to the forum and chit chat here...
in any case, i'll definitely have a look into that...
although i personally would be inclined not to use it...
it's like another frienster and bebo stuff...
and i'm not a big fan of something like that...

I do agree with you. No forum can beat ACS forum! :D
But I use smartgroups to keep in touch with my CFP course mates and it's the best thus far compared to yahoo group and friendsters. My 2 sen.

ah... but you see, the concern i have would be...
one extra group to join, then there's password to remember...
(as well as worry over spamming/ advertising)...
and if we only use it once a year near CNY time to organise gathering...
people got to login for checking details etc...
it's really a lot more work for our purpose, no..?

Mass mailing can be very confusing and clustered if everyone start responding to different topics. Smartgroups are very much like a forum and you can reply thru your email to some topical discussion. Very good.
Try using the same login/password to this forum to avoid remembering additional logins.
Anyway, I am not trying to promote for Smartgroups. Just trying to assist you getting all your buddies together in a better way. :)

i can understand that, and i totally appreciate your suggestion...
i'm actually checking out their features at the moment...
also, our class has this system, maybe a bit old fashion but so far it works well...
what we did in the last couple of years was me keeping the list and emailing everyone...
and everyone reply pretty much just to me, so i can compile it...
so that everyone get a daily digest... :D
(in the period of organising the gathering, and collecting pics, that's all... not all year round!)

Lilian, if you plan something, you should try to plan it during first few days of CNY. I finally bought my plane tickets so my hubby and I are coming home next year for CNY, yay!!! But we'll only stick around Sitiawan from 2/17-2/21. Then we'll go to KL and cllimb for a few days at Batu Caves and then we'll spend 1 week at Krabi (if there's no riot there) for more climbing :).

usually it's around that period of time, so now i just need to figure who's doing the organising...
i was told that the next gathering is vimel's job to organise!
must find someone to check that out... or else jee ming will have to do it himself, hahaha...
gosh, you've got your flights already!
i have only been checking out prices at the moment...
hope i'll buy mine by next week or so... yippee!!

Yup, bought it yesterday, $1400 a piece, yike. Oh well, that's the cheapest I can find with minimal stops. But now I have to look for ticket to Krabi. I'm looking at Air Asia for plane ticket to Phuket and then maybe take a cab or bus or ferry to Krabi. Anybody has any review on Air Asia? Sounds so fishy to be so cheap. Hmm..
LiLiaN
10-27-2006, 03:19 AM
gosh, that's not cheap at all! but the prices i found is just marginally better...
best price so far is €800 inclusive of taxes, flying dublin-frankfurt-kuala lumpur return...
air asia should be reliable, it's cheap because it's no-frill flight...
there are lots of flights like this in europe, which is fantastic!
i've often get flights to UK for about €50 inclusive of taxes...
and about €100 inclusive of taxes to western european cities... :)

what does no frill flight means?

what does no frill flight means?
Think it should mean basic/economy class rather than the biz suite.......
LiLiaN
10-28-2006, 03:33 AM
what does no frill flight means?they're operators which offer only flights when you pay for it...
no food or drink served, you'll need to pay for them separately...
for short haul flights, that's really not a problem at all...

air asia is like costdown lor
but still reliable...so if u wanna save cost go for airasia
yah...no food and drinks served free
all need to pay on the plane
and the seats are a bit small >.<
but for me no problem la

Is it really that cheap? The tax is more than the plane ticket.

well, airport taxes are inevitable...
and they vary depending on the airport that you use...
KLIA for one, i was informed, has rather high airport tax...

free flights are very much a promotional thing and you pay only airport taxes...
one good way of getting notified is by their mailing list...
i sign up to a couple of mailing list like this here in europe...
i've got free flights before where it costed me about 30-40euro ($35-$50)...
and i got to fly return to pisa on one occasion, paris on the other...
no one can ever complain about prices like that!

Yeah.. Vimel was nominated. And he appointed Tze Wei as the assistant.
So it's up to this two guys this year!
Vimel's in Miri now tho. So i've no idea if he's gonna be back for CNY.
Nope.. JM wont be organising it this year. He's been doing organising with victor for the past few years..
So taking turns is good.
=)
QUestion now is if Vimel's gonna be around..
If not.. it's tze wei then..

Exactly, especially when vacation and money is so limited. Most of the time I rather spend the time and money and travel somewhere else than Malaysia.
