erhhhh....alex yoong IS a fluke. A1 champ does not translate to F1 podium finisher.
anyway, don think singapore will host the race. reason being safety. sg gahment and many singaporeans think that there's no place for the track. and if the plan to use the marina south roads for race, had to close many major road just for the race, and that could disrupt traffic in city centre for at least 4 days. sg gahment so kiasu loose money, and sg ppl so kiasu don wan so much hassle, they rather not hav the f1 in sg. malaysia one not bad oredi wat rite?
if evey country say they wan to host f1 circuit, later everywhere oso got f1 circuit, loose the magic leh. i say keep the circuits number small to keep it...rare. rare stuff afterall are more valueble. :D

You are so wrong my friend. If you have watched the race back in 2004, MC won some of the races purely based on strategy. When to come in for fuel stop, how many fuel stops, how much fuel to put in, etc. I was in the Merdeka 12 hours endurance race in Sepang and strategy plays a crucial part of the race.

lagi jialat. endurance race f1 is not. u need to burn a set amount of fuel in a set amount of time for a set amount of distance. how many variables is there? i say strategy plays no part becoz to think that one guy can dictate how much fuel to carry, when to refuel that kind of things, and when he retire (or kena pecat), the claim that no one can take his place is ludicrous. its not strategy. its gut feeling. its technique. if everyone uses the same thing (becoz face it, it is quite common knowledge to add and divide fuel u know. anyone with a modicum of physics education can do it.), wat is there to strategize about? the word i would use, and which i think more represents the situation is, fine-tuning. Now.......that takes real skill, and it cant be learned overnight.
as for endurance races, strategy? i donno. but for rallies...especially the trans-saharan rallies, now, that takes strategy!
else for all other races, like sprinting, what strategy is there? honestly!
LiLiaN
04-16-2007, 07:24 PM
it's not just adding/dividing fuel... there are courses where teams need to weigh between two or three pit stops, if the additional fuel onboard will slow the car down or indeed, let the drive goes longer around the track before pitting (providing nothing goes wrong during the pitstop itself)... or worse, miscalculation of fuel on board (remember, running out of fuel at the last lap and lose the race is never ever a good thing!)...
call this fine tuning if you want, but it's still strategy...

beats me. if they want someone who can count and decide when to pitstop, any competent mechanic can tell u. with the load of fuel ur carrying, u have to make a pit stop at so and so time. or if u wanna make certain numbers of pitstop, this is the amount of fuel u need to pump in each time. really blur why racing games such as this need strategist. its not like its fps or rts or even sim.

there are strategy in F1 and in endurance races. how many pit stops also because less fuel means car can go faster, at an expense of more pit stops, and more fuel means longer time on the track. lets just say, you're starting 10th on the grid, are you going to start with less fuel and stay behind so many ppl? you're not optimizing your weight advantage, but then again, in a track with less overtaking opportunities, starting in front with more fuel makes sense since many wont be able to have chance to overtake you anyway, and you get to stay ahead longer, but the timing of when to stop is also important. how far are you in front? if you go in and refuel, will the second car overtake you and stay in front for the rest of the race, or will he have to refuel? it's strategy la dude. if it's not strategy, all the races in the world have no strategy.
ok, sorry, some races REALLY do not have strategy, like straight line pecut between 2 cars only.

04-24-2007, 11:20 PM
it may look like strategising, but the way i look at it is, its more of a tactical situation. tactical means for the immediated locality or situation, while strategy is more "overhead" kinda stuff. for the race, fuel loads vs pit stops vs speed, is just tactics. in f1 racing, the strategy i see (actually i don see) is if the boss or somebody in the team says, "hmm, our engines not running at optimum. al'rite, we'll scratch this race, get to work on the engine, and we'll win the nex race. even if we lose this battle, we still can win the war...with better engines!" dats strategy; an all encompassing plan involving the entire season. not some nilly plan involving just one race.
for drag racing, i totally agree, no such thing as strategy. endurance racing...the more i think about it, the more difficult it is for me to fit in the strategy part. i don know where it comes in because endurance racing is all about time-fuel consumption! dats it!
for games, first person shooter is always tactical, never strategic. real time strategy is strategy. action is again tactical. mmorpg is crimped strategy. wat else ar? oh, racing games...unless u play the simulation racing games, it's all tactical.

tactical meaning at the moment type of situation (check up the meaning), while strategy, like you mentioned, meant more to the overall preparation BEFORE the race. during the race, it's tactical. so preparation for how many stops to make, what's the fuel load and choice of tyres ARE strategies, NOT tactical. if it rains during the race, then the team can make a TACTICAL decision to change to wet tyres, but anything that happens before the race are STRATEGY.
maybe the issue here is basically the understanding the meaning of the 2 words, rather than the race itself.
cheers!

You're right on the highlighted part. There are just too many factors to explain regarding race strategies. Here's one example.......
Let's say in a race track where overtaking is very difficult (Like Monaco) and if the driver, say Kimi here, gets pole position, the team stragegy MIGHT be to have him on full fuel load to get the distance and reduce pit stops (if his tyres permits). But if the other driver behind him, say Alonso, have a faster car on that day and finds that Kimi is just blocking him, his team might just call him in for an early pit stop, esp after they calculate his pit stop exit to coincide with the time when there'll be less traffic / back markers to block him. This way Alonso might just be able to post fast time (with less traffic in front) so much so that by the time Kimi exit his pit stop, Alonso will be in front of him.
There are also other factors to consider like tyres performace, back markers blocking, weather changes, yellow flags (no overtaking when it so happens he gets a chance to do so), the deployment of safety car (fuel burning, cars gap closing), etc. All these changes will definately make the chief strategist to re-think / change his original strategy.

It was the fuelling member or the fuel rig that did not close properly after removing it causing some fuel vapour to spill onto the hot surface of the car which caused the fire. Massa looked at his side mirror after leaving his pit box and instinctively slowed down but decided to continue leaving the pit. Fortunately the fire put off by itself but that have caused some valuable seconds. However he was lucky to have won the race.

indeed... hamilton has been with the team for years....
but alonso, he's the world champion holder wanting good prospect...
nobody wants to be upstaged by a talented rookie...
looking at the races this year, they've ever been won only by 4 drivers...

According to McLaren, Hamilton ignored orders from the pit lane to allow Alonso to pass in front of him.

regardless of who was wrong in the first place, the fact is they should be working in team spirit and fair competition... this is just childish then, to go tit for tat and trying to up one on another... if you have problem with something, you're supposed to deal with it like an adult...

I think the fine (100mil. Pound is it?) and the lost of constructor's championship points are fair regardless of whether the stolen ferrari data have contributed or not to the their current status. However to go as far as to suspend Mclaren to 2 years ban would be too harsh. Mclaren afterall have been in F1 for a long time and have contributed a lot to the motorsport, so FIA should consider that.
Ron Dennis yesterday made a statement to ferrari's lawyer that he's not on a cold war with Alonso since the Budepest GP. That is kinda childish coming from a Professional. They should have put personal feelings aside and work towards the team's goal. Everyone in Mclaren worked hard and they should not be "robbed" off their hard work just because of 2 individuals.

no no, nothing that crazy... it's 100 million dollars... and only stripping of constructor's point for this year... next year's up for review when the new car is produced...
i think things may be more complicated than we know, since there's report of alonso threatening to go to the governing authority with emails... and that's what prompt denis to go to mosley first ahead of alonso... something is definitely not right there....
yes, for pros not to talk to each other and feud so publicly, that's very childish... not sure now how long alonso will be staying in mclaren but as my cousin's bf said, he may be a good driver but lately what we see is that he's a bit of a loose canon - who dares to hire him next? he lacks the ability to be a team player...

To me I think it's not fair.
FIA obviously is on the other side of McLaren's camp.
To me, information stealing happens everywhere.
Too bad Ferrari employs people who are not loyal to them.
Just because McLaren is so far in front of them causes them to revert to sly techniques.
Ferrari did it before when only 6 cars were racing in US. They won and were very proud of their 18 points.
Bravo Ferrari.

Looking at things this year, I don't think McLaren would be interested in supporting FIA's F1 should their points be stripped off.
Alonso to me is definitely one of the best drivers in F1 in the current years.
He was world champion for 2 years (even beating Michael Shumacher) in a row with Renault and currently top 2 leading drivers, with McLaren.
McLaren was struggling with Kimi blowing uncountable engines and things changed when Alonso is behind the wheel.
Maybe Kimi sucks...?

Poor Lewis, gotta wait till the next race to decide if he can be the record world champ. Mc Laren shouldn't have made the simple mistake of calling in him late to the pit knowing that his tyres are already wearing thin.
Now Fernando and Kimi can smile.

the springboks may not be playing tight game yesterday...
but the pumas seem to be an exhausted team against scotland...
if they don't recover from such form, then the springboks will take over...
well, back to F1 though, alonso seem to be in better position to win than kimi...
but then again, kimi is a guy who doesn't give up and will keep on pushing...
so fingers cross that he'll do a great job in the next race!

the pumas have been impressive so far as a team, they've got the agility and most definitely the much needed determination..even against all the odds...
this time round it seems underdogs are having a meal in all the big games...so I say Argentina to send the Springboks back to Africa, then we will have a pleasant tactical game (rather than brute strenght for a change!) of finals against the much improved French connection..;)
Hamilton is definitely in the driving seat...he'll learn from his rookie mistake at China and snatch his maiden championship by gaining enough points..as for Alonso, i doubt his crew will be 'supportive' after his Judas :crying: act...
Massa to win at his home (if Kimi fades away from contention)! this guy really got speed!
