Roo's Better Than Best
The world has marvelled at the emerging talent of Wayne Rooney over the past three years but few know what the young superstar is like away from the pitch and the headlines. In an exclusive extract from his new book, Rio Ferdinand uncovers a supremely confident player. "Wazza actually believes he will be better than Eric Cantona and George Best," revealed Rio. "He actually said so once, half- jokingly, when we were in the dressing room: “I’ll be the best player to play for United." Deep down he really does believe it, but he’s not being cocky.
Ian McGarry, The Sun
Next Game - 24 Sept (Saturday) @12.15 midnight - Reading vs Man Utd

09-28-2006, 03:43 PM
Yeah Man U beat Benfica 1 nil but the game was so lame.. Carrick and Rooney was totally off form. Carrick was the worst, losing possesion in the middle. The most outstanding player was still Ronaldo. I tot it was heading for a draw until Saha pop in one on the 70mins. Nice goal!!
Besides that lots of playing acting by Benfica players:mad: . dropping so easy and clutching their faces. Was really a hostile stadium to play in. Benfica fans were really wild and crazy. And I tot there will be more red cards flashing for Man U players. Luckily none, only yellow.
Indeed a payback time for Man U by beating benfica after last year's lost. Damn, this is Man U first win in away euro games. Glad that they broke the jinx early in the season.
Hei James, Welcome back....

United linked with fresh Torres raid
Manchester United will reportedly sign Fernando Torres for £26million next summer after agreeing to make a down-payment for his services.
The Red Devils have long been linked with the highly-rated Atletico Madrid frontman and speculation of a move to Old Trafford intensified in the summer after Ruud van Nistelrooy left to join Atletico's city rivals Real.
The 22-year-old Torres, who has also been heavily linked with Chelsea, moved to head off the reports by signing a one-year contract extension with Atletico.
But it is now claimed Sir Alex Ferguson has agreed to make a down-payment of £5million in a bid to beat Chelsea to the signing of Torres, who netted four goals at the World Cup.
The striker - nicknamed 'El Nino' - had a buy-out clause worth £41million in his contract however Atletico have reportedly dropped the price because of United's 'show of faith' and his apparent desire to move to Old Trafford.
Something to look forward for next summer... Wish this could happen earlier.....

ROONEY 'BACK TO HIS BEST' - FERGUSON
Sir Alex Ferguson declared Wayne Rooney "back to his best" after the young striker helped inspire Manchester United to a thrilling comeback win over Wigan.
Seemingly well below top form in recent times, Rooney started on the left-hand side of a five-man midfield at the JJB Stadium but responded magnificently to the more central role handed to him as a result of the half-time introduction of Ryan Giggs.
The England star may still be waiting for his first goal since the opening day of the season but his two assists helped ease United to a 3-1 triumph which consolidated their position at the Premiership summit.

Rooney opens United contact talks
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has opened talks with the club aimed at cementing his long-term future at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old has previously stated his intention to remain with the Red Devils but confirmation that negotiations have begun will ease any tension among United's supporters about Rooney's short-term intentions.
Although the deal Rooney signed when he completed his £27million switch from Everton in 2004 is not due to expire for another four years, both club and player are eager to extend it.
It has been suggested agreement could be reached by the end of the year, with any new deal certain to catapult Rooney into United's high-earning bracket despite a series of below-par displays in recent times.

ROONEY: I'M BACK TO MY BEST
Wayne Rooney said he's back to his best after leading Manchester United to another Champions League win.
Rooney took centre stage against FC Copenhagen, stepping in to captain the side after the late withdrawals of Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand.
The youngster pulled the strings as goals from Paul Scholes, John O'Shea and Kieran Richardson gave his side a 3-0 victory.
Rooney had worn the armband briefly against Burton Albion last season after coming off the bench but enjoyed his first taste of tossing the coin.
"I was pleased to get the armband but it wasn't the main issue of the night," said Rooney.
"We're really pleased, we got three goals and three points and it was an important win.
"My form is getting better, I was pleased with how I played against Wigan and again tonight. I think I'm more or less back to my best."
Yeah!! Bring On Pool!

Yesterday nite - Man U young guns beat Crewe 2-1 after ET. Nail biting but the youngsters outplayed the outstanding Crewe at last.... Glad to see Silvestre, Heinze and Smith back in the team. No doubt they look a little rusty. No first 11 on the team list even on the bench. Heem!! little risky tho... anyway, a win is still a win. K.Lee scored the deciding goal. Solksjaer scored the first.
Next is Southend on either 7 or 8 Nov. I bet SAF will field the young kids again.

Things have been quiet for today on the Man U news front. So here goes:-
"Lifelong Manchester United fan Freddy Eastwood ruined Sir Alex Ferguson's 20th anniversary celebrations by sending the Carling Cup holders tumbling out of this season's competition.
The Southend striker, who twice attended Sir Bobby Charlton's famed soccer schools as a youngster, struck the decisive blow with a superb free-kick midway through the first half.
The goal proved enough to earn the Shrimpers one of the most famous nights in their entire history against a Red Devils line-up containing 10 full internationals, including Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo"
Who is Southed (aka Shrimpers) : currently bottom of the championship league, 43 places below man u to be exact...

Ferguson celebrated 20 years as Red Devils boss on Monday, having long since established himself as the most successful manager Britain has ever produced.
Ferguson's 20 years at United were celebrated with a lunch in his honour in Manchester on Monday. Former skippers Bryan Robson and Steve Bruce were there along with current managerial rivals Sam Allardyce, Paul Jewell and David Moyes, plus long-time friend Sir Bobby Robson and a host of other famous footballing figures, including current England coach and former United number two Steve McClaren.
For all their combined abilities, none have come close to matching Ferguson's achievements, which include eight titles, five FA Cups and a the famous Champions League triumph of 1999.

Welll Stanley was right, was in a morning period this morning. Have to admit that Pool deserved to loose. They played without any imagination. I mean with Zendednstarting in the middle, what do you expect. Stevie G was also totally off form (like the whole season). We looked totally lost in the game. Like one comentator mentioned, Pool's away form looks more a relegation fighting team and a chmpionship winning team. Almost (sic, still being hopeful) no more chance to win the title this year. We imporoved i guess, one year we lost the title in Oct and this year Nov :)..

Heem! A draw would have been fair. Like Mourinho said 1st Half was Man Utd and 2nd Half was Chelsea's.
I would say the ref managed the game well, MU started brightly and deserved the first goal thru Saha (what a goal?) then knowing Mourinho he changes things around, took out Geremi and replace him with Robben.
I would say A.Cole was the man of the match, he stopped Ronaldo from playing from the right flank. Ronaldo just couldn't out smart him.
Damn! that Carlvaho again?? luckily this time he did not take out Rooney again.
Chelsea defence is still one of the best in EPL. Players throwing in their bodies to block shots like Terry and Cole. lots of bruises that nite..

With Giuseppe Rossi out on loan, Alan Smith well short of match fitness and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer injured, Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson fears a striker shortage could derail his side's Premiership title bid.
Wayne Rooney and Louis Saha have formed a powerful partnership up front so far this season but with the latter notoriously prone to injuries, strength in depth is vital if United are to prevent Chelsea from wrapping up a title hat-trick
Is he good enough for Man Utd??

The Man Utd win was tarnished by the "beautiful" diving of Ronaldo. A true footbal fan would agree that he dives to often . He should learn a thing or two from Rooney. Never seen him dive! He takes everything that comes along and gives some back!

Yeah, A must win tonite. I am confident MU will play well at home.
Should give some credit to Ronaldo, he is the most tackled player in EPL this season. I guess he just tripped. This is the first incident that he got a penalty and the press is calling him a diver... Have seen more better divers then him lah... Pool also got players like that - drama king.

United linked with Klose move
Manchester United have again been linked with a move for Werder Bremen forward Miroslav Klose.
United are still desperately short on numbers in attack despite last week's capture of Henrik Larsson and now reports in Germany suggest Klose could be on his way to Old Trafford.
Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs has hinted they may sell the Germany international if the right offer comes along and following their Champions League exit on Tuesday, even a move in January is on the cards.
Sir Alex Ferguson will reportedly want to wait until the summer but will need to spend at least £10million to capture the 28-year-old while Barcelona, Inter Milan and AC Milan are also rumoured to be interested in his services.
Wow!! With Larsson on loan and Klose in Man Utd team, it will be mouth watering to watch....

Indeed it was a sweet revenge over Benfica. Was worried when benfica took the lead in 1st half with a stunning goal (can't denied that). MU equal the score in 1st half stoppage time thru Vidic's header and that was at that point I knew MU will wrap up the game.
The game was over in 75 mins after Giggs beauty in 61st and Saha's header in 75th. After that it was a stroll in the park. Saving energy for the manchester derby this weekend.
Wow! Arse, Pool, Chelksi and MU were top of each respective group in CL with Celtic into last 16 as well. Shows this year British team are superior then others.
Yeah!! At least last year disaster in CL is behind us now.

Others - Arsenal thrashed Blackburn 6-2 and Liverpool won 2-0.

Final Score : Man Utd 3 Wigan 1
All Man Utd goals came in 2nd half, Ronaldo 2 goals and Ole 1 goals. last minute consolation goal for Wigan thru penalty. Man Utd started the game without Giggs, Neville, Ferdinand, Carrick and Saha. Ole started upfront with Rooney and Park. Still good enough to grind out a deserving win thru Ronaldo's effort when he came off the bench in the 46 mins
Man Utd tops the table with 4 points ahead of Chelsea who drew 2-2 with Reading at home. Liverpool lost 0-1 to Blackburn.:p
At last, Chelski's luck ran out tonite with a calamity own goal by Cole/Essien at 85 mins to level the score 2-2. All I can say it is about time for chelsea to drop points. Liverpool away games woes remains the same
Man Utd has the advantage over Chelsea now:D

Another wonderful win for MU tonite, 3-2 over Reading. Could have been more goals for MU?? Ronaldo was the key player tonite. Scoring 2 goals and creating the other one for Solksjaer. What a record for Ronaldo, 6 goals in the last three games. Not bad for Solksjaer too, 2 goals in 2 starts. What a way to end the year with a win tonite. More exciting games coming up for Man U starting 1st Jan 2007.
And a Special Welcome to Henrik Larsson to Man Utd.
Yippee! Chelsea drew 2-2 with Fulham tonite so this means MU has 6 points + superior goal difference over Chelsea now. Yeah, 6 points leads equals to 2 wins??
OK, Pool won tonite 1 nil over Spurs. I believe pool fans will say something in this thread tommorrow. Don't you think they have been very very quiet lately?? Err.. maybe they are all busy holidaying during this festive season.

Wow! lilian your prediction was right.. MU drop two points due to lapse of concentration at the back. But have to give credit to Newcastle, they played well tonite even without their first 11. Surprise goal from Edgar (home debut) to level the score to make it 2-2. Park Ji Sung could have hammered in the winner in the last minute but he didn't. That was the golden miss, Park also miss a sitter in the first hald, just not his day. Shay Givens was on form, denying few point blank shots.
Park, Rooney, Fletcher and Giggs were below par tonite. 2 MU goals came from Scholes long range effort. Happy to see Scholes back in the scoring sheet.
Dissappointing nite for Man Utd. I hope Chelsea will not win against Aston Villa tommorrow but I think Chelsea will win easily.
Big win for Reading tonite 6-0 over West Ham (pheww!!) and Pool big win over Bolton 3-0. Congrats! to Pool fans.

Mourinho: United have blown it
Jose Mourinho believes Manchester United have wasted a golden opportunity to open an almost unassailable lead over Chelsea in the race for the Barclays Premiership title.
The Chelsea boss insists the six-point advantage held by Sir Alex Ferguson's side after the completion of the festive programme is 'nothing' as he prepares to welcome back John Terry, Arjen Robben and Peter Cech from injury.
Will Terry, Robben and Cech make a difference when they are back in the lineup??

Mourinho: United have blown it
Jose Mourinho believes Manchester United have wasted a golden opportunity to open an almost unassailable lead over Chelsea in the race for the Barclays Premiership title.
This is why Alex Ferguson has a title 'SIR'. All great personalities know how to pace themselves.
The same goes for our team, I mean the one and only. Sir Alex knows how to pace the team in order not to burn out and peak his players too early.
However, we have a freak situation in MU. Christiano is head and shoulders above the rest of the world even though he's pacing himself.
Ladies and gentlemen, can you imagine the kind of performance he'll display when he's instructed to peak? He'll blow everybody's mind.
The only fear is that everybody's for sale in EPL.

Moan Rhino (Jerry, please get your spelling correct) can field anyone they like. I think he'll be satisfied with #2. That's as far as they can go. However, Pool is capable of catching up...!

Was away during the festives, so no chance to post. Well manure did well in the christmas games, dropping 2 points and pool also not too bad, dropped 3 against Blackburn. while chelski dropped a lot:laugh:
looks like man u should win the title but don't forget the 1995/1996 season. In January, the barcodes (newcastle) were leading the table by 12 points and they still lost the title to Man U.
You guys have a few tought away games coming: Arsenal, Pool, Chelski, Man City, Spurs and Everton.

We know how to pace ourselves.
BTW Socka, when would you like our Christiano Ronaldo to peak?
I'm sure you wouldn't like him to play his best against Pool, right?

Good to be back!
As much as I despise him, must admit Ronaldo is top form now. Esp since R. V. Nistelroy not around to bully him and make him cry:D.
Aiyo why Larsson, dia orang tua...! sure he dont need wheelchair?
This week, FA Cup. Good matches, Pool v Arse and Villa v Man U. What is the prediction?

Larrson is a goal poacher. He is still deadly in front of goal mouth. This is what Man U is lacking in front of goal after Nisteroy left. He should do fine in the next two months.
OKlah, I predict Pool and Man U to win. Home team will have the advantage!

Larrson is old but still can score goals at least i think for a few games but if play full 90mins i dun think he can last.
But ronaldo sure can dive and play act better than Nistelrooy and that's y he left for Madrid. Kikiki...

Ole! Larsson nets as Villa are sunk
Final Score - Man Utd 2 Villa 1
Larsson scored on his debut for Man Utd, :D After the break, the Swede finally found the net when a flowing move ending with Larsson stabbing home a clinical strike at 55 mins. Larsson still have the killer instinct in front of goal as shown tonite. What a start for him? More to come from him....
The equaliser then came on 74 when the ball fell to Baros in the 18-yard box and he steered home a low right-footed shot.
The baby-faced Ole, who came in as a sub for Larsson scored the winner in stoppage time - 92 mins to make it 2-1.
Bad night for Rooney and Carrick, both of them look off form:mad:
I tot the game was heading for a replay but Ole made the difference tonite.
A good night for Man Utd with luck on our side as well. Hopefully next weekend they will perform better. same venue same team....

Ole ole Ole Ole Ole...Ole...Ole!
10 years of great service to the club. Still scoring goals for fun. Bought only for 1.5 mil. Long may his career continue with MU.
There are not many players who are humble and down to earth these days (even in the MU team :() ...he is certainly one of them.

Yeah, Agree with you. Ole is such a humble pie... Everyone in OT and even all over the world love him. For him to comeback after nearly 3 years, he has been a gem to MU. Now he has 9 goals in all competition this season. Expect more from him. He is so reliable when MU needed him.
Cheers to OLE the great!!

No offense but c'mon...he yells like a baby whenever there's a slight contact between him and the defender. I think the linesman from the opposite side can also hear him. True he has big talent and snaky hips that can put shakira to shame but sportmanship wise...???? i dunno...
