why not? :D

questions will be answered no matter what.. even those questions we ask ourselves daily.. we may not consciously answer them, but in actual fact, we do.

if we allow our subconscious mind to answer those questions, we could end up worse off..

hence, when there's a question, i will choose to reply with a deliberate answer.

people may disagree with my answers, but, hey.. everyone's entitled to their own opinions.. let's discuss openly, energetically and with a mind to learn.

I think they are born that way. Upbringing and environment may only cause them to hide it and lean toward the norm , instead of learning that way. My honest opinion.

ok, finally an opinion rather than just asking stupid questions here :)

to me, i think being gay comes from being naturally gay, and also being influenced by environment. like some ah kuas in thailand, genetically, they have both parts, so generally they dig a tunnel rather than build a tower, since they also have smoother skin and fairer features. also, their tower isn't a skyskraper to start with anyway.

however, some are being moulded by environment and by gay films like Brokeback, to ask them to come out of the closet and confess. maybe some ppl are generally more creative and adventurous, thus leaving the known lands and venture to the unknown, and stayed there.

recently, i just found out that there are quite a number of cross-dressers in malaysia. don't ask me how, i wont tell!!

Thanks H2O. :)

My Filipino friend lamented to me one day when I was shopping at her boutique. Why was there so many of her compatriots in Bahrain are like 'that'? Most of them are working in the ladies line, eg. hairdressers, masseurs, make-up artists and prostitutes. I was speechless and after a while explained to her maybe poverty in her country and lack of food nourishment transformed them into what they are now. She agreed with my 'yet scientifically proven' points. We stopped there. Otherwise, how to respond to her....since I am bewildered with this increasingly out of norm behaviour among the human race? :(

They may not be able to help it, but may be able to control their preference by burying it in the closet, as what YK said in his post. Maybe the bisexual will be more influenced by environment, but the homosexual cannot force themselves to like the opposite sex, can they? The only other alternative is to remain celibate.
as an answer to this question, let me pose this question:

are lazy born that way or influenced by upbringing and environment?

laziness are influenced by upbringing and environment, and also by their smart brain thinking of thousands of excuses to get away from doing work. You should know that very well wat, Buff.:sus:

as an answer to h2o's question...i scientific believe is that it is genetic. my personal non-scientific believe is that they're crazy.but...
scientifically, it is possible for them to display this trait, but their explaination of a male trapped in a female body is just stupid. now, im not a biologist or anything, but the male sperms and female ovule(?) merge to form zygots(?) rite? as i understand it, chromosome from the father and the mother combines to create new strands of chromosomes, which in turn determines the dominant sex of the new (for lack of a better word) entity.

now, these chromosomes (biologist, pls correct me if im wrong, please!) essentially contains DNA codes to produce proteins that synthesize male testosterone hormones and female estrogen hormones. these two hormones are produced all the time, in both male and female. the difference being the quantity. an alpha male has more testosterone than most, but there are also traces of estrogen in the system as well. and from the moment of inception, the presence or absence of the Y chromosomes determines how much must be produced.

however, things were thrown if and when the Y chromosomes are ...'damaged' in some way, leading to a imbalance of hormonal production, hence the akua we see today.

disclaimer: these are a totally unscientifically proven opinion.

well...the final question being, are they normal? well...in a sense, yes. from the evolutionary point of view, having both the male and female organs (springing from the fact that the hormones determines the functionality of sexual organs) in one package makes some morbid survival sense. no longer will be confined by the restriction of mating. this line of thinking are highly controversial. thread carefully. if u think asexual life is primitive, odds are, you are wrong. they are among the most advanced living organism on the planet (evolutionary speaking), and if evolutionary theory are anything to go by, humans will either evolve to this state or progress technologically so fast that we will alter the course of evolution, but that, my friend, are a discussion too serious even for this serious thread to answer.

cheers.

Could chromosomes or genes mutation being one of the reason one individual changed so dramatically? Let say, this person was born normal and as he grows up, the underdeveloped genes started mutating thus bodily changes occur.

I have a relative who was born perfectly normal, a very active boy. As he enters adolescent, his characters and appearance altered completely towards feminity. And I can see he befriended gals more. His parents are devastated with him and imagine how he and his parents feel when friends and relatives confronted them with these questions, "Why is he like this?" or "Why he became like this?"

This one very complex. Few scenarios here:

a) Gays and lesbians partners adopting children.

b) One of the lesbian's partner having baby from donated sperms.

c) One of the kids' parents changed sex and these confused kids have to carry along with their new life with an additional mum or dad.

These groups will bring up their children just like any other family. Their children have to call their gays' parents, dad A and dad B while the children of lesbians would have to call theirs, Mum A and Mum B.

1) My questions are, do you think it makes sense to allow this kind of family institutions (a) and (b) to exist?

2) Do you think the children will pick up the same lifestyles as their parents when they are adults?

3) Who are we to blame when this 'trend' are growing by numbers everywhere?

4) There are gay and lesbian parades annually in some countries and participants are of enormous numbers from around the globe.

I am aware that no one has the right to deny others liking and to me respecting peoples belief and life are of utmost importance in every way.

I can simply conclude that our surroundings play a big part in our inclinations preferences.

The above are my personal views. Thanks.

H2O ah, there are many questions from me hor. Are you going to penalize me for my backwards opinions ah? :D

why is 'laziness' not the same as being gay? some people are 'naturally' more hardworking than others... however, why can't we say that most of the lazy people have to 'bury it (their laziness) in the closet', as laziness is not accepted or appreciated by society?

the point i'm trying to make is: if we blame everything on genetics, then when will we be blamed for anything? e.g.

is someone's propensity to womanise and break traffic law also in the genes? are those mass murderers born with the murderous genes? was hitler's hatred for the jews genetic?

of course the historians etc will come up with theories as to why hitler was the way he was i.e. upbringing, etc. however, i believe there are many others who were brought up in the same environment but they never turned into hitler...

ahhhhh, the great nature versus nurture debate. believe it or not, this debate has been going on for a long time now. it is no surprise that this question will pop up.

no, not everything ills that humans are capable of coming up have to do with genetics. thats just too trivial it not even fun. nein, there are other considerations. but socially speaking, with an eye towards statistics, characters like lazy bums and scums of society are a must. in fact, they are even pre-requisite for life. some may look at it like a social mutation, a propensity to produce all and any kind of societal models, and the strongest model will endure and propagate. just like evolution, the strongest and fittest of the species will survive in this harsh world. but for one to survive, many many others will have to die.

in the lazy people context, no, it is not genetic, but its widespread manifestation is proof that society is under-going great changes, during which it will either succumb to these..."lazy bones" pressure and bring society down to its knees or it will discard them in favor of hardworking people who tends to improve society as a whole.

my advice about those lazy bums...ignore them. let them die their lamentable fate. the future belongs to those who takes it in their hands...and squeeze, real hard!

you are talking abt crimes here...but gayness is neutral - just a state - not a crime

i asked this question bcos
1. my gay colleague said he knew when he was a tiny tot that he was gay and his family and background was seriously against it.... but you cant fight nature and he had no choice but to come out.... good on him
2. i am being accused by friends of "conditioning" my son to lean towards being gay by letting him do girly things like ballet and music and art instead of soccer and other popular boy sports, and taking him to watch matthew bourne's 'gay' swanlake...... of course i am not trying to make my son lean that way and i doubt if there is anything i can do to alter his sexuality haha (sorry to the proponents of the "nurture" theory)

my next question:

do you think gay (guys n gals) were born that way and found out when they grew up or do you think they were influenced by their upbringing and environment to lean that way? if you have reasons for your opinion pls provide them...

(i have two reasons for this question but will not share them yet as to not bias any answer)

I'm no good in answering the questions like this but from biblical perspective this is what I get :

God's Wrath Against Mankind

Romans 1:18-27

18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness,
19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature-- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and
23 exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.
25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen.
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.
27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

I'll just stop at verse 27. Sorry if there are sensitive issue but that's what I thought related to the questions.

Law of nature...everything will come to it's most stable state (ie state of rest or equilibrium) and will remain there. It will need some external force to push it to activity again. So for a lazy person, they'll need a bigger push factor to get them into activity. Push factor Ξ upbringing & environmental.

if i remember my biology lesson in Uni correctly (while trying hard not to keep looking at a hot coursemate), evolution does not mean only the strongest and fittest survive. generally, the ones that survives are the ones most adapt to their surroundings.

case study (from lecture notes)
certain birds in the galapagos island showed an extreme case whereby those that survive are not those normal sized birds, but the 2 extremes of a normal population curve. the bigger ones survive coz they can get the nuts and crack it, while the smaller ones are ok to live off the extras that the big ones did not eat. however, the middle sized ones are dying cos they can't compete with the big ones, and yet they cannot survive just on the leftovers.

likewise, nowadays it's harder to have huge size animals (of course you will have odds and ends of nature) since land is getting more and more premium, and soon the big ones will fight over territory and die, while the smaller ones that survive might just be happy enough with smaller place and does not need more food.

end of the day, evolution is those that adapt best to surroundings, and those crap about strongest and fittest are bull-crap. strong and fit, but no brains.....totally kena owned.....

mid term studying. face it, long term studying is useless unless u know what it is ur studying. eg, if u listen and understand the things being thot in class, then long term studying is definately it. however, understanding in class made long term studying redundant, then u tend to cram at the last minute.

in short, depends on ur own intellectual ability (and brain capacity! ), long term study is for those who are generally weak, and last minute cramming is for those who already understood most of the syllabus. if ur inbetween, do as my great great grandmaster, Bruce Lee says: Be like water, find your own level, young grasshopper!"

is it still considered sexual harrassment if a junior male colleague makes an unwelcome move on a more senior female? what can one do in this instance, or issit unnecessary to do anything (ie just ignore the incident)

I thought sexual harrassment is neutral in term of age and sex. No?

i thot it is only classified as harrassment if the 'victim' has no choice but perhaps suffer some consequences if decline (ie lost opportunities, or no pay rise, or lost job)

so in this case, i have more 'power' and will suffer no consequences when i tell him to buzz off....?

only prob is he may not be very cooperative when doing my project liao

grades, like A+, B, B-, C+, or fail, depending on how good the sexual harassment is :P
