Unlike adult cancer, children do not cover their lungs with soot, or shoot their livers with alcohol and yet children get cancer. This is just one of the many unjustices that life has to offer, that we're all a prisoner of birth and it depends on what kind of lottery you strike in life.

which makes it really sad when we see children afflicted with disease and sufferings. i'm not sure besides dr alf whether you've seen babies having many different tubes injected into their bodies. if you have the coiurage, walk through the paeds icu unit or the neonatal units of any hospital, and i believe you'll leave with a broken heart. How could these innocents be afflicted with such diseases.

I've joined hair for hope 2008 initially as more of a macho thing to do, pretend to act heroic but i'm far greatly humbled at seeing what the children will have to go through, that some of them will not make it. I'm humbled at their courage, at fighting the disease and at the same time fighting the social stigma and malady where other children will label them as freaks or taunt them and give them names. These challenges will be far more than we will ever encounter and they're all on the shoulders of these children.

I'm doing this as a sign of humility and to acknowledge the bravery of the children. to tell them that they're not alone. However, if you feel compelled to, donations are being raised at the same time. I'm happy to announce here that my brother , Kenneth (Kwimango) has agreed to match any donations done by the 2nd of July in my name. The actual donation drive only ends on Aug 30th. at least 86% of the money will go towards the beneficiary in areas such as parental counselling, therapeutic play for the cancer patients as well as bereavement and financial assistance. For those wanting to donate, credit cards are accepted for online donations, while those in Sg who furnish their details will get automatic tax exemption. Singapore totalisator board has agreed to cover all commision charges for credit card transaction (normallyt about 3%).

one other thing i've learnt about children with cancer, is that their cancer progresses more rapidly compared to adults. this is due to the fact that the cancer grows together as the body is growing as well..
