glad to hear that sila. the point is just to start. over time you'll build up your stamina and you'll miss the rush that you get whe you exercise, if you don't do the exercise...
I agree - when ppl go on holidays they worry about where to stay and etc - I worry whether the place I'm going to have got gyms. There was a time when I didn't work out for 2 weeks - felt that something was missing and in a way felt miserable. Of course I didn't let that ruin my holiday. Makan jugak!

Hi Sila. Finally decided to post something here after quietly reading everyone's posts. You are off to a good start. I used to brisk walk and did me a lot of good. Put on your mp3 player or discman and that will help keep you entertained while you work out.
You go, Girl!

thanks janice - glad to see you posting now! :D keep it up! and i will try to keep up my walk. i think tomorrow i will have to get up early and get on that damn treadmill, but will have to keep the pace down a bit - i am so out of shape (aka ROUND) that my legs are just dying right now. maybe after i sleep tonight it will feel better in the morning but if not i will still get on but not push the pace too hard... :)

Sila....jaga badan for the big day :p
i admit, it does play a bit part but i think now that i hit 30, i should take care of myself a bit better lah. last 2 years i started by moderating food intake and improving quality of food (i.e., less potato chips and more fruits and veggies), and last year i gave up exercise in the gym, so this year must take it back up lah... ;)

euj - the kenduri is on may 21st (saturday) - i'll be home the 2 weeks before and the 2 weeks after. i'm not sure when pebs will be home - you should coordinate with her too? bear in mind i will be more free after than before the wedding (since i'm sure my parents will have us running around doing errands and finalizing documents and whatever). that's my timetable :)

for dinner on the weekend? depends on who's coming. i have some friends who are vegetarian or else strictly "organic" meats only that sort of thing. so depending on who's coming must tailor the menu to what they can eat lah. i thought if the vegetarian comes over, i might make pajeri nenas or pajeri terung, all vegetarian stuff. really, it's vegan since we use coconut milk. make some kind of meat dish for the meatatarians. i could have bean thread, tofu stir fry on the side and rice?
or else do a baked pasta and meatball dish, and separate out the non-meatball in a separate container so that one is vegetarian can eat the vegetarian baked pasta dish. i dunno lah. if the vegetarian one doesn't come, then i have more options. maybe i can make rendang one more time...can't have too much rendang! :D

i'll have to dig up my mom's email (of course, rendang is my mom's fabulous recipe) :D. i shared the recipe with euj but he hasn't tried it yet.
kari very easy one...every time i go home i bring back a bunch of my favorite kari powders from malaysia. the principal is the same regardless of what kind of meat you want to make into kari. mix the kari powder with water to make a paste. saute shallots (or onions oso can), garlic. (can get fancy and throw in a cinnamon stick, star anise, that sort of thing but if leave out it's still OK). put in the kari powder paste, and may have to add a bit of water. fry this until fragrant (you can see the oil separate and rise up). this means it's ready - put in the meat and you can brown it for a short time in the yummy kari paste. add coconut milk, water, salt, potatoes. when it's all nice and tender, your kari is ready!
if no kari powder, to approximate the kari powder is a bit of an experiment lah. i only did it once, and it actually turned out. i mixed chilli powder, kari powder, bit of ground cinnamon, bunch of other things. mostly i sniffed to see if it smelled like it belonged in a kari. much easier to just get the packaged stuff (i just get whatever my mom uses at home).

Don't think I'd dare "agak-agak" on the curry powder if I dun have some. I get really obsessive with my cooking - everything needs to be nice when cooked (gila, I know). What to do, it's a bad habit of mine. You pm me the rendang recipe if you don't mind?

Wish I can cook up a feast - but with only two ppl, as I told Euj, we can only eat that much. Plus it'll be working days for both CNY days - so no time to prepare ahead of time.
I was addicted to Coca-Cola back in ACS when we used to have this Vending machine over at the old canteen, or was it the new one. Where all the Form 1,2 and 3 classes were. I remember it used to be $0.50 per cup. Had to drink twice a day, once during recess and once after school. Luckily I used to do sports- otherwise I would have plenty of sugar in me!
funny janice! the canteen vending machine is where i started my coke habit!! :D

CNY not auspicious leh showing black face....
Thanks! You're so nice to want to share you mum's secret recipe. A lot of ppl I know, don't like sharing their recipes.
Now that we can have proper canned Coke - you don't think the ones we had back in the old days were a bit diluted?
probably was diluted but back then, it was enough to get me hooked :)
i'm all for recipe sharing. my mother would willingly give you the recipe herself, so why should i be stingy about it ;) maybe you have some cool recipes for me.
i am learning to become an "agak-agak" cook lah. started off because my mother sent me a recipe that really forces you to agak - no quantity whatsoever. that's the way she writes her recipes. i asked her, how much of this to put in? her answer - "How big is your pot?" hmmmmm useful? NOT! :D

Hi Sila - just back from work?
i should definitely be there around your birthday euj, :)
the more important question is will you have the time for us? ;)
heya janice! it's 9 PM here so actually i've eaten my dinner (indomie goreng pedas!) and watched the newest episode of gilmore girls. thought about working but since i'm on the dial up decided i should relax tonight. ;)
euj - i will certainly try to do my best to make time. we will have to set aside a bit of time - my parents will just have to deal...if you stay on until after the 21st, i should definitely have more time after that! :D but if you can't we will have to make some time to have a good talk...

oh no! don't eat indomie! repeat after me 'INDOMIE NO GOOD!'
yup, definitely have to make time. it's so rare that we catch up nowadays. almost like once every 2 or 3 years and even then you usually don't have much time cos you gotta spend it with the family... :(
have you tried the indomie goreng "pedas"? it's actually not bad. i have to add a bunch of chilli stuff to make it as pedas as i like, but in a pinch it will do.
well, in many ways i don't blame my parents since i live so far away and they think i should spend every second of my time at home with them. and in many ways, i feel guilty enough to give them the time they demand from me. but i will be home for 4 weeks this time around, so they will just have to deal! besides, after the 21st, technically in islam, i must listen to my husband first, and my parents come after him! so... ;)

hey, i'm the kind of instant noodles. i've every, and i mean literally every, kind of instant noodles in the shop! :D
and you don't like indomie goreng pedas? with the fried shallots as part of the packet? hmmm maybe my standards have gone down? :D

Know what you mean, Sila. I'm only sometimes home for 2 weeks and that's not enough time to spend with both family and friends. Of course family will have to come first but I feel guilty and sad when I can't catch up with friends. My parents don't expect me to be at home but as a filial daughter, it's something I got to do without having to be told, right?

You have been in Oz long enough to not care what other people think. I'm getting there, to tell you the truth. Used to ALWAYS care what ppl think of me. Nowadays when I go back to KL, I just speak my mind and wear what I want. Problem is, ppl at home very ham sup lah. Always like to kacau kacau .... irritates the hell out of me!
Desperate housewives - got a strong feeling I'll be hooked on to it soon enough.

they do talk fast, but it's all good fun. a bit like the characters in dawson's creek and also that Ethan Hawk/Julie Delpy movie - Before Sunset...
i did cry at some of the scenes in GG so don't feel weird, janice! :D but i do love all their snappy comebacks and you really have to keep up with pop culture to catch all their references.
anyway, it is 12:37 AM my time. so i better get myself to bed or will have trouble getting up and going to work in the morning! gnight you guys! :D

Lorelai is so happy go lucky. We all need to learn something from her character. Her character leads such a happy life even though she struggles with having to save enough money to do the things she wants to do.
Night Sila - don't forget your brisk walk tomorrow and NO COKE FOR BREAKFAST!!!! :D
this morning i went for my brisk walk (15 minutes, 1.58 miles) and i only drank water. didn't have a coke until lunch. but not by design - i didn't have any dollar bills for the vending machine, so i had to bum a buck off my colleague. then the stupid vending machine ate my dollar and refused to dispense my coke.. :( ah well...

My sister graduated from Law School. I didn't enjoy the UK much - partly because of the weather. London was cool but very much like KL in the sense of it being dusty and sort of polluted. Nevertheless I had fun there. Everything was $$$ tho.
