engine is underpowered, poor resale value, especially compared to german brand. looks great though. front grille looks like a ferrari. great in dark grey.

I loved the look of it when it first came out, later well....the novelty wore off.
No question its a looker, though.

As for no resale value well its something to bear in mind if going for a continental that's not the Merc or Beemer. Servicing i think is not THAT expensive, considering that these kinds of cars only go in for first service at 20,000 km or higher. But then again, it does go with the territory.

You also normally have the added comfort in knowing that QC is good, have a friend bought Perdana V6, he made sure he allocated 2 weeks to keep going back and forth to Glenmarie for the small stupid little problems that our beloved national brand is (in)famous for...he was a Proton employee, so he knew what to expect.

Going continental with 2nd hand value, go Merc/Beemer and pay more. Going continental but mainstream, Peugoet/Renault, sure.

Wannabe continental but different,.....CITROEN! The C5 is also around the same price range, but a lot more gadgety (Hydractive 3 suspension, last of a dying breed). It also is a looker.

Pugs are not received well by the majority. The 407 is a dem good looker. Have not driven one. Bro tested it. If you do buy one, just join the pug club. You will be able to get some advice on how to maintain the car and what to look out for.

both the carens and the carnival are good mpvs but to be honest, their just to dem ugly... dalady has been trying to 'persuade' me to consider the carnival (ria)...

if the sorento is rebadged, and costs less than rm 100K, i'd be the very first in line to get it...

The rear passenger floorplane is too high i think;dunno bout the rest but my kneecap would end up on a higher level than my bellybutton  Definitely a driver's car like the beemer 3s, rear passenger with long legs would NOT be comfy. :(

be patient la.... give them a few more months, sure will re-badge wan. but don't forget the diesel roadtax is double and also that car is quite a guzzler, as it's like a tank! ...

was going to keep quiet, but can't help myself... what in the world is PROTON up to? increase the price of perdana and trying to con people by saying it's due to the increase in tariff? didn't the govt said that there is a 6-mth grace period ? let's boycott proton!

have to disagree on the guzzler bit, had it for a couple of weeks and i thot something was wrong with the fuel gauge coz it refused to go down at the rate of my regular petrol car! a fuel miser, is more like it. The diesel smell is also not something that i could accustom to.

to be honest, i'm disappointed with them... so many years of slumber and waste...

no strategy, just struggling in the dark - consider the models that they produced... what's the coffin called, juara? it is a killer - literally - i think it's looks can really kill...

sorry, i meant compared to other diesel cars. agree that all diesels consume less than petrol. due to the subsidised price of diesels, it makes a lot of sense to own one. however, worry is if the govt removes the subsidy...

i've test driven the sorento. real quiet inside. decent performance but from the outside sounds like an old taxi! :D but i would get one if they re-badge.

buff,

ur thots on 407......

typed a long reply but dunno wat happened?

anyway, my 2 cents:

car is nice and comfy but:

1) depreciation is high - prob 50% after 3 years?
2) maintenance is high - should be ok during the 3-yr warranty period, but after that...
3) back is small - shld be ok if u don't intend to ferry adults around... u prob don't want to anyway!
4) 2litre engine is underpowered (for me, anyway).... 2.5l would be best but then may cost another 20-30k extra
5) make sure there's a service centre near ur place - i learned the hard way when my car was stranded in s'wan...

overall, buy if looks is the most important factor but if u r a cina-man, then u shld consider the 2.4l brand new cbu camry selling at rm140k at naza... good value for money...

in case u r wondering, i don't work for naza...

Yah, I am aware on the resale and maintenance issue but i really love the look. U R rite on the underpower part, only 137hp, even altis 1.8l has 138hp :( . The 3l V6 version sholud be pretty pack with power...

Btw, why is Naza only sellin the 2.4l Camry for 140k? what is the catch?

not sure abt specs... but definitely worth checking out... after all, naza has a way to 'minimise' duties payable - could also account for the low price...

Extended version of Kia Carens. 2.0 liter with sun-roof and 7 seaters going at merely RM80,000.00

Naza is expecting them to sell like hot cakes.

my course-mate just booked one - rm 79+ k. even better than the kia carens since the rebranded one (citra) is 2 litres, has a sun roof and comes with leather seats. those guys who bought it as a carens must be screaming!!!

i'm sure this will hurt kia is malaysia - after the carnival and the carens, no one will want to buy a kia for fear that it's be rebranded as a naza and they's lose money. kia should just come clean with it's customers with complete information.

Kia where got choice? Who is the owner or Naza and who is the minister or international trade and industry? How are they linked? Do you homework than you know why lah. Even the recent boardroom tussle for the purchase of Hicom Shares, 1 party offer higher price but almost didnt win, the other who offered a lower price, somemore want to kwai lan. And who is that person who offered a lower price and so confident of winning? The same person who own Naza lah.

If that fella says he wants to reproduce Proton Waja under the Naza name and sell it cheaper, I think is also possible.

I dont know everything lah. I only read and translate what I read in the papers only. It was everywhere. Business column, the headlines...etc Until our PM has to campur tangan and says when the cabinet decides, than only it is final. Of course, the cabinet will decide which is the best option for all. Even than also can screw up. Remember not too long ago, MAS bought back shares from the previous share holder at a higher value than is was?

Anyway, back to NAZA. I went there 2+ years ago to consider buying my car from them. CBU unit with a whole lot of addtional goodies that came with the car is sightly more expensive than the CKD unit available thru' the authorised channels.I think only RM10K more. When I ask the salesman how come can sell so cheap? they say they declare the car as 1 year reconditioned car so the tax is lower. And during that time, there were lots of reports in the papers that such dealers who cheated in their declaration of tax were caught and the cars where confiscated from the innocent owners. When I ask them I scared to buy if that is the case, you know what the salesman answer me? "lu tahu ini Naza siapa punya? Hanya di Naza, kita boleh gaurantee tarak apa boleh jadi. Siapa tangkap orang? Govermen lah, siapa Govermen? Naza punya saudara lah!"
