What's your opinion on using profanaties??
I think it does release stress and tension when you are pissed and you say something offensive.
This is a private poll btw.

believe it or not, my YOUNGER bros would reprimand me for swearing (unlady-like)...
so i'm only allowed to use something like "bugger", "darn it", "sugar" (instead of sh*t)... i.e. substituted words...
definitely not something vulgar or i'll never hear the end of it...
and after so many years, there's just simply no habit of swearing anymore... :noworry: :cheesy:

It all depends whether you are used to saying those words. If you are not, you will feel uncomfortable using it, feels just like a foreign language to you. No, i never say the strong profane words...but the mild ones like shit, dem ...sometimes laa, but very hardly. But i don't feel offended hearing people say it.... my angmoh boss uses the F word whenever he's pissed off, but at least it's not directed to anyone in particular. But hearing the Ah Lians and Ah Beng injecting the profane words frequently in their conversation is very funny, and very unnatural, if you know what i mean.

Alkapocino

That's why we substitute those vulgar words with abbreviations! But still it's profanity. Hmmm....promise will try hard not using it. :o

But hearing the Ah Lians and Ah Beng injecting the profane words frequently in their conversation is very funny, and very unnatural, if you know what i mean.:rolleyes:oh deliberate use so that they would be seemingly cool..? that's sad...
and yeah, i don't use it often so i don't feel comfortable using them much...
but when i do use it (must be a very bad day), then it's a lot more effective...
and people do take note and pay attention to what i have to say about the source of my annoyance...

Yeah, that's true. If you overuse it, it'll lose its effect.

i know one in tagalog that i reserve for really angry bursts. according to my 'sifu', never use that. and if u must, expect to be pummeled. apparently, in the philipines, if u use that, they sees it as a challenge and will kick ur arse.

i used to never use it...then tried not to use it...nowdays, hmmm...its more of 'once in a blue moon'

coz sometimes when referring to some ppl...who act bitchy, i jus cant contain myself from using the word B***H

btw,...is 'damn' considered as profanity?

btw,...is 'damn' considered as profanity?

"wats in a name that which a rose by any other name smells just as sweet?"

wat is bitch? it is but a word describing a female dog.
wat is damn? it is but a word corrupted from condemned used to describe "to those who are condemned"

by themselves, they are not profanities which in of itself is harmless. therefore let us not dwell on what is the word can do for you, but instead try to realise the truth: there is no spoon!

understand the intent of the word in the context that it is conveyed.

addendum: if i were to say "i love you", would u still understand me if i say "I deeply care for you" to take the meaning of "I love you"? OF COZ!

same thing: 'bitch' being replaced by another word...say...."peacock!" will be just as venoumous IF the intent of the message is to be conveyed.

but of coz, i'm talking "male chicken" here, so feel free to "insert" my "posterior".

then they missed the true purpose of the matrix....wait, wrong thread! lol.
seriously, no matter what word they use, if the meaning is there, it is still cursing ans swearing. personnally, i prefer ppl to NOT have the cursing intention towards me. like that, they can use profanities till the cows come home, and still i'll take no offence. how many are like that? abnormal isn't it?

a colleague told me that swearing is for people who are too lazy to think of the proper words to use.
so instead of saying i thought he was a $%£"!!!!!, i would have to say "illegitimate spawn of a female of negotiable affections, overly fond of manual erotic stimulation of the genitals". seems such hard work! it's easier to say b@$t@rd and w@nk£r, if u see what i mean.

capt caveman & i watched a movie the other night where a 6 year old boy asked his mum what "f^ck" means. the mum smiled and said, "it's a bad word for something nice - it means making love but the bad word can make it something dirty and shameful."
