did you know, if you put Random Statement in google, you get a whole bunch of technical websites? sort of funny, really.

anyway, i just had a hard day at work and my kepala also sakit and i just need a nap. my morning was fine - busy prepping for a 3 hour meeting in the afternoon. the 3 hour meeting worked fine too. but from 4-6 was just 1 headache after another...

how's everyone else today?

here's a random fact:
in an average lifetime a person will walk the equivalent of three times around the world.

here's some other interesting facts:
- whilst we share around 98% of our DNA with chimps, we also share 50% with bananas and 60% with chickens. So, if an animal activist pisses you off to much, just tell them you're a member of the BLO (Banana Liberation Organisation) or the CLO.
- this will be my last day on the forum for a while. flying off on sat morning and spending the whole day tomorrow at the cricket - Australia v Pakistan. YAY!

well, happy travels then. i'm actually going to key west for a few days to get out of this friggin freezing weather. my clients take the week of xmas-new year as mandatory holiday - i'm not supposed to work. might as well cabut and do some snorkeling or something.

traditionally, there are 2 kinds of cricket:
- test cricket - 1 over is 6 balls. 90 overs a day for 5 days or when each team has batted twice, unless one team gets such a high score that they only need to bat once. this is the cricket that the die-hard purists like.
- one-dayers - 50 overs a side. lasts about 8 hours.
there's a new kind being trialled now to fit in with the modern world called 20/20. 20 overs per side, but that is just pure smashing the ball and seeing how lucky you are. test cricket is real cricket, which require skill, technique, stamina and bravery.

DAYS!! isn't it?
the test match in perth started today. when i go tomorrow, it'll be for the second day. from 10:30am to 6pm.

one of the first international tests ever was between a side from philadelphia and a touring english side in phillie...i think that was 18something...

the role of test cricket captain is considered the number job in australia, ahead of prime ministed. in fact, johnnie howard has joked before that he wasn't good enough for the number 1 job, so he had to make do with no.2.

so euj, is it the "One-dayers" that is played for the world championship or world cup of cricket (or whatever that competition is called). we go to this indian restaurant in ohio ALL the time - and last year they rented a huge TV and satellite dish and at 3 AM our time the restaurant was full of indian and pakistani cricket enthusiasts. i did chat with the waiter who was organising this and had watched some of the highlights of the india-pakistan game.

yup, the world cup is played in one-day format. it's very popular amonst the lay enthusiast and women. also very popular in the sub-continent, but amongst true cricket fans, test matches which take 5 days, is the real thing cos they require proper technique and more strategy.

Sila

i suppose logistically, if you have a match be days and days, and not be able to schedule the competition, you have to make some adjustments to account for players not able to take 3 months off work to come and wait their turn to play cricket. but i understand where your purist point of view is coming from. i have gotten more into the game of baseball now but of course baseball is played from april-october so the season's over.

there are less than 10 countries with test status and they are professional, full-time players - england, australia, pakistan, india, sri lanka, bangladesh, zimbabwe, south africa, new zealand, west indies - i think that's it.

as a closing, here's some stuff i am wondering, a survey of sorts, perhaps:

* What is your favorite breakfast food?

* What is the 1 show on TV that you cannot miss??

* How often do you wash (shampoo) your hair?

* If you had to pick between saving a tree and saving a turtle, which one would you pick?

* Do you think sila is sleep deprived?

* cricket or baseball?

:)

thats shitake you talking about...

Ashitaka is a character from Princess Mononoke... a brilliant Japanese animated movie.

I'll have my answers for the surver by tmrw...

Sila
12-16-2004, 01:48 PM
i actually saw Princess Mononoke, i think must've 4-5 years ago! it was quite good. unfortunately i don't really remember much of it anymore. memory no good laa

dreamwh

memory still good... normally its the recall that doesn't function properly. That can be corrected... I'm experimenting on that now.

Rayhong
12-16-2004, 02:00 PM
* What is your favorite breakfast food?
anything that falls into the category called 'food'. doesn't really matter to me. for me, it's more, 'what's the craziest thing you ever had for breakfast?' and my answer to that would be a leftover t-bone, medium well :)

* What is the 1 show on TV that you cannot miss??
CSI

* How often do you wash (shampoo) your hair?
every night

* If you had to pick between saving a tree and saving a turtle, which one would you pick?
dunno, but remind me of a post linkin put up, you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant... what do you do?

reminds me of a plot from CSI (although it's not related), (NOT MIAMI cause miami sucks)- goes something like this, a man gets shot, stumbling across the street he gets knocked by a car, he gets up, run's into a burning house, and the roof beam falls on his head. what killed him?

* Do you think sila is sleep deprived?
sleeping is a total waste of time

* cricket or baseball?
hmmm... between the devil and the deep blue, i would have to say cricket!

dreamwh
12-16-2004, 02:11 PM
* What is your favorite breakfast food?
Either my mother's Nasi Lemak or Wantan Mee Kicap

* What is the 1 show on TV that you cannot miss??
The Apprentice - Trump is God! You're Fired...

* How often do you wash (shampoo) your hair?
Every morning shampoo+conditioner... Every Wednesday and Saturdays, shampoo+conditioner+intensive moisturising treatment+serum infusion.

* If you had to pick between saving a tree and saving a turtle, which one would you pick?
The turtle, because i kesian the lembab fella... but if they were both being harmed by a human, I'll whack the human. Case settled

* Do you think sila is sleep deprived
I opine 5 hours of sleep a day is sufficient... Sea Hing once told me 4 is enough, but then Sea Hing is CRAZY...

* cricket or baseball?
Baseball, at least I understand the game.

* What is your favorite breakfast food?
the one i eat everyday is instant oats, but if i had a choice it would be any cooked asian dish like mee goreng.
* What is the 1 show on TV that you cannot miss??
cricket when australia is playing.
* How often do you wash (shampoo) your hair?
everyday. been trialling every other day cos i heard every day is bad for the hair.
* If you had to pick between saving a tree and saving a turtle, which one would you pick?
turtle, since it's a creature rather than just a plant. plus can save it for later cos it's probably tastier too.
* Do you think sila is sleep deprived?
from the sounds of it, probably, but i am too. i usually sleep about 1am too. very bad. my new year resolution is to sleep by 10pm.
* cricket or baseball?
did you have to ask?

* How often do you wash (shampoo) your hair?
Daily

* If you had to pick between saving a tree and saving a turtle, which one would you pick?
TURTLE!!! i am the queen of the turtles, after all. death to treess!

* Do you think sila is sleep deprived?
deprived!

* cricket or baseball?
baseball (i'm with dreamwh on this - at least i understand baseball and i don't want to watch something for days on end... 9 innings is quite enough)

i have 1. it is a non-fiction book (very rare for me to not be reading fiction).

Reading Lolita in Tehran, author Azar Nafisi.

REALLY good book, eye opening and valuable for us to read, given our country background.

dream, here's a few writers who's a bit screwball (fiction). read Jennifer Government and Syrup by Maxx Barry. it's cool, funny and hip. also, read any book by Chuck Palahniuk (he wrote Fight Club). really good stuff, man. another good one is The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde (spelled with 2 f's)

Can't seem to find Fight Club over here, someone said its probably banned... but funny thing i can find all his other books.

Fight Club is one of my all-time favourite movies. Even Chuck Palahniuk said in an interview the movie version tied-up some of the themes(?) better than the book.

My all time favourite books are actually Outline of History (out of print) by HG Wells and Dragons of Eden by Carl Sagan... both non-fiction. I read mostly non-fiction now...
