- purse with debit/credit card and cash
- camera
- mobile phone
- notebook and pen (for taking necessary details on delayed baggage etc)
- mini phrase book (particularly if it's somewhere i don't know the language of)

clothes and toilettries and whats not can be bought... so they'll be the least of my worry to be honest...

actually i wasn't clear before
the idea was to see how diverse each one's preferences would be in their choice of personal items (ie something that you carry around a lot which is special to you eg pocket sketch book, anti-histamine pills if you have hay-fever, etc.)

it is an easy answer to just say platinum card for no 2 of course
well, if you can't include that in the list (doesn't mean you have no access to cash), what five items would you carry on you which you can't do without and perhaps can't buy in a foreign city.
similarly, it is a cop out to say mobile phone for no 1 bcos if you can call for help then you won't be stuck out there for two whole weeks starving to death and treating water and lighting fires... so assume no satelite coverage

well, my family does like to know that i'm contactable when i'm away, hence the mobile phone...
plus if the luggage are to be delivered after the delay, the airlines need to be able to contact me...
so i was just thinking in relatively practical terms...
credit card is just something so handy that everyone should carry one while travelling...
plus buying with credit card confers some insurance backup, compared to debit card purchases...

When I go into the orang asli kampung, I usually have the basic stuff with me but not 5 items nia. I will have an army bag and a backpack. A lot of bulky items in the army bag like gas stove, mess tin, food, etc but in the backpack I'll have some essential items as well. So if I suddenly find myself stuck with only my small backpack I'll still have lets see... knife, water, some food, flashlight, small folding knife, lighter, bandage, plasters, panadol, charcoal pill, anti-histamine, spare batteries, salt and some tissue. I'll have my multitool on my belt, and mobile phone in my pocket as well.
