(Pix 1-4 out of 20)
It's been a looooooonnngggg time since i started a new thread cuz got nothing interesting to share... but now I do! mwuahahaaaa...
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j106/siagb/1Goingupplane.jpg
My 1st trip to The Land Below The Wind was also my 1st plane ride! We departed from LCCT at 6.45am so it's still dark but that's good cuz I hope to view sunrise from inside the plane.
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j106/siagb/2MeKaninplane.jpg
Me & Kan (hsemate/coursemate), had a gala time on the journey. We admired the view, discussed our plans, gossip about the stewardess, take cat naps... we're very excited to go on a holiday!
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j106/siagb/3Windowbywing.jpg
We sat by the left wing on Air Asia. I really admire the engineering that extract/retract the metal wing. It's a marvel that such a heavy piece of metal can fly so smoothly. Salute to the pilot too!
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j106/siagb/4Leavingpeninsular.jpg
Just u look at the view of the Peninsular coastline. See it? Isn't it nostalgic that I'm finally going over the sea to a new land for new experiences and adventures? Yay!!

Ok, here's a little summary b4 we proceed with the pix. We arrived appx 9am plus and headed straight to Tourism Malaysia info counter to grab lotsa brochures and chat with a cute guy there to ask for directions.
Guess wat? We NEVER booked any accommodation & tour packages b4 we arrived in KK Airport. We only bought the plane tickets cuz it was on promo. Hehe... So, off we went to KK town to check out some traveller's lodges, we chose Trekkers Lodge cuz we're on a budget. We also hunt around for tour agencies, signed up for 2 days' worth of activities and paid on the spot.
The 1st day activity is WHITE WATER RAFTING!!! Both of us have never done it b4 so we're super duper excited to go for it. According to our friendly guide, the trip to the river is challenging as well. If we survive the train ride, we'll survive the rafting.

Beaufort --> Padas River.
Hmm... I was feeling very suspicious until I realised we're taking an ancient train that's been in use since the 1970s! Whoaaa... How funky...

Kan sitting at train 'door' while me standing behind her. It was freaking hot & steamy in there, just look at everyone! Like refugees of war fleeing the country... LOL!!

Choo Choo Train...
It was a VERY rough ride through the jungles. The train made about 20 quick stops and we were surprised by such simple 'train stops' cuz it's just a pondok.

WHOOOOAAAAA!!!
Padas river is rated Level III-IV which is above the tame Level I-II. It was soooo fun and exhilarating fighting 8 rapids, we went wild screaming for our lives yet laughing with such joy at the same time! Can u see me? I'm the front left rower in a yellow helmet and Kan was just behind me in a blue helmet. Me and the guy on my right were assigned as front rowers cuz we look the strongest. ;P Yeah, u bet I rowed like hell till I can't feel my arms! I got the most splashes in my face but I also had the best view. Mwuahaha...
See the 2 guides at the back of the raft? When our raft got hit by a really strong 'wave', everyone fell off except me and the guy who have to 'man the raft' while the guides jump into the rapids repeatedly to rescue each & every one. Although we rode the rapids with other teams, we were the most dramatic with 'man overboard!' every now and then. Hehe...
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j106/siagb/17Whitewaterrafting.jpg
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j106/siagb/18Whitewaterrafting.jpg
I Survived!
Yes! Yes! Yes! I conquered Padas River and emerged victorious! Yeah, I'm abit high on the adrenalin rush. Oh! the guide wore a T-shirt with rapid names like Scooby Doo (don't ask me why) Cobra & Merry Go Round. After attacking a buffet lunch, we were given a cert each to take home. All included in the package. Nice touch.

Outside Train...
On the ride back, it was alot cooler so we sat outside on the open platforms to enjoy the fresh air, lulled by the chug-a-chug-a-chug of the train. We're just another bunch of refugees on the way back to civilization. Hahaha...

Bye Bye, Padas!
The locals waving farewell to us 'refugees' as we enjoy one last view of Padas River from our bumpy train platform.

it's all about seafood & seashells in Sabah! i mean, u eat d seafood & admire seashells. hehe... we had wonderful fresh seafood for all our dinners whr we choose our live 'victims' from aquariums, just like in kl restaurants but with a difference in price dat suits our budget. :)
i'll post pix of our seafood dinners soon along with pix of my seashell souvenirs i splurged on... i didnt plan to go shopping at all but well, it looks so unique i can't resist taking it home... patience ya... *keep elaine in suspense*

Hey Boh, thanks for sharing the pics......looks pretty adventurous....:smile-2:
u're most welcome. i've been dying to go on a holiday after working 2 1/2 yrs straight without one, and i wanted to go back to nature to rejuvenate, but i can't go far cuz tight budget & no visa yet anyway, so me & my fren chose the last developed state in M'sia to visit - Sabah! haha...
wen i was last in cameron highlands, me & family went trekking in Mossy Forest at Gunung Brinchang. It was sooooo cooool... literally & figuratively. It's like stepping into an alien world... moss everywhere, strange creepers, foggy atmosphere, cool breaths, total silence... whooaaaa... nice!
yup, i inherited d adventurous streak. :D

Ok, continue from previous post!
(Pix 1-4 of 12)
On the 2nd day, we went for a mix of activities to cover Hiking + Canopy Walk + Poring Hot Springs + Botanical Gardens. The hiking trail looks mysterious eh? But we took a different path across a beautiful stream on the way to Canopy Walk.
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j106/siagb/2Goingtrekking.jpg
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j106/siagb/6Crossingriver.jpg
It was fun hanging around the canopy platforms & grinning like monkeys, although it's a bit warm cuz we're in a tropical forest after all. If I hear the guide right, we're about 400m above ground so luckily both of us hv no phobia of heights or vertigo probs.

After a sweaty time climbing up & down canopies, we're off to some R&R at the hot springs where the locals believe the natural sulphuric water can cure rhumeatism, influenza & headaches. Hmmm...
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j106/siagb/9Poringvisitorcentre.jpg
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j106/siagb/10Poringsignboard.jpg
We soaked in some private pools instead of jumping into public pools with noisy kids. In each pool, water comes out in 2 pipes, cold & hot to mix yourself. The hot really smells like sulphur while the cold is just ordinary water.

Aaaaahhhhh... a nice long soak washes away most of the aches from yesterday's water rafting & today's hiking trip. So wat's up next? An educational visit to Sabah's botanical gardens where we feasted our eyes on amazing orchids (i've forgotten the names!) and some weird looking mushrooms & bugs.

nope! the guide mentioned it n said thr are 4 islands there as top spot for tourists to go snorkel but if really wan scuba diving shud go sipadan island but dats like on d other side of sabah, need to take another flight thr.

yup, u're rite... 3.2 mp is good enuf for clear pix. i tried to record video - audio is excellent but visual sucks cuz my fren say good video need appx 6.0 to 7.0 mp. i actually record some sabah cultural dance performances but it turned out so blurry i cudnt be bothered to show it to anyone.
anyway, video is just a bonus for me, cybershot is my main reason for getting d hp cuz it takes 'unshakeble' pix cuz i can use it on moving vehicles, capture moving objects (not too fast la) n basically dun hv to worry to keep my hands steady at all times (very tiring wor).

In KK town, there's a place called Sedco Square where we can get fresh affordable seafood straight fm d aquariums. it's an interesting plc cuz there's a stage right smack in d middle of d whole courtyard, surrounded by dinner tables, surrounded by stalls with aquariums or selling other local food.
the stage is for cultural dance performances every nite from 7.30-8.30pm, each nite features about half dozen types of dances, but every nite it's a different set cuz according to d emcee, sabah hv over 800 tribes n each one hv their own special dance so they rotate to showcase most of it.
i only took pix of my fav dances which are very exciting.
Bamboo dance! ooooohhhh they're really good... they asked for volunteers but yours truly is very scared of pain (feet stuck how??)

Warrior dance! look at dat damn macho guy... such cool moves... (snap out of it, boh!)

aaaaahhhhh..... the food! this is wat u've been waiting for, elaine.
we ate steam fish cooked thai style (no pix, all wallop liao), large shellfish in garlic seasoning, extremely luscious oyster omelettes, sabah wild pucuk vege, char quey teow (as side dish... haha), cool coconut drink... all so lip smacking good!
