VC.. me no camera reviewer lar.. but kodak say... better focusing speed and reduced shutter lag. So I guess it could be a faster camera. Personally, I would not go for those "prosumer" digital cams. 90% of the time, pics taken from normal slim and sleek consumer digicams like the Ixus would be the same as any other prosumer grade digicams.

Singteck.. cheapest digicam with manual controls is probably Canon's A500 (and above) series with its prices hovering between RM1K to RM1.6K.

The P712 is not an EOS camera.

EOS is Canon's range of SLR cameras.

And yes... prosumer cameras are easy to use. Same with most digital SLR cameras. They have a full AUTO mode. :P

Price of P712 should be about RM2K or slightly more. They should be on par with the current offerings from Canon and Panasonic.

But to tell you the truth, I do not know how to rate a camera. Not since I realised that the photographer makes all the difference.

But since you asked, here are some of the very general technical differences among them.

D70s Vs. D50
1/8000 shutter speed vs. 1/4000
D70s comes with wireless flash commander mode (to be used with sb600/800)
D70s has two command dials (front and back). D50 got back only
D70s got DOF preview. D50 tarak
D50 has newer but less resolution metering matrix
D50 has new AF-A (auto switch between single AF and tracking AF)
D50 slower by 0.5 frames per second
D50 smaller in size

To me, the 350D is the same league with the D50, but the D50 is built much better and it feels more solid as well (the D50).

As for rating, the D70s stands out from the other two. The D50 and the 350D is at par with each other.

A lot of people just do not get it.

A lot of people think that by getting the BEST prosumer camera and understanding technicalities like ISO, white balance, aperture setting and all that will automatically enable them to take wonderous photographs.

Lilian + TeeWei take such nice photos, and they take better photos than I do because I, like many, used to spend a great deal of time trying to master technicalities and reading up on censor and lense technical charts, and blaming my lousy pics on inferior lenses.

When in manual mode (M), you set the aperture and shutter speed manually. This means the exposure will either be over or under, or correctly exposed depending on your setting.

Looks like you crop the pic. Good idea as consumer digicams' macro mode require you to move very close with the fly which will definitely chase it away.

Try not to take pics of insects with consumer digicams. Try using take inanimate objects. Flowers is a good idea. Food is not a bad close up subject as well :)

fortunately, the fly doesnt fly when i take more than 10 shot of it... playing with the range. so far, this is the best i can take. ;)

Of course when you have bought your equipements and content with it then you should stop being an engineer and start being a photographer again. It's amazing how much info there is on the net on digital cameras esp slrs. there is so many forums and reviews and websites. Do your homework before making a purchase. BTW kamkuey bro what do you think of Full Frame? Its tempting la but just to expensive at the moment.....
