There are so many child development methods in the market namely Shichida method, Kumon, Montessori...I am planning to send my child to Shichida class this year to try out. Anyone's child attending Schicida classes?

This thread is dedicated to all parents who wants the best for their child and for those who knows or read about any tools/methods that claims to maximize a child's potential.
I'll start...
Have heard from my collegues about Shichida Method. Apparently a very established method in Japan to maximize your child's potential. You can see the advert in the papers every now and then and it costs a bomb to most middle income people - 1hr = rm100 and it's 4 times a month = RM400. And one parent has to sit in with the child during the class and you need to spend at least 15 minutes a day to do some exercises recommended with the kids.
According to my colleague, they also teach you how to stimulate your child's ESP. Apparently, we were all born with it but lost it coz we dun develop or use it. Also teach the kid to read minds or something like that. She tried out the exercise and true enuf, the 1 1/2 yr old child can guess what is in a closed box without looking...kinda creepy.
Overall, I was told it is a balanced development plan, emphasizing on parent-child bond/love, right and left brain development. Some of the results include superb memory (photographic memory, to be exact), superfast calculation, motor skills, etc...but you've start your child young -between 0-6 years old.
It is also very good for kids with learning disabilities...including down syndrome. Those who know more, please feel free to share.
Please do share other tips as well...from pre-pregnancy, during pregnancy and early childhood.

Aiseh...since you have started this new thread, can delete off my Child development thread liao.
On Shichida method, I don't want my child to learn this ESP thing, kind of spooky....other things it's ok.

Genius or not doesn't mater to me as long as the child is given a chance to expose to knowledge and learning skills.

i think a common 'misconception' is that to push your children to perform THE BEST instead of HIS/HIS BEST. Each of us born with different level of intelligence. So if keep pushing, our kids might just end up like the kiddos over the causeway!!

Athena, disagree with you.
Kids learn fast. Don't underestimate them.
My daughter 1st took part in the sunday school bible verse competition when she is 4 y/o. They were given each 4 verses to memorized. By the 5th days, she master all the 4 verses. And what surprises me is the 3 y/o took the 1st and 2nd place and my daughter was 3rd. And I can tell you, that 2 kids was dem good.
If you don't let them try you will never know where is their ability or limit. Let them explore all. I do not have the privillage during my childhood and would sure want them to have it. I will not force them if one day they decided to quit any of them. At least I know I have done my part as a parent and had provided them the best. Is time for them to pursue what is the best.

If we don't push them, they won't move their butt. Kids nowadays are dem lazy. They are glued to channel 60 to 63. As i said, let them explored everything. They might not had the talent to be Ainstein but maybe they are mozart  no?

Hmm...as for me I will teach my kid to do YOUR BEST (other people's best). That way he will neither be the best nor the worst. And if he has done the BEST's best, then that's the BEST liao lor. :)

as parents, i think it's a role where you encourage your child to reach their potentials... not by making them do too much where unnecessary...
to illustrate a very kiasu parent whom i know... she punished her kid for getting less mark in exams than the previous exams, even if it's over 90%...! really scary this kind of domanitrix type of mummy... her daughter 8 years old already attending mental arith classes, music lessons, swimming lessons, tuition classes (!!!!)...
i can understand, she probably means well and want her kid to be an all rounder... plus giving her kid the kind of things she may have wanted to do herself as a child but hasn't got the chance to... but ended up poor daughter is scared of mummy and became really shy.. ciak lak if you ask me...

It's true that some parents are a little extreme...too kiasu...I guess you know you are going overboard if the child loses interest in the things he used to like and was good at or you find yourself saying negative things or scolding to try to push him to learn...such as " you are not so clever lah"...
To sustain interest, children need parents to be enthusiastic and encouraging...occasional praise will help motivate too...just don't over-praise until the kid becomes arrogant...

A few of my colleagues did...progress was quite impressive when I had a chat with her...especially in the memory department. For example, the child can differentiate a flash card that has 40 red dots from one that has 42 red dots. They are also very observant when it comes to identifying differences in the pictures that are almost similar, sequence of events, etc. That was at age 1+, no less...They also have a more extensive vocabs due to the many flash cards.
Having tried the flash card method myself (although I tried it rather late - after my son can actually read some words), I have to say it is very effective if you are teaching your kid to read or read more new words. It is true that we recognize words by their shapes rather than the actual spelling. You'll know what I mean if you see a small word very far away..although it is not clear, you can guess the word by it's shape and length.
The ESP part also true woh...though I find it a little creepy.
I'll check with them the latest developments and let you guys know...

So far, we have tried flash cards on our child of 14 months old. She likes flash cards very much, trying to speak though she can't speak yet. It's interesting to know that when we ask her where certain thing is, she recognise by looking at the thing.
We attended Shichida talk jus to know more about it last year. Yea, very expensive and at least a parent must attend class with the child, not easy..We intend to let the child try out first and see how. Got to wait for the suitable time slot next semester.
