yeah, i bought something for dalady - but a little embarassing lah...
i went to a jewellery shop - bought the cheapest earrings i could find - the dem lady told me saphire on while gold - since so cheap i didn't bother reading the slip that came with it. gave to to dalady who obviously read the slip and told me that it's just a crystal - somemore only gold-plated... :(
but i'm sure she loves me all the more for the boo boo... :D
fetid humour? i s'pose that is true :D
i did almost come online and check the forum while i was in florida though - but too happy to be in warm weather to find the hotel business center though. thought about you guys!

i had a dreadful holiday.
had a deadline on the 26th and therefore my christmas plans to return to home town went poof!
then for new years, had plans to attend a friends bbq, and he cancelled at the last minute, so i ushered in the new year all by myself, reading deception point by dan brown (quite good too :D), all alone cause my gf had gone back to penang for a friends wedding, and my last minute attempts to rendesvous with her there went poof as no transport there. thus new year also poof... some more so long no see you start missing you and all that made everything so much worse...
but you;re back :D

sheeesh, sounds like you're working too hard but 26th deadline is just horrible. my xmas was nice - sat on a beach, got a nice tan (can hear my mother screaming "hitam dah anakku!!!"), read Angels and Demons, The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. missed a big blizzard up in the midwest and northeast (HAHAHAHAA) but then got back to ohio and had to go up to indiana for a few days. vin's dad is in the hospital and prognosis v bad. so that was quite depressing la. going back to indiana this weekend to spend more time with vin's dad in the hospital... quite sad ending to the cool holiday weeks...
but i'm back! :D i understand - that's me at 1 PM my time 2AM your time and no one is up. i'm like SOMEBODY WRITE SOMETHING!!!!! ;)
ray, when's your gf coming back, or back oredi?
ok la ray - i must go to bed. 1 AM oredi. must be at work by 8:30 - this might be ugly... wish me luck gang!

typical guy response... sigh... (sila shakes her head...)
beauty should be appreciated whether in a guy or a gal, no? personally, tom welling, the guy who plays clark kent on smallville floats my boat pretty nicely ;) - and russell crowe will do too
do you think either of them are aesthetically pleasing?

welling's too much of a pretty boy for my liking. my taste in guys goes more towards character - billy crystal, rod stewart, david letterman.

i like big men. maybe a young letterman but billy crystal and rod stewart are not really my cup of tea. brad pitt is pretty, but for me i need him to be about 6 inches taller maybe ;)

lilian - you can ask ray and euj and dream - i am sadly taller than the average malaysian girl by a good few inches (smarter than the average bear?? lives in jellystone park??). and after i dated a malaysian (after SPM) and he made such a stink about me being so tall (don't wear heels lah, don't wear that dress, the design makes you look taller lah) - i'm comfortable with who i am and i'm tired of making excuses about being myself. i'm 177 cm tall without shoes on... so now i like the big and tall (vin is 6' 7"! no joke!)

sila, i can only mimpi about being tall.... imagine the pain living here where everyone is taller... nightmare when go for parades or open air shows etc... apa pun tak boleh nampak! but so far lucky, no ex-bfs telling me what not to wear... (they knews me well enough that if they told me not to do something, that's probably what i will do - within reason of course)...
buying clothes also nightmare... jeans are always inevitably too long, clothes sizes impossible to find and when i do find them, it comes with premium prices...!!!

waaah until i came to the US i thought "I hate shopping" because i could never buy anything in malaysia. jeans had to be tailor made for me by the time i was 15-16. can you imagine? shoes?? jangan cakap la i wore branded men's tennis shoes to school by form 3. teachers cannot bising because i say honestly - if they can find a pair of white canvas shoes made by bata or whoever in my size, i will WEAR it. i promise...
now i can go buy stuff that i can wear!! although i STILL even here have to buy extra long pants/trousers/skirts otherwise still too short. can't wear capri pants - bad memories of wearing my pants until too short, cut make into capris, then cut some more and make into shorts so my poor parents don't go bankrupt to keep me dressed...

i hardly go shopping here - a good thing, save some money... unless there's sales and only some shops like topshop or miss selfridge will have my size as they do petite size... even petite sometimes is terrible - size 6 (i.e. for people weighing about 6 stones) also too big, especially the top, and i won't have a hope of wearing that unless i get implants!! but luckily, not too often, so there's some hope afterall...
otherwise, when i'm away in france or italy, that's when i do some shopping... italian girls are so slim (apparently they don't eat much! all the good food and lack appreciation)... so it's great to get my sizes for a change...
another trick up my sleeve when clothes size too big - i chuck them into tumble dryer and work it away in the heat to shrink them - work like a charm... :D
that's how it is, lilian. i always wanted to be normal sized - hated going to family gatherings or whatever - always they say "adoiii, besaqnya anak hang, hasni!!! camna nak kawin ni? tak dak laki tinggi lain dari abang diaaaa" (that's my mum's family - from taiping and all points north). and you say you mimpi nak tinggi. :)
i always wanted curly hair - and my hair is straighter than a ruler. can't even hold a curl. my mum's hair is lovely and wavy and i always wanted that.
but i am ok with stuff now, straight hair is lower maintenance. and height has its advantages - can reach for stuff on the top shelves and stuff. :)

yeah, there's always something not quite perfect, but i have to say i'm happy being me...
curly hair - not easy to maintain... my hair got some kink in them so maintenance is nightmare... just recently cut them off to spike them up! hehe... just for fun... now the growing period, susah susah.... and the last time i tried to straighten my hair - the thong burnt me!!

i've definitely come to the realization that if i had been given curly hair, i really wouldn't know what to do with it.. :) no talent in the hair ideas department. now i just let it be long lah - shampoo and condition, and let air dry. end of story. no need to worry. i had short hair for a while - and short hair is so infectious - you keep wanting to go shorter and shorter and shorter. i almost shaved my head (but could hear my mother disowning me if i went that far) so i got a buzz cut in '98 (like when people join the military). teeeerrrible laaah. spiky straight up hair, can see my scalp clearly. luckily, fast growing hair and by 2-3 months after the disastrous buzz cut it was modified into a short boy cut sort of thing.

same here. in high school, i really only knew several people that i hung out with and most of the time was too busy with football and squash...it's great getting to know more people better now... :)
not to mention now we're not in the teenage hormonal years :) not trying to impress anyone or be afraid of teachers or anything!! :D
it's interesting to also see the juniors and how far they've come, and see the big brothers and big sisters that we were in awe of when we were younger..

umm yikes, yoiks and WHATTTT?? dude, i think the "doable" thing needs to be toned down. mei and i always say we were 1 person and you were our best friend and hormones did not get in the way of friendship lah... cannot like that lah - you're like a brother to me, man!!!
agreed. ok, will use a different term - you guys have always been attractive in my view...it's the whole package - personality, fun-factor, intellectual strimulation....
hey that's why we hung out - i think personality wise we all gelled, and complemented each other. :) read the same books, talked the same language. aaah those were such good times man. i really think of the time we hung out together very very fondly. remember when we rode our bikes to lumut because the day that our SRP results were to be announced, tengku abdul rahman went and died?? :D

do you guys know what a Cryptoquote is? that's where there is a Quote attributed to someone that has been encrypted so you sit down and try to figure out the encrypted phrase. sometimes you get a key (i.e., X = A) but in the local paper than vin gets it doesn't give you a key so you have to figure it out from scratch. this is vin's favorite thing to do int he mornings with his coffee. anyway the one he solved yesterday was this:
THE BODY PAYS FOR A SLIP OF THE FOOT AND GOLD PAYS FOR A SLIP OF THE TONGUE - MALAYSIAN PROVERB.
malaysian proverb?? really?? anyone dengar this proverb before aah?

could be mistakenly attributed to malaysians.. it's not like we're the largest country in the world. the few people here that i've spoken to who actually knew where malaysia was were the people who had actually traveled around south east asia. all the others don't even know the first thing about it. one time someone asked me "Where is Malaysia? well, i don't know how they knew, but hey, there you go... most likely from that movie (and i agree, it's soooooooo stupid)... but now, yes, definitely know where it is... if still not, i betcha they live someplace with no tv nor newspaper... in fact, they're living in their own small teeny weeny little world....

that's true too. i know i've been to the public offices, like the doctor's where i am the only non-white person in the room and in rural southwest ohio it can be a very lily white community... they look at me funny. but from the way they are dressed i can tell you they are from the trailer park white trash community and they are looking at me funny? i'm pretty sure they wouldn't know any other country (heck, maybe even any other state in the US). :D
but of course, that is circumstance. the poor are poor and under educated whether they live in the US or Malaysia or Africa or wherever i guess. have to thank my lucky stars that god/fate had education in the books for me.

well, i can't even say if it's a good thing or not... ireland is becoming like a big chinatown all over... there are lots of people coming in from chinese on student visa but actually setting up (illegal) businesses and to work... so the friendly irish are becoming somewhat less tolerant than they used to be... luckily since i've been here for years, i speak differently from the mainland chinese, so less problem i guess.... and i'm also very lucky to live in relatively cosmopolitan social group (many of my friends are foreign exchange students or postgrads/postdocs from abroad).... so really learned a lot there...

i think you mentioned a key point - "learned a lot". you can experience the world but if you don't learn from your experiences it will be for naught. i had a few malaysian friends in college (and i'm still friendly with them) but for the most part i tried to fit in to the normal student life, ate with my non-malaysian roommates and only went to malaysian student gatherings for things like raya and CNY and stuff. (well, for the free makan, i will show up ;) ) but if you surround yourself with everything the same as you would have had it in malaysia and not tried anything new or different, then really might as well stay in malaysia or whatever your home country was, no?

lilian - you can ask ray and euj and dream - i am sadly taller than the average malaysian girl by a good few inches (smarter than the average bear?? lives in jellystone park??). and after i dated a malaysian (after SPM) and he made such a stink about me being so tall (don't wear heels lah, don't wear that dress, the design makes you look taller lah) - i'm comfortable with who i am and i'm tired of making excuses about being myself. i'm 177 cm tall without shoes on... so now i like the big and tall (vin is 6' 7"! no joke!)

that's right... there are so many students who tend to stay within groups of other students with same nationality... i know familiarity is comforting, but that beats the purpose of learning abroad.. it's not just all about academic, you're learning for life too... for the real world, and get insight into new way of thinking and doing stuffs...

well, my gramps know that i cook, so that's not too bad but seeing that i'm not home all that often, pampering is inevitable... they cook all my favourite dishes, feed me about a gazillion times a day (which i don't mind for a bit!) and when all these done, they repeat the process... of course i bring them out to eat also.... :)

house still smelled of it this morning at least!! :D i like the kerisek. it's what makes the rendang special. but lucky i had some kerisek frozen leftover from raya puasa. that time i went and made kerisek by hand, including hand grating the coconut!! wahliaooo that was tough...
why the kitchen not at your disposal?

forgot to answer this question. i don't usually have a kitchen at my disposal because i travel about 45 weeks out of the year outstation for work. i work at the client site and wherever the client is is where i am. there i usually stay at a hotel. so at the hotel, no kitchen, must tapau or eat out la. not as much fun. i love playing in the kitchen!!

coke is just absolutely terrible for you lah. i'm sure coffee is healthier than coke. but it is my one vice - i don't smoke, don't drink alcohol, don't like coffee, don't like to shop for hours. i have to have something that's bad for me, right?? and i like coke. i like the taste. i don't like diet coke and i hate pepsi. just coca cola, chilled, no ice. that's the way i like it.

Coke topped with a scope of vanilla ice-cream and you just stir/beat till the ice-cream melt and turn creamy. HEAVEN too!

you get used to diet coke after a while and then coke tastes to sweet and strong. tough choice - do i die through diabetes or some sort of cancer?

i agree boss - well i'm getting married this may. so that part is coming along ok. i agree to take 2 years lebih kurang to enjoy my marriage. after that will think of the anak. it's a big responsibility lah - in many ways i think if i kawin and have children directly after start kerja, i won't be thinking so much. but now i've been working so long and every month you see your paycheck disappear into normal things.. itupun belum got kids. so a bit scared lah. then want to make sure that other than giving the kids the necessities, have to be there for them. like siew jang says, as the mommy the kids will want to ask questions and all that. my mum was always there when i had a question, and i want to be able to be the same way to my (future) kids. so now that i'm older and more aware of what it means to be a parent, it makes it more scary lah :) but i do want kids though. just need a bit more time to prepare mentally and hopefully financially :D

interesting. care to explain in english?
ops, sorry, got carried away... now, how can i explain....
our brain has a reward centre, and it is stimulated by a type of neurotransmitter called glutamate... glutamate is a type of excitatory neurotransmitter... many drugs that produce the high feeling causes prolonged glutamate release from the neurons... and this is also why addiction occurs, since the brain reinforces this feel-good feeling...
as for cannabinoids, i'm sure everyone have heard of cannabis... well, cannabis contains cannabinoids but human (and animals) also produce natural cannabinoids in their bodies... this is really meant for controlling the sensory of pain... e.g. if you're in injured in critical situations, endogenous cannabinoids dampened down the pain once you passed a threshold, therefore allowing you to concentrate on other task for survial... cannabinoids are also used in medical field in treatment of chronic pains etc but unfortunately, it's being exploited in terms of drug addiction...
i hope this explanation would clear things up a little.. if still not sure, let me know...
