Anyone watch any anime, be it Japanese or in some other languages? What 's your favourite anime?
Well, I am into InitialD series. It is a japanese anime. Currently it has 3 completed stages and the 4th Stage is being released episode by episode.
I have all the stages. Up to this point, InitialD 4th Stage Episode 8 is the latest I have. Episode 9 and 10 will be due out within this week. Me cant wait to see...

Oh goody!!! I like anime. But only into stylish, bloody ones. Ones i like

2) Blood - The Last Vampire
3) Vampire Hunter D
4) Ghost in a shell: SAC
I also like Slayers and Ranma 1/2.
How is Initial D series??
I love mech in anime but too boring. Eg: Evangelion.....slept most of the time thru it!!

Ghost in the Shell
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex
Tonari No Totoro
Sen To Chihiro No Kamikakushi
I thought Neon Genesis Evangelion was gripping in terms of using the dark side of human emotions brewing dangerously in their 14 year old main characters. Plus the SEELE, NERV and the Angels' intrigue culminating in the Human Instrumentality Project was interesting.
Cowboy Bebop had interesting sci-fi situations interspersed by fantastic music by Yoko Kanno. People say that it's all jazz, but if you listen carefully Ms. Kanno composed and orchestrated everything from rock to middle-eastern to Wagnerian opera, which impressed the crap out of me.
Oh. And I still have yet to see Appleseed the Movie (2004). THe trailer looked fantastic.
Oh and not forgeting
1)Princess Mononoke
2)Spirited Away

so the comic version of anime is manga???
Robin Kok CH
12-17-2004, 11:47 AM
Yes, correct. Comic version of anime is the manga type.
Oh oh, a brief intro on InitialD. It is about streetcar racing on mountains.
I like this anime because it uses not only 2D animation but also uses 3D animation, especially in the racing part. So, it is like Gran Turismo racing but with the characters in 2D.
Check it out from http://www.geocities.com/go2initiald/main.html
You can even download it but only for the current ones.
They even have it on the arcade version. The PC version is not good.
Mainly I like it because it has 3D graphics animation in it as most or almost all the other anime I see is only in 2D.
Have fun.

I think RTM showed that Ramayana movie two consecutive Deepavalis in the 90s. It was in like 8.00am or something like that when everyone was still asleep.
Akira is the groundbreaking anime that crossed over to the west. The story is classic Katsuhiro Otomo. He's drawn several manga which features psi powers gone beserk like Domu and Fireball.
And oh, new Otomo movie coming out: Steam Boy (http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=18424).

I forgot about this one: Wonderful Days from Korea. Fantastic animation, CGI and music, even if the story is a bit tepid.
Whole world is polluted air, sea and land, except for the Sisil Island in the Pacific, where the remnants of civilization has established a city known as Ecoban. Unfortunately, the people of Ecoban has been oppressing the remained of the human civilization who lives outside of Ecoban.

Japanese anime is NOT all about blood, guts, and gore!
Sadly misrepresented - just because with anime, there are very few boundaries, and it got a lot of bad (or some would say good) press for showing so much violence
On the other end of the spectrum, you also have Rom/Com stories (romantic comedy) - like Kimagure Orange Road, Love Hina; adventure types - One Piece (pirates), Slayers, Detective Conan (mystery), Naruto (light hearted ninja-type); even strange ones about sports (Slam Dunk) and even bread-making (yakitate japan). Of course there are also the robots - like macross and gundam and eva. Don't forget that the notorious Doremon is also considered japanese anime.
And the list just goes on and on...

I just watched Akira... Brilliant. Now i can't wait for more Otomo movies. Are there anymore?
I went out and bought Ghost In The Shell 1&2, Memories, Tokyo Godfathers, and the entire studio Ghibli movies last weekend.
Next on my list is Cowboy Bebop, Millenium Actress and Metropolis. Also waiting for Steam-Boy and Miyazaki's new one.
Anime movies are light-years ahead of anything the western studios have ever produced (including their live action movies)... except maybe for Fight-Club.

Sounds like the same thing... three stories;
Magnetic Rose - about a salvage crew finding the tomb of an opera star in a space junkyard.
Stink Bomb- about some guy who took some medicine by accident and started to stink
Cannon Fodder - A parallel world (i think) where the only industry seems to be making weapons and waging war against an unseen enemy.

sci-fi is really cool... that's why i think i like anime. Most of them are like really cool sci-fi stories... in a visual form.
My problem with anime sometimes is the dream like story line. Eg: I would love it if i can get pass the floating like character in Evangelion. Half the time, that kid piss me off by acting like a drama-queen!!!

I have the same problem with some of their movies as well... like Kairo. The explanation for the appearence of ghosts sounds ridiculous.
I have this theory that the japanese "sense" of logic or reality is different from the western views... Maybe that's why we cannot seem to make sense of their stories.
For instance, there are somethings about our own cultures (chinese or indian) that, try as we may, we can never seem to explain to a orang-puteh. And they brand us primitive for thinking like that.

There's this book by Arthur C Clarke, "Childhood's End" which is about the next step in man's evolution... The ending sequence is almost like Akira. But Books can get into the skin and thoughts of the characters, thus they can explain better motivations and reasoning. That book's ending made sense and because of that it was haunting... and disturbing. (Hollywood is making a movie out of it, but i doubt they'll be able to do justice). You should try it, guarantee you'll love it. Very short, about 200 pages.
Akira's ending is wierd and abstract... Probably only Otomo understands it.

extracts from people on amazon.com:
"I generally don't cry at movies. I love any movie that can move me enough to shed a tear or two. Grave Of the Fireflies is not one of those movies. In those movies even though I'm sad the final scenes leave me with a residual hope that while some tragic event has just occured the charecters involved will grow and live better. Grave of the Fireflies doesn't do this. There is no hope or possiabilty of things getting better. This is Life at it's cruelest. Life that will never get better. This movie doesn't move you, it shatters you."
- Ian Krupnick
"Graves of the Fireflies" is an unforgettable film, one which will reduce most viewers to tears if not outright sobbing. Watching it is a painful experience, but then a film depicting the horrors of war and showing what happens to young children is supposed to have that effect. Viewing it a second time makes the experience even more intense (you probably will not catch what Setsuko's last words are the first time through, but be prepared for what it will do to you when you watch the film again). You will never, ever forget this film and you should be very, very careful about showing it to younger children, because it will change forever what they think about animated films. It will do that for you as well."
- Lawrence M. Bernabo
The saddest part is its based on a true story...
I think a lot of people only think anime as cartoon...but its more about story at the end of the day!!!

Kages
Each village has a Kage. A Kage is like a governor; he/she runs their village. There are a total of 5 Kages. The Kage is usually the strongest person in the village. Each Kage is chosen by it's villagers to rule and command it's army of ninjas and regulate the village. Kages manage most of important issues that relate to the village such as money and anything else a normal governor would do. They are public icons and are usually in public events held within the village.
and also, the list of Kages in different villages..
Hokage
Hokage is the name of the Kage of the Leaf Village. Hokage translates to: Fire Shadow
Kazekage
Kazekage is the name of the Kage of the Sand Village. Kazekage translates to: Wind Shadow
Raikage
Raikage is the Kage of the Lightning Village. Raikage translates to: Lightning Shadow

Mizukage is the Kage of the Water Village. Mizukage translates to Water Shadow
Tsuchikage
Tsuchikage is the Kage of the Earth Village. Tsuchikage translates to Earth Shadow.

cartoons or anime is a part of a normal gal/boy's childhood.. if u ask me who hates or don't watch anime at all i'd say maybe that person is a total nerd OR maybe he/she is so poor until got no tv (but this doesn't mean he/she hates anime).
anyway, anime for a kid is 'entertaining' some sorts of like drama series for adults if u get what i mean. but sometimes a grown-up kid still loves anime mainly because they still find it entertaining (compared to some lovey dovey drama series) and MAYBE they still young inside :)

always like this one la. always beginning very nice, follow 100% manga one. then half way it'll differs for half a year then maybe come back to original story line again. maybe they want to make sure the anime dont catch up to manga that fast lo. 1 episode of anime is about 2-2.5 episodes of manga..
is shaman king fully out? i mean the anime is all out dy?? then might want to go download.
nowadays u can get some really cheap original animes during some sales.. book outlets like popular or mph sometimes during sales will sell those old classis animes very cheap. bought mospeada last year i think

walau.... did not log in for a few days and see what happened ><... got cucuk from behind kau kau... sorry. my error... should have been gigabytes ^^
no lar... i cannot do side income coz by now most of my collection can also be bought from shops in Lau Yat Plaza. I have friends who download like crazy during their uni years and i used to ronda the area around KL every few weeks from Wangsa Maju to Petaling Jaya to Putrajaya to visit these friends of mine to borrow whatever they download and to burn a copy for myself... after 1-2 year of doing so, only the Malaysian pirate community caught up with what my friends have been doing and started selling dvds containing the fansubs. So for some time whatever fansub anime available in the Malaysian market, i already have... After i graduate, i stopped collecting so the later ones i do not have and by now these are already available in the market. So no need to look for me what, can either buy yourself or just download if your connection is good.
There are a few manner of obtaining anime online. On is direct file download... very rare. Normally people download via bittorrent or via MIRC.
The fansub stuff is much nicer than the officially licenses translation as the fansub has better quality control while the official translated stuffs are usually translated from Chinese.... soo... it is bad in term of quality.

Kiki's Delivery Service (1989) --- about a trainee witch
Only Yesterday (1991) --- a bit dull... about a teacher remembering her childhood
Porco Rosso (1992) --- pig in a plane flying in world war I era...
The Ocean Waves (1993) --- did not watch
Pom Poko (1994) --- about raccoons if i am not mistaken with message about environment conservation

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984, pre-Ghibli) --- this is superb!! enjoyed it very much. Best of the lot!!
Grave of the Fireflies (1988) ---too sad for my liking
My Neighbor Totoro (1988) --- this is superbly cute. very girly show
Kiki's Delivery Service (1989) --- this is only so-so for me.
The Ocean Waves (1993) --- watched only the starting..stopped to make way for Gar Loon to watch his other movies. starting was alright. Male lead instead of the female lead Hayao Miyasaki likes to do
Whisper of the Heart (1995) --- Bob's fav? hehe. Nice love story but i like Cat return better
Princess Mononoke (1997) --- this is nice!!!
Spirited Away (2001) --- this is also nice
The Cat Returns (2002) --- sequel to Whisper of the Heart
Howl's Moving Castle (2004) --- THIS ROCKS!!!

Hayao Miyazaki rulez OK!!
i like Totoro, Spirited Away and Howls Moving Castle. when we first got the DVD collection, cavebaby wanted to watch the movies several times a day - her favourites are Totoro, Laputa, Porco Rosso and Whisper of the Heart.
capt caveman has given up hope with us.........

hey people
thanks for your reply and reviews too. arigato gozaimasu. read the review too late though coz i was in penang over the weekend and saw the whole studio ghibli DVD collection on sale. all 14 movies i think, so i just grabbed it :) so far, i've watched princess mononoke and grave of the fireflies. the first one's nice, but the latter, i've gotta agree with athena, too sad for my liking as well... i was sincerely hoping for at least a happy ending as with most cartoons...and yes, both spirited away and howl's moving castle ROCKS! :)
last week i was down with flu and fever for a few days and had a marathon watching reruns of Samurai X, including the OVA series. This has got to the one of the best animes around, in my opinion.
I think naruto and bleach are not only popular in Malaysia but all over the world. brother was in the US when he caught the fan bug and husband was in Australia then too. all are naruto followers, so naturally i caught the bug too :)
by the way, anime fans would also know of Full Metal Panic right? do you agree that Full Metal Panic: Overload is the funniest anime of all times?
whoops, sorry, i can go on and on about animes...

this manga is quite bloodied type.. with heads and bodies exploding when acupunture type of kungfu is performed.. haha..

i think the name is fist of the north star. the guy with 7 puncture scars on his chect and can me ppl explode/die in ultra violent ways. yes, there is an anime based on the manga. but i not sure which studio released that. its been a long time since i watched it. and oh, btw, the anime version is a much watered down in violence...which kinda kills the feel of the manga.

Quinz was the one who started watching, then her little sis got
addicted too. I had to lock that channel during week days to
prevent my little gal from watching, cos' she'll neglect her
homework and stayed glued to that channel.:squeeze:
Weekends and hols, she's free to watch them. :D

my fren recommended to me 2 anime. she said its very good. i watched it and it is very good. try searching for Kekkaishi and Nodame Cantible. another anime which i find interesting is Darker than Black. a sci-fi type. Kekkaishi literally means Barrier User, and its a story about a boy who fights monsters in his school. Nodame is a must for classical music lovers as it chronicles the life of a violinist who aspires to be a world class conductor. his muse is a women named Noda Megume (hence nodame).
