As I will soon be promoted into the above, would like my fellow forumers to share their experiences from the beginning.. like when wife was pregnant, in labour, confinement period etc.. just to get some feedback in how to be a 'good' husband and father..

Hehe, that is me.
Well, I does that when baby was weaned on formula. But i have a understanding hubby. He will be the one who is making the milk.
My advice would be, from the very beggining even during confinement, don't carry your baby on his first cries. Pat him a bit, offer him water. Some baby will settled with that. you just need to try out all ways and get to know him. Never say no.

One thing that you never ask your wife in the labour room, "Is it painful?"

Yup...agree with that. And if she doesn't want any pain killer, so be it and say no more! Don't pressure her to take any just because you feel helpless seeing her in pain.

Never happen to me. Probably I have a loving hubby and supporting family. Plus you need all the rest, rest, rest. Hubby played an important role to avoid depression. Lots of love hugs and kisses.
If he would ever spend his money buying LV bag, I would freak!!!!!!

This condition is known as post-natal blues or the more serious one, post-natal depression. One of the reason commonly cited is the drastic drop in the hormone level (can't remember which one) after delivery...more or less like PMSlah. Serious case one can be really teruk - need to see psychiatrist. In US, one woman drowned all her 5 children during one of her depression spells. Yup...it is that serious...
For me, not depressed but more emotional than usual loh...feel like crying even over seemingly small matters like when they had to extract blood from my son to test the jaundice level (very 'sam tong'), had to admit him for light therapy, got fever because breasts too engorged with milk...
Waht siejang said is true...it makes a big difference if the husband and everyone around you is more supportive....otherwise 1 kali sudah serik :D

This case was actually a lady who had a miscarriage who wanted to have a baby so much tht she steal literally from the womb of another woman. Sad case.
Read also of some mothers who murder their own babies cause of post natal depression.

Don't think it's a good idea of both mothers to be around at the same time. They might want to do things different ways. Why don't you get your mom to help out for 2 weeks and continue with your mil for the next 2 weeks? Teruk, teruk case. later the 2 women fight over powers.

Understand where you're coming from.. Currently I'm staying with my parents, my sis, her hubby & their two kids, 3 year old girl & 3 months old boy & my younger bro. All in the family! ha ha.. P
Anyway my mom mostly will take care of my sis's kids while my mom in law will mostly take care of my wife and baby. She's excited cause 1st grandchild mah.. Mom in law quite traditional and conservative while my mom a bit modern. So maybe clash of cultures.. Anyway my wife can 'control' her mom so hopefully will be okay..

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the wishes! Happy New Year! Logging in from home on dial up as on leave. It's been a hectic New Year's Eve as my wifey started to have some 'show' i.e. slight spotting of blood at around 6 something in the evening on 31/12/2004. So we called the hospital and they ask us to go in later. So we went makan with my family first, then came back and wifey took shower.
Went to the hospital around 10pm and was admitted. Then the wait started! Was kinda hoping for a New Year baby and the signs were there. Wife had contractions every 15 minutes. Spent the night there till morning. Still baby haven't arrive..
To cut a long story short, baby boy arrive only on 2nd at 1241am. Wife had drips to accelerate the contractions and when she couldn't stand the pain, had epidural. Finally baby was delivered with help from the doctor using forceps after almost an hour of pushing. I'm sure for those husbands who were in the labour room, it's an emotional rollercoaster!
Looking at wifey push till face red, really 'sum thung'.. But when baby's finally born, you feel it's really worth it.
Anyway my wife's already discharged today but baby had to stay back at the hospital's NICU(Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) for observation and treatment as he had slight infection in his lungs and slight jaundice. His breathing was also slightly fast so they had to supply him with oxygen to help him. He is also treated with antibiotics for the infection. Baby be able to come home by this week. Will keep you guys posted!
I'll post some pics when i'm back at the office. At home no broadband.
While I was at the NICU after my baby was taken there that night, was there around 2 something in the morning. There was another baby there who was born premature around 28 weeks. The poor thing was on life support and the doctor pronounced it dead. So it was real sad to see the parents crying.
Life's too short, enjoy life to the fullest!

Congrats Linkinfark.
I was in there in the labour room as well with my wife. It only took about 30 minutes, then plop! out came the baby, no problems. Very easy for the missus... at that time.
Then came the nightmare for my wife. It all got very painful for her after that. It turned out that there was a "blood clot the size of a small egg" down the birthing canal. They found this out after she was in the recovery room in pain for an hour. Then they shipped her out to surgery that night and my son had to spend his first night alone at the hospital's nursery. They both only returned home late the next day.
I was at the KL GH non-stop from 5.00 am to 10.00 pm. (Baby came at around 5.00 pm). It was one of the most unforgettable days of my life.

Mr Linkin, how does your baby contract the lung infection? Can share a bit or not?
suliet

Jang, I do not how Linkinfark's baby got contracted with the lung infection but one thing I know for sure is do not consume a lot of oranges and cold drinks during pregnancy. This will cause the baby's lungs to contain phlegms and cause asthma. For the baby's complexion to look nice like Ang Mohs, you should consume cherry tomatoes. I know it really helps because I've consumed a lot of those during my pregnancy and my son really came out like Ang Moh.

Hmmm....have always wondered if there's any truth to all this. I have a colleague who die die also says it's true that if you drink loads of soya milk and milk, he/she will have super smooth skin.
She swears by it coz she is convinced that was the reason her son is fair...me a bit doubtful ler coz both husband and wife also very fair.

Okay, no problem. I can show you the photo of my son. The drinking coffee fact, it is not true. I do take coffee during my pregnancy. If drinking coffee will make your baby dark then don't consume anything in black like coke or soy sauce. And Siew Jang, remember it is cherry tomatoes - the small mini tomatoes. Why I suggested that is because it tastes better than the normal ones and you can consume more of those rather the big ones.

Yes. It contains more vitamins and minerals that way. I would strongly suggest that you grow them in your garden or backyard. If you buy them, they will contain pesticide. It will grow in bundles from one plant. Just take about a handful of it each day.

Hmm... I'm in my 3rd trimestar now. Don't know if it help. Anyway, I'll try them out. But I've taken Spirulina during my 2nd pregnancy and my son turns out to be so fair. Anything that is high in protein will make the complexion of the baby fair. Tell me if I'm wrong.
FYI, men should consume more tomatoes to lower prostate cancer. And anyone with dark complexion would like to be fair quicker after a swimming session should consume more tomatoes before and after the event.

Yes this will also work. Just minta from anybody who has this plant, take the one that is very well ripen.
1) Tear it apart and just let it dry in the sun but you have to be careful, birds will come and attack if they find out.
2) When they are dry, put them (do not have to separate) in a container and cover them with a layer of soil about 1/2 inch thick. Water them with water sprayer once a day until the shoots appeared.
3) When it is about 4 - 5 inches tall, transfer it into a big pot or soil bed and wait for it to bear fruit.

Mr Linkin, how did your son's lung get infected? must learn and take precaution too.
According to doctor it could be from my wife's fluids which he might have swallowed a bit when he was coming out. Treatment of anti bio for few days will do the trick. Baby have recovered from that now but still a bit of jaundice. Have to sun him for few days more but generally he's doing fine.
I suppose if your two labours went well, you shouldn't worry too much. ;)
