In addition, just renovated my house 2 years ago...so, I do have some "practical experience".....haha
One important feature of the hse...plaster ceiling...cheap but will enhance the look of your hse, but don overdo on the design....

yeap...very true and nowadays there are a lot of choices and reasonably priced as well....just don go for imported ones...
Yellow light does make the hse more "attractive" but they are not so practical as compared to white light....plus they can be warm as well...
Down lights are nice but they tend to be inadequate lighting....

Have plaster ceiling...esp in livin n dinin area....try to steal some ideas from the ID mags...nothin too elaborate
House alarm.....good to hv it, more from when you are indoors esp at nite....good system will cost u RM2k to 3k

may i suggest that for the iron grill pattern, do it with only the horizontal bars. use a bigger section instead. and later paint it white. trust me, it looks good. i made mine with both horizontal and vertical and painted it brown. looks like a cage.

Nowadays, ppl no longer go for metal fences as it is more difficult to upkeep. As for wooden fences, I don particularly fancy them because I feel that they are a little "over bearing". I prefer those brick fences with some moderate design. Also, with brick fences, u can do some form of pebble wash...pretty nice...

The other day, my neighbour asked if he can paint the metal from black to copper (the 1/3 of the fence).... I'm not exactly keen but then again they said we can always change it if we dun like...so we said ok to go ahead. Anyway, they seemed niec family type..but I think boss gonna have probelm with their 2 dogs...a bit noisy.

I've planted those. Got plenty of experience. I did most things DIY around my house so learn a lot tho. But certain things need to use IQ. Like the paint effect on the wall and stuff.
For example the borders in my kids room. 3 ft from the bottom i actually make the paint effect. So really save on wallpapers.

Taiwanese is 1st grade, japanese is 2nd grade carpet grass. True that they will grow out flat but it still need trimming. And do walk a lot on the grass. Don't worry it won't kill the grass. They will grow flatter.
i got philippine carpet grass. must be 3rd grade cause growing upwards only.

lalang ok what. very the malaysian. kekeke.
one of my friends actually used artificial grass (e.g. used in indoor soccer field). don't have to cut and water but imagine taking your vacuum cleaner outside the house and sucking dirt from the grass. from far, your neighbours will think you are nuts.

..wat about flowers or maybe u can try planting herbs.. can use it for cooking... :)
Never like flowers. They never last and you will need to throw them away. Herbs is a good idea. I do plant a lot of bonsai. But they need a lot of trimming.

Sorry this one I cannot help you. Use up too much energy and it's more for men. Can only give you direction. Get Boss to do it for you. For new housing, the garden will be filled with lots of stones, nails, etc on it. Clean up the rubbish and you need to cangkul at least (where is my ruler) 1 inch deep.(wah, I cangkul till i got back ache) As you go, you will find more rubbish :D . Topped them up with the sand (pasir), (hint: if you don't want to buy curi from those houses that is under renovation...sheesh..). Ok, your plot of land is ready to plant the grass.

Planting grass need maintainence. After you plant them, at least once a month, you need to squat on your garden and pluck all those small lalang. My neighbour thought I'm looking for gold. Don't wait for them to grow tall. By that time they already bear seeds and start spreading. Pluck them out just as when they grow and remember to removed the whole roots. Don't just pluck the upper leaves and leave the roots underground. That way, they will grow again. You need to repeat those for at least a year.

Dalady, you can look grass called "chan chu chou" in cantonese. The leaves are broad and they do not grow tall. You ask for quotes from nurseries. I think this type of grass is cheaper and easier to grow and not much of maintenance. Mind you don't buy the golf course grass. You will regret it.
As for furnitures, there are so many China products to choose from. They cheap and classy. I know a lot of you would think China products do not last long but if you are lucky enough you may get good stuff.

since I am sending kakak back home next month, I hv decided to redo my upstairs floor as the parquet is slowly but surely coming off due to exercise water from the sub standard mopping done by kakak...
My fren jus got her 2,000 square feet condo done by Pergo guys and therefore she managed to get a good deal from it....RM7.90 per square feet as compared to RM11.90 retail price. So, I hv decided to tag along....so currently waiting for the final quote....
