Hisham,

1. Just go to a domain registrar to register for a domain - the cheapest one is http://www.domainsite.com. However, I use http://www.namecheap.com (USD 8.88 per year). E.g. register for www.mydomainname.com (http://www.mydomainname.com) (if it's not already taken). Then you also get your own email address - e.g. hisham@mydomainname.com

2. Get some hosting. There's a free one that I use http://www.100webspace.com - very good specs but it's sometimes unreliable - i.e. the server goes down and your site becomes unavailable until the server is fixed. I would recommend it for starters.

3. When you're serious, get some paid hosting - most hosting services only charge about 5 usd per month. You can also try voxtreme (you can get through Adrian who's also a forummer) - very good but a bit pricey

I've got a couple of sites running myself :)

Sweet.

Thanks for the information, I'll have to ruminate on this. Pay is via credit card, no doubt?

yes, pay by credit card. if you're looking for free hosting, the only 2 that i think are decent are 100webspace and anyxhost. the others have some conditions - e.g. forced adverts on your site, require you to post in their forums, etc.

just go to google and type in "free web hosting" - you'd have an information overlaod :)

if you don't mind paying a little money, there are a few ok ones - vivehosting, hostrocket, etc. i would however, suggest malaysian companies - go into google and type "web hosting malaysia". the good thing is that they normally provide 1-300 numbers that you can call them for support.

hey, tell you what, if you do go ahead and start creating a website, give me a holla, i may just be able to help you out with some of the scripting :)

Most appreciated. I have had some training online from some friends of mine in the US. My Geocities site, I made from scratch, based on some online tutorials and taking apart other sites' CSS files. I am somewhat familiar with CSS, but am not at all knowledgable about PHP and Javascript.

i know css but all my sites are coded using tables. also, you may not need scripting if your site is static :)

boss,

need to know if you know of any ASP based forum engines out there (for sale or free source). i am looking for one that is customisable (if possible) and basically contains all standard forum functionality.

does Jelsoft have them? or they only do PHP?

i need an ASP based one quite urgently for a client who is on a very tight deadline. their prerequisite is that they want the program in ASP and the DB running on mysql. they doing their own data mining to generate reports.

thanks in advance.

unfortunately, the only ones that i know are php-based... vbulletin (usd 160), phpbb (free open source), ipb (free open source).

try asking in one of the webmaster forums... e.g. sitepoint and webmaster-talk...
