seagate's good(7200 rpm w 8mb cache). maxtor imo is terrible based on the hdds performance n durability we use for our 4 cybercafes.

well.... the reason i need a new hdd is because... my trusty Seagate Barracuda ATA IV, 7200 rpm 2mb cache.... has finally died on me... it's been running almost 24/7 since nov 2002 till about a week ago... *SiGh*

sigh.....don get seagate liou. baddd hdd. maxtor is good, but there is another better alternative. get a western digital hard disk. highly recommended by ...well, many. 200gb++ but price cheaper than maxtor i think.
If you are using SATA, here's a comparison between Seagate, Maxtor and WD.

from what i understand, western digital hard disk tat is sold in malaysia is not first grade stuffs. seagate are much quieter as Western D are notorius for noisy hard disk. maxtor is not too bad, but i had a friend who changed 5 maxtor hdd within a year due to problems in reading. so far, seagate is still the most stable one, although may not be as fast as Western D
