it's probably becos at the time, we only knew about the usual 5 professional careers..

Doctor, Engineer, Architect, Lawyer and Accountant.

The rest aren't categorised as "professional".

As we got closer to Uni, IT came into the picture.. it was the new "professional" career.. i guess tt's why a lot of us are in IT..

i believe it's got a lot to do with our education system as well.. in many unis in asia, there's just isn't enough variety in our courses.. a simple example is the Business/Commerce Faculty..

usually they have Commerce, Accountancy, Economics, Business Administration, Banking & Finance.. tt's about it..

when i did uni, we had Public Relations, Advertising, Corporate Communications, Industrial Relations, Human Resource Management, Management, Marketing, International Business, Electronic Business, Mass Comm besides the usual stuff..

it was only then i realised how much i've not seen of the Real world..

the thing now is for us to realise this for the next generation.. are we going to be like our parents and force us into a career path that might not suit what our kids shld be doing or are we going to be different.

for me, if my kid wants to be an entrepreneur instead of going to Uni.. i'll say Well done!! Smart kid!

i'm secretly hoping that my kid would start his/her first business by the age of 14.. haha..
