For me, SUCCESS is progressively going after a worthy objective of your own choice without giving up, hindering, slandering, injuring others and violating the laws of God.
To be honest, I am still far from it! :(

To me, success means the following...
1. Trust God
2. Stay healthy
3. Happy family (kids, husband-wife relationship, close relationship with relatives, etc)
4. Good career, not necessary to be at the top level
5. Having friends (I mean real friends)
...and many more.

success is having purpose in life. If you have purpose u can always work towards a goal. This gives you motivation and hope which is at the core of our existance. Ppl don't survive very long without hope. Thats prob why most ppl who are already rich in life feel so depressed. Their goal was to get rich and they have that so what else is left.

Set some goals/objectives to achieve, work legacy (if u do research work..u also do publication)..:) Oh yes, richness in financial aspect doesn't really buy everything.

success can mean many things to me. simply put, success is when i feel happy with everything i do, no matter how insignificant or temporary it is.
like when i made a depressed fren smile/laugh, helped my mum with a new n tricky recipe, solved d latest sudoku puzzle, beat a fren at chess, swam 20 laps in time limit, etc etc...
but success cud also mean major changes in my life such as passing final exams, getting d job/raise i wanted, bought my own house/car, marry d guy i love, etc etc...
in short, if on my deathbed years n years down d road, i can say "I have lived a good life", then i am successful in my own right. :)

maybe i'm being idealistic, or naive, or just living in pollyanna world...
it would be great to have money, as that means freedom to pursue what i want to pursue...
success for me is to reach the best potential within my ability...
success for me is not to compare how well someone is doing...
success for me is to be happy that i have done well, and will continue to do so...
success for me is not to discriminate but to be fair in all endeavours...
success for me is to be able to use what i have to one day helping those who need it...

Enjoy The Coffee.
A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.
When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. Be assured that the cup itself, adds no quality to the coffee in most cases, just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink.
What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... and then began eyeing each other's cups.
Now consider this: Life is the coffee, and the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of Life we live.
Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee provided us."
The Spirit brews the coffee, not the cups..........enjoy your coffee

Coffee, Anyone ????
A Professor stood before his Philosophy class and had some items in front of him.
When the class begin, he pick up a large glass jar and fill it with golf balls.
He then ask the class, if the jar was full.
The students agreed that it was.
He then pick up a box of peebles and poured them into the jar and shook it lightly.
He ask again the class, if the jar was full.
The student again agreed that it was.
The professor next pick up a box of sand and again poured them into the jar and shook it lightly again.
He ask the class again, if the jar was full.
The student unanimously responded with a 'yes'.
With a smile, the professor produced cups of coffee and poured the contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand.
I think the jar is full now, said the professor and the whole class laughed.
Now, lets say this jar represents life.
Golf balls are important things, God, Family, Health, Friends and things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
The peebles are the other things that matter like Job, House and the Car. The sand is everything else ... the smaller stuff.
If you put the sand into the jar first, according to the professor, there will be no room for pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes with life. I f you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play with your kids.
Take time for medical check ups.
Take your family out for dinner.
Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter.
Set your priorities.
The rest is just sand.
One of the students raised his hand and asked wht the coffee represented.....
The wise old professor smiled.
" I am glad that you asked".
"It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there is always room for a cup of coffee with a friend or two."

....and Scott Wesley Brown sang it beautifully in one his album. I love this song and thank you monay, for reminding me. :)
HE IS NO FOOL
I've lost track of all the Sundays
The offering plates gone by
And as I gave my hard earned dollars
I felt free to keep my life
I talk about commitment
And the need to count the cost
But the words of a martyr show me
I don't really know His cross
Chorus:
For he is no fool
Who gives what he cannot keep
To gain what he cannot lose
Yes, he is no fool
Who lays his own life down
I must make this the path I choose
Obedience and servanthood
Are traits I've rarely shown
And the fellowship of His sufferings
Is a joy I've barely known
There are riches in surrendering
That can't be gained for free
God will share all heaven's wonders
But the price He asks is me.

Even if you are earning sgd 30K per month, but if you are not able to do what you like to do due to factors like time constraint, work commitment ...or if things that are important to you (ie relationship between family, friends, co-worker) need to be sacrificed...i don't think that it success!! So, monetary gain alone is not a measurement of success...

wow! what is success? that's a difficult question...=)
i think to me, success is learning to love and be loved, in relationship with God, self, and others.
the phrase 'he is no fool' by jim elliot... here's another song based on those words. it's by twila paris i think. erm, it's from a christian perspective, no offense to those of other faiths... but i think no matter where we're coming from, it's a good reminder that not everything that matters can be counted, and not everything that can be counted matters (that's a quote from Albert Einstein).
there once was a man born of high circumstance
heir to advantage, he had every chance to succeed
but light from the Cross made his dreams appear small
and to their amazement, he followed the call
for love of his Saviour, for one priceless jewel
they could not understand, so they called him a fool...
chorus:
he is no fool, if he would choose
to give the things he cannot keep, to gain what he can never lose
to seek a treasure in one's soul that far outshines the brightest gold
he is no fool, he is no fool
there once was a boy who could run like the wind
given to lead, every man was his friend at the line
but light from the cross made his race appear small
and to their surprise, he went far from it all
for love of his Saviour, for one priceless jewel
they could not understand, so they called him a fool...
chorus
bridge:
show me the fool who abandons his life
to walk in the steps of our Lord, Jesus Christ
chorus and end.

To talk about success, this excerpt of a song still touches me tho'......(by an Irish songwriter named Robin Mark)
When it’s all been said and done,
There is just one thing that matters--
Did I do my best to live for truth?
Did I live my life for God?
When it’s all been said and done,
All my treasures will mean nothing.
Only what I’ve done for love’s reward
Will stand the test of time.

ah those are immature actions of an immature mind mah...
the real filthy rich smartasses are ppl like donald trump who seems to have a bottomless bank account, a gorgeous model for a wife, impressive mansions/skyscrapers/hotel/casino/etc.
but then again, he obviously measures success with d dollar sign and anything else probably doesnt matter to him.
kaypoh fella, why u wanna know?

psychologists postulate that people keep the hairstyle they have at the height of their prime, when they feel they're most successful...
and if you look at trump, he had had this hairstyle since his 20s/30s... bad combover though....
