now, i haven't have a look at the journal itself, but as a scientist in training, this is what i've got to say...
i'd be cautious of what journalists translate out from a journal into layman articles...
they need the article to sell, so it may just be something overhyped on particular small point...
and promptly forget about all the other details within the same article...

worse case is they may do something stupid/fatal.

actually it's the thought that counts - if it doesn't cost you anything in terms of money and/or commitment to give something to your partner, then you are sending the wrong signal or you are in the wrong relationship. but you kinda got to know where to draw the line e.g. it's probably a bad idea to bankrupt youself just to obtain a bit of bling. it's quite a difficult balance, but with the right person, this balance can be easy to find ;)
