View Full Version : Finally, some accountability and fear of God!
Actually I never knew all the 'privilege' given to the Exco!! Good that it's out in the open now. Indirect benefit of having a strong opposition. I'm sure BN doesn't want to lose Negeri as well!!
NEGRI MB CUTS COSTS:
No RM1,500 allowance for Assemblymen;
State Excos to use existing cars
SEREMBAN, WED:
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan today introduced several measures to help the state reduce expenditure and meet the needs of the underprivileged in Negri Sembilan.
With immediate effect, he abolished the RM1,500 monthly allowance given to all State Assemblymen to set up and maintain offices in their respective constituencies.
"This is a privilege given to all State Assemblymen which I feel is no longer necessary. Just imagine how much we can save ... this money could be disbursed to the underprivileged.
"In fact, I increased the allowance in 2004 when I became Menteri Besar, from RM700 previously. Now, I see no need for this anymore. Some assemblymen don't even open an office and the money simply goes into their pocket," he said.
All newly appointed State Executive Councillors would not be getting new Proton Perdana. Instead they would continue using the existing cars.
"The usual practice is to offer the cars which were used by the past Exco members for sale to them at a nominal price. But this time, we are not going to do that. The new Exco members will continue using these cars.
"After all, most of the cars are aged less than five years old and there is no need to waste money to change them," he said after chairing the State Exco meeting here.
He said these measures were to save money and channel the funds to the underprivileged.

Penang, Perak govts turning up the heat on BN
The state governments of Penang and Perak continued to announce initiatives today which will stump the Barisan Nasional and put it on the defensive.
In Perak, the newly-minted Menteri Besar Mohamed Nizar Jamaludin said that his state government will issue permanent land titles to all new villages in the state.
Some of these villages have waited years for their land titles to be extended but their pleas have often fallen on deaf ears. Under the existing system, land titles for houses in new villages can only be extended from 30 years to 60 years.
In the run-up to the elections, villagers were hoping for the state government to extend the land title to 99 years. If Nizar goes ahead and issues permanent land titles, this will be a bonanza for the villagers, mostly Chinese and Malays. It will also put Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli and his BN colleagues in a bind. For many years, they made promises to the villagers but did not deliver.
In Penang, the state government announced that it will appoint independent auditors to inspect the books of state government departments and town councils, leading with the Seberang Perai Town Council. This move will send shivers down the spine of BN and government officials.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has already said that he will introduce an open tender system and is relooking some controversial land deals. Appointing auditors to go through the financial accounts of government departments could be akin to opening a can of worms.
The Insider has learnt that Perak, Selangor and Kedah may also follow suit an appoint independent auditors to check the financial status of state agencies.

actually i was shocked to find out that PLUS made profit before tax in 2007 of RM1.3 billion on the back of revenue of RM1.8 billion. Can you imagine the margin they are making? Total shareholders funds is only RM5bil. So this is ROE of more than 20%. And they dare ask for increase in toll rates some more

It's so unfortunate to know that there are many out there still do not believe in having checks and balances in our political system and there are still many out there moaning over the lost of the 2/3 majority regardless of the corruption, nepotism and cronyism going on. I can imagine if the BN had maintain the 2/3 majority I wonder whether the MB of Negeri will do what he is doing now.
Charges of corruption have gone on unrebutted and these charges are defamatory and legal actions should have been taken against these people but these charges have gone on unrebutted and no legal actions have been instituted against them.
I am not saying that the change in govt in Penang, Perak and the Selangor will guarantee change but from what we can see now and what they (these state govt) can deliver at this point within the month they took over the govt is declaration of their assets and in Perak, those who have been living on TOL land or who have been squatters will now finally get their land titles. Why cant the previous state govt grant and give out these land titles? What is holding them up? I agree, as someone wrote somewhere, that Penang, Perak and Selangor are "political laboratories" of sorts and the bottom line is if they do not perform they will be booted out come the next GE.
If there are transparencies and integrity in dealing with the people's money especially in regard to giving out contracts and paying out people's money to maintain e.g. public property, then the costs involved will be very much reduced and then eventually to the man in the street at least this will at least maintain our rates do not go up and better still if rates could be reduced. I think it's all worth it to vote for the change.
This is hardly into the 1st month the opposition have taken over the 4 state govt and the silent majority in the 4 states have spoken via their votes. Let these people run the state in the way as the have promised and prove those eloquent and often the mocking minority wrong otherwise 4-5 years down the road if these people do not deliver then these eloquent and mocking minority will have the last laugh and say "hei, you so called silent majority you have been made suckers by DSAI and LKS and you have been taken for a ride all these years". For the moment let's sit tight and watch carefully, someone out there do not believe in democracy and insist on a one party state political system and still want the ruling party to rule on for the next 50 years condoning all the corrupt practices and cronyism, then I can imagine where our country would end up eventually.

it just wouldnt make sense to pamper us rakyat with cheap petrol as a short term solution instead of channeling the funds to strengthen our economy as a long term solution

agreed that the petrol shouldn't be subsidised, in a perfect economy or world, which should reflect demand and supply for the scarce commodity. however, given that we are talking abt our economy which is so imperfect, removing the subsidy will place burden on people who can least afford it. imagine the chain reaction: everything, and i mean everything, will cost more...
i'll be more than happy to pay unsubsidised petrol and diesel prices if i can buy my GT-R at rm250k compared to rm700k or my bmw 5-series at rm150k instead of rm373k. the savings from the car will more than make up for any mileage i can possible cover in the lifetime of the car!!

actualy i'm quite curious..how much of the petrol price is actualy due to the demand supply and how much is actually due to traders..
same thing like food today being traded as soft commodities....so much so that the rich become richer and the poor become poorer...sort of if i can buy all the corns in the world, then i will have a monopoly of corn...this might be skewed economics but i think it's something like that...the prices we see are not real price..not even petrol..

petrols and food nowadays owe their high prices due to the traders alone. supply and demand wouldn't be able to drive up the price so high up in such a short time, because the supporting date, like the sudden increase in car ownership or the sudden increase of flying aircrafts, or the sudden opening of several hundred of fuel burning power plants,...all this points to the traders being solely eresponsible for the increase...heck, they even admited it already.

eer... i have a slightly different take on this. Sure, traders buy and sell and therefore may drive up or down the prices. but at the end of the day, the demand and supply are the real drivers. sure, the traders, as middlemen, will take their cut of profit, but he keeps buying (to drive up the price), and if no one else wants the goods, what is he going to do with them? there must be real suppliers and buyers at both ends...

true...there are the middlemen...but remember one thing, those commodity traders are not the middlemen in the correct sense of the word...i mean, they trade futures of the commodity, basically betting that the price of some commodity will rise or fall. more often than not, the commodities traded has never been produced yet, and exist oni as numbers on some computer screen.
therefore, there is no demand.
another example. look at the fuel price increase. is it because of the fuel demand? or speculation by traders? or an after effect of the weakening us dollar? since the crisis started, fuel demand has not increased substantially. proof of this? are there significantly more cars on that day compared to the day before, driving demand up, drying out the fuel pumps? did OPEC decreases their daily per barrel output? both answer is no. thus the oni conclusion dat can be drawn is, the traders (or speculators) themselves drove up the price. and they do not need to sell the fuel to anyone. they just put it on the market, until some other trader buys it off him, and increases the price yet again...
cxtreme, fuel and rice and grain do have a ready market. but even with all the hogging and stockpilling, prices will not go up so high so fast.
finally... they now know they have to answer for their decisions in the parliament. how arrogant they were before... purposely have the meeting on Wed, so cannot attend parliament!!

BRICKENDONBURIED: Ministry shelves London high performance sports centre project
PUTRAJAYA, THURS:
The Youth and Sports Ministry has shelved the Brickendonbury High Performance Training Centre (HPTC) project in London as a forward base to prepare Malaysian athletes for the 2012 Olympic Games.
“As we are aware, our application to build the Brickedonbury HPTC had been rejected by the East Herts Council Development Control Committee.
“The ministry can appeal against the decision and file a fresh application.
But after studying it from various angles and considering the views of all parties, the ministry has decided to shelve the project. So we will not make an appeal and file a fresh application,” said its minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob at a press conference here today.
He said the decision was made at the ministry’s post-cabinet meeting yesterday and it was endorsed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is also the Cabinet Committee On Sports Development chairman.
The East Herts Council Development Control Committee rejected Malaysia’s application to upgrade the Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre (TARRC) in London in November last year.
