Kawaii is more than fashion....not even a fashion statement. Its about gaya, style and attitude.
Its like being cool....when you put on a Hawaii shirt or a Bermuda shorts.
e.g. Athena, you are soooo kawaii, man!! :D

Ath, not just a fashion statement...it's the look. Now the kawaii look is very hot among the young stars/ singers...it's something like cute girlish like Japanese look. Anyway, kawaii is a Japanese word meaning cute.

din you know Foochow is also known as Malaysian Japanese. :p
Chinese(Foochow) has 6000 characters while Japanese has 4000. So there are similarity.

Erhmmm....I have thot that the name of the Island State of Hawaii was directly derived from that Jap word called Kawaii.....but found out that they are not of the same meaning. The difference between the meanings of Kawaii and Hawaii (Island):
Kawaii - Cute (Japanese)
Hawaii - combination of the words "Hawa" and "ii" and means a small or new homeland; "Hawa" meaning a traditional homeland and "ii" meaning small and raging.

of coz u guys do know that kawaii is the national culture of japan. :noworry:
really, it is everywhere; in books, comics, schools, even military recruitment posters. business uses cute cartoon characters in their reports, tv stations uses cute letterings and cuter girls to host them, and the cutest of the cutest are star idol type of personality there! really, their life technically rests on kawaii-ness. lol.

Shiru, I personally think another over-used Jap word besides KAWAII would be HENTAI, I guess - better not over-elaborate.....keep it at this level will do......tooooooo sensitive an issue UNLESS PROPERLY EXPLAINED........
MANGA as we all should know, means comic in Japanese, and cartoons are called ANIME in Japanese (borrowed term: animation)..........

alamak.. where all your theories come from????
Kawaii just simply means "cute" or "cutesy"
but it's an extreme kinda cute.. so kawaii dresses are usually pink, with cute embroideries, lace, and frilly bits.. it's something you'd buy for your 3 yr old niece.. but imagine those clothes in adult/teen sizes..
it only works in 2 countries, Japan and Taiwan. wear them in M'sia, Sg, HK or Korea and ppl will think you're nutz..
