Although this terrible tragedy happened a few days ago, i still watch the news every morning to look for new footage and updates. everytime i will also say a little pray for all the victims and those heroic people who are helping in any way they can.

What a way to end a year but I hope this coming new year will bring new hope to everyone.

Many of us are shocked and saddened by the recent event that has captured headlines all over the world ....but I pray that when the news stop, we will not forget them. Neither should we forget the thousands of children and adults alike all over the world who die of starvation everyday.

May this new year bring a ray of hope and light to all...

Might be true, might not be true. If it is true, then Ok. If it is not true, you are killing the livelyhood of all the nelayans.

Unless some medical body or agency officially anounce it, I will not take heed. Neither will I pass the message around.

I remember seeing in the news, from the Health Minister, he said to be cautious on water-borned diseases. After the incident of the tidal wave in recent times, and people perishing, it is wise to check and do research of the validity of this claim.

I would want to find out more before I actually consume seafood.

Six fall sick after eating fish washed ashore

PENANG: Six members of a family in Teluk Bahang who ate ikan siakap (sea bass) that was washed ashore as a result of the tsunami on Sunday, have suffered food poisoning.

The six, aged between six and 40 years old, came down with diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach ache on Tuesday night.

They had received treatment at the Teluk Bahang health clinic.

It is believed that the head of the family, who was not affected, had found the fish along the shore after the tsunami and decided to take them home as they looked fresh.

A health services spokesman in Balik Pulau confirmed the incident.

Thousands of fish were found on the shores of Balik Pulau and the Straits of Penang after the tsunami. – Bernama

I just read this news @ asia1.com.sg where a tsunami victim.. became a raped victim... are this ppl out of their mind??

Sri Lanka gets reports of child rapes after tsunami

COLOMBO (Sri Lanka) - A teenager who escaped death but was left orphaned and homeless by the Asian tsunami met yet one more agony: gang rape, one of several cases of child abuse being investigated in the disaster zone, an official said.

Mr De Silva gave few details of the case of the gang-raped 17-year-old girl, which occurred in the area of Galle on the southern coast but not in a refugee centre. Hours after being washed ashore and left orphaned and homeless, she was raped by six men, he said.

I particularly dread reading the stories about mothers who lost their children. The worst is a story about a mother who had to let go of an elder child in order to save herself and a younger sibling...she regretted the decision made at the spur of the moment. She will forever be haunted by the cries of her child as he was swept away...

ahsai, this is very normal. if we ask them to donate money, they will refuse and they prefer to donate clothing until the tsunami organisation plea to the public to donate other thing like utensil, food, money and etc... but still ppl donate cloth.

but some ppl claim the cloth are pretty new. u know lah, CNY ... all the previous baju also donate. no wonder the ladies say not enough baju.

Well, sometimes it's not for us to say how people wanna give and how much, or what they intend to give. We only see so much and pass judgment, I wonder, how many of us know the actual state or conditon of those giving? We don't.

For people who gave their best, we commend them on their big hearts. On those who gave because they have too much, well, they still mean well. For those who meant evil, we can only so much pray that they'd learn, and those on the receiving end will not be harmed in anyway.

the genuine people will eventually stop contributing...
however, with the positive attitude, they will continue to help..

Do wild animals have a sixth sense?
Wildlife officials in Sri Lanka have reported that, despite the loss of human life in the Asian disaster, there have been no recorded animal deaths.

Waves from the worst tsunami in memory sent floodwater surging up to 3.5km (two miles) inland to the island's biggest wildlife reserve.

Many tourists drowned but, to the surprise of officials, no dead animals have been found.

It has highlighted claims that animals may possess a sixth sense about danger.

Yala National Park in Sri Lanka is home to elephants, deer, jackals and crocodiles.

Sensitive to change Praised for its conservation, the park is also considered one of the best places in the world to observe leopards.

It is now closed after floods damaged buildings and caused the deaths of tourists and employees of the park and lodge.

Yet, surprisingly, none of the park's varied wildlife is reported to have perished. "They've got extremely good hearing and they will probably have heard this flood coming in the distance.

"There would have been vibration and there may also have been changes in the air pressure which will have alerted animals and made them move to wherever they felt safer."

There are many eyewitness accounts of birds and animals migrating before earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

The scientific evidence for a sixth sense is lacking, but if the reports are confirmed, they could add to the understanding of animal behaviour and possibly even be used in the future as an early warning system for humans.

I have one conclusion abt sixth sense...and I believe everyone has this sense...but some how some where they didn't know how to use it. I call it the COMMON SENSE.
You see, if this tsunami will to be happened in Japan...do you think we have the same death toll?

You think Japan's better prepared than us? Perhaps, but with a quake with 9 on the Richter scale, perhaps Japan might not be able to contain it well.

i don't think anyone can be better prepared or less prepared. But i think the way that the aids that are going to the countries that are affected by the tsunami , that must be handled carefully. I am sure that many, when they are donating, will think " how much of my money is gonna reach the victims?"

I'm not saying that you can prevent the quake. What I am trying to say, you can run away from it. Ask any Japanese...or Hawaiian, if you see the sea suddenly subside...what will they do? Sit and watch or run for their live. That's my point. Nobody can claim they are better prepared against mother nature.
