I am thinking of purchasing humidifer to use in the bedroom. Since i'm forever in an aircon area, i think i need this la. plus my noise gets stuffy and then dry. Both me and Gar loon also suffer from dry throat.

i knowthere are two type, the warm mist and the cold mist. i'm going for the cold-mist one since m'sia so hot. Any recommendations?

i also heard prolong use of humidifiers will promote the growth of molds in the room. So how often should i use it?

if it is only to prevent dry throat, fill up a pail of water everynite and placed it in the room when you go to bed.

I tried that pail of water in room thing. Did not help me at all. WAHAHA.

Ath.. you can still try tho.. maybe for you it helps.

Do not know about how frequent you should use them things, but seeing the amount of water vapour coming out of them things, I reckon not too often. hehehe.

For dryness, just like what oddfather recommend will do. What you can try is add a air ioniser. Try the 88 brand. I stepped in their office just out of curiousity and ended up buying a unit for my car after coming away impressed with the freshness of the air in their office. They showed me a slice of bread which was left in front of an air ioniser 2 months ago and it still look fresh without any sign of mold.

They have a few around town. The one I bought was in Kuchai Entrepreneur's park.

there are 3 types of modern humidifiers.

vapourizers (warm mist/steam)..
impellers (cool mist)
and ultrasonic (also cool mist)

it's the cool mist ones tt have the potential of breeding bacteria and mould if u don't maintain the filters regularly..

if u want to buy cool mist ones, ensure they have MicrobanTM or similar coatings to prevent microbe buildup..

i think those with negative ion emitters also benefit in preventing microbes in the air..

Sorry, the brand I was referring to is actually called super8 and not 88.

Athena & Alex, there shall ALWAYS be a threat of nose/throat problems once a person gets exposed to the aircond........I myself do not use the aircond EVERYDAY tho' (while doing music arranging SAHAJA). As for vocal recordings, obviously my aircond is on but I will still make sure the person stands as far away as possible from the recording speakers OR record vocals WITH HEADPHONES/EARPHONES ON. Alternately, I just have my fan on to the MAX and my PC still wouldn't get OVERHEATED..........

Initially I wanted to purchase an air purifier/ionizer/etc, but looking at a possible side effect (where patches moisture gets accumulated onto the wall and key recording devices resulting from water that's sprinkled out of the humidifier), I called that idea off...........

dry throats and stuffy nose!

A lot of lovemaking can unblock a stuffy nose. Sex is a natural antihistamine. It can help combat asthma and hay fever.

i tried last night...not effectively also :(

as for air purifier, i think some of it actually works...it just filters the air. esp when your house is dusty. my aunt's house is relatively less dusty in the hall where she use the air purifier!

you have to really determine what function you want that thing to do?? purify air, moisturize the air, etc. or all in one??

The only way an air purifier would work is you close all your windows and door and control the input of air thru a purifier.

thats what I was trying to imply......before you rush out to buy one, make sure you know what you want, as there are so many types in the market these days. The sales guy will tell theirs is the best......everything also can clean, etc etc.

i would prefer an all-in-one solution la...but the most important now is the humidifying function...

i answer'd zazu's earlier question mah

self cleaning?

self cleaning?

ok..since we are talking abt humidifier and air cleaning systems. let me brief a bit here since i was in this industry for 7 years way before so many brands that are in the market now.

Basically, the RH in malaysia is approx 90-95% outside and in a normal air conditioned room is approx 60%. To go lower than that, you would need a dehumidifier. If you are not comfotable in this environment than a humidifier is utilise to increase the RH. In order to do this as what you guys have been talking abt mist hot or cold. Its ok can work.

As for the air cleaner, there are many types in the market now. The oldest tech is media filter and ionizer and now they come out with hepa filter, UV light, ozoneizer and so on.

All of the above can clean the air but as dino said, it need to be in an enclosed environment. In order to choose the correct machine for you. you would need to consider the area (size of room), the thing that you want to clean (particle, bacteria or odour) and off course the replacement cost (filter is washable or replace).

A quick calculation LxWxH will get the volume of air in the room and after that times 3 for bedroom or 6 for living room. After this you will get the CFM required and find the machine that is close to the figure just now.

Err... i'm no longer in this industry but if anyone intrested. can Pm me and will give you my ex company number and talk to them directly.

Thats my 2 cents worth.

hey.....can you tokking engrish ar?? whats RH?? CFM??

jimdiong

hey.....can you tokking engrish ar?? whats RH?? CFM??

oh...sorri.....
RH = Relative Humidity
CFM = Cubic feet per minutes

RH is use to measure how wet is the air
CFM is the amout of air that a machine can deliver in 1 minute
