between then and now, i wonder what changes had taken place...
have you switch to facebook or are you still on friendster..?
are you a blogger, or are you microblogging using twitter..?

i guess the questions i have are:
how do you communicate with others on cyberspace..?
what are the ingredients in your online networking cocktail..?

Hmm... from the result so far.. friendster's dead?
the reason i included friendster, facebook and myspace was they came up top in our last poll...
but then again, a year is certainly a long time in social networking lifetime...
seems like most people have shifted usage from friendster to facebook...
myspace is rather dead now (save from musicians who still use them i guess)...
it's probably not wrong to say that facebook kills friendster and myspace for most people... :cool:

i have a question for those that use linkedin...
how useful is that as a tool for business networking..?

another question, more for facebook users i guess...
a recent article in economist (http://www.economist.com/science/displaystory.cfm?story_id=13176775) indicates that a stable network contains about 120 people (more for women)...
and generally only "wall" an average of 4 (men) to 6 (women) friends regularly...
so do you conform to this trend or are you off the kilter..?

although i do wish they put absolutely everything linearly...
they may claim to do so right now but it's not quite so...
events like adding new friends or joining new group...

applications that "spam" my news feed, rather annoying really...
ie i have friends using the application and when he/she does, it get posted on my feed...
this used not to happen with the previous fb versions...

i enjoy it when i receive feed on photos/notes/links posted...
because those usually means something that's of interest to the person posting and their friends...
but using an application when someone is bored/having fun, such as taking a quiz...
i don't need all those to come up on my feed, since i don't stalk my friends' every single little move!

right now the only ways to do it is either to turn off feed from those friends (but it'll turn off ALL feed from them)...
or to ask the friends to change their application setting NOT to publish the game/fun application feeds...

I know....but my problem is this person thinks he/she is sexy and post new pictures almost everyday......its like Mick Jagger is your friend on Facebook and everyday he posts revealing pics of himself on facebook with all the sexy remarks to go with it.

every now and then if you get curioous of what he/she is up to...
you can then go to his/her page and check it out...

you used to be able to control how much or how little news you want from particular person...

there's a new internet tool called facebook connect...
which enables linking of facebook to other sites on the internet etc...
i haven't time to check out properly what it does and what it entails...
but i've disabled the permission to allow facebook connect to retrieve my info anyway...
i don't like the idea of the possibility of a friend using facebook connect...
and potentially could "carry" my information elsewhere on the cyberspace...
still, as i said, i don't know if this is possible, i'm just trying to play it safe...
until i have more time to look into the application and check what it does...

that's because you need to follow them before you'll start getting them...
you don't automatically get updates from people who follow you...

can you imagine, people that have thousands of followers...
if these people get automatic update of all the followers...
they'll never see the end of the constant updates! ;)

so you can now look at other sites of which some has twitter updates...
e.g. i follow rachel maddow show, as well as a few food bloggers...
but they don't follow my tweets and i don't expect them to follow them either...
most people who reciprocate on the follow tend to be people that i know...
you build on the follow list with time, and you can always invite friends to join twitter too :D

first of all, install a twitter API, such as twitterfox for firefox users...
from there it's going to be much simpler and fun to use in my opinion...
and a lot of things will be quite self-evident from API like that...
(another popular and powerful API is tweetdeck but i prefer twitterfox)

twitter is like fb status update, but only with the updates without anything else...
no pokes (as dino pointed out), no albums to upload, no videos to upload...
defnitely no news feed on what quiz your friends took and the likes of it...

you can still always link photos and videos and other sites as part of the tweet...
use sites like is.gd (there's a firefox plugin you can get) or tinyurl so you won't use up all 140 characters for a link...

if you want someone to know you're directing tweet to him/her, use @username ...
if you want to send private message though, then use D, follow by the username...
the D function only works when you're following a person and that person follows you in return...
one-way follow does not allow direct private messaging service...
(otherwise everyone would be able to privately write to ashton kutcher) :p

RT means re-tweet and it's basically like forwarding a message...
usually used when someone posted some interesting link, so you RT that tweet so your followers get them too...
for more info on RT, check out this link (http://www.ruhanirabin.com/the-art-of-re-tweeting-in-twitter/) :)
if you use twitterfox, right click on the tweet of interest and the option to RT is there...

if you see # followed by some term, it's just a tagging system for keywords...
so that when a search term is done, this will quickly retrieve relevant tweets...
it's also a way for twitter to track what is the most popular topics of the day...

this is as far as my twitter knowledge go so far...
