Sugar cane is a giant member of the Gramineae, the grass family, often growing up to six metres tall. Its closest living cousins are maize, rice, and sorghum, but sugar cane looks like bamboo - a long, thick stem joined in segments like an insect's leg. Some are thick burgundy with the midnight-grey galucous bloom of a plum, or vermillion, with turquoise joints; others are flushed pink, with a pearly suffusion at the end of each segment, the colour of a crustacean's inner claw. Yet another variety can be mustard yellow, tinged with the brown of dying leaves.
Wild sugar cane, Saccharum spontaneum, looks more like grass with low sugar content.
But the grass that changed the world sugar economy was Creole. the creole cane is a freak of nature - it's sterile; it cannot survive without human help, susceptible to disease and, above all, its thick, segmented stem is packed full of sucrose!
Most plants store their energy by converting glucose to starch to tide them through harsh months. Very few plants store glucose as sucrose, a more complex sugar, which is the sandy-type of sugar we buy in packets Sucrose is an odd choice as a means of storing excess energy in sugar cane because it has to be dissolved and held in liquid form.

Sugar in sugar cane & sugar are similar but different. Am I right? Sugar in general(white sugar) is a processed food, some say it's toxic, you google and see. Sugar in sugar cane is natural. Natural doesn't mean good as well.

Yalor...we got so many sugarcanes in front of our houses in S'wan...why no one did this experiment?
Drago...if successs, you can start selling red sugarcane, purple sugarcane, spicy sugarcane...
But i do drink before salty sugarcane...tasted weird. People said if you grow sugarcane on burnt soil, you'll get salty sugarcane...must be excess of sodium there. Yeah..the salty sugarcane i've tasted was grown in burnt soil.

This is referring to grass family. The grass for marijuana is like a bahasa kasar for the drug because it smell like "toasted grass". I smelled it before...during one pharmacology module..in univ.

I prefer brown sugar or those rock sugar bought from the herbal shop...my opinion. Don't go for those artificial, low calory sweetener..the aspartame..this is not natural sugar.
Of course, too much natural sugar is never good..likewise too much of eating is no good either. Eat and drink in moderation. Never too extreme..everything we do, we eat and action taken too extreme has its own consequence/s.:)

Here is another stuff about sugar cane I want to share. Do give your discussion, critic, comment, opinion, etc.:)
Sugar has been described as a medicine in ancient days. Has been one of substance in medicinal ingredients. A necessity, a kind of drug for soothing and sort of. But its tale is one of both life and death -- sugar is in every cell of our bodies. Remember for phosphate transfer in ATP production, sugar has been the substrate for cellular metabolism and activity. Our DNA contains ribose sugar..precursor derived from glucose.
Humans are all dependent on sugar for centuries, but it also responsible for the enslavement and death of millions of people. It is the root of one of today's most serious health problems...obesity!:)

Our lust or rather say desire for sugar for its sweetness has changed the shape of global economy, culturally and socially.
Even in Milton's Paradise Lost....honey, nectar and ambrosia ..dined by gods and goddess..:) :) . All for the desire of sweetness.
The juice of the sugar-cane, if the stalk is chewed with the aid of the teeth, increases the body cooling, purges the intestines, promotes nutrition and corpulency and excites the phlegm. ...from Charaka, in Charaka-Samhita, AD 78.:)

I shoould think the Bak kut teh soup should be ok..make sure put enough garlic to brew. Warfarin is an anticoagulant..I would recommend only for post operative patient, especially those undergone heart surgery. If not, rather take aspirin..reduce platelet stickiness (too sticky promotes thrombus formation).
