Rudy and Joo-bong predict narrow win for Malaysia

TWO former badminton greats – Indonesian Rudy Hartono and South Korean Park Joo-bong – have predicted a narrow win for Malaysia over Denmark.

Both agreed that a Lee Chong Wei victory in the first match against Peter Gade-Christensen would make all the difference for Malaysia.

Rudy, who is the Indonesian team manager, said: “This is the year of Lee Chong Wei. I think he is one of the players who have adapted quite well to the new scoring format (21x3).

“If he beats Peter, Malaysia have a chance to win 3-2. Malaysia's second doubles (Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah) and third singles (Kuan Beng Hong) have the slight edge (over the Danes).”

Joo-bong, the former coach of the Malaysian team who is now with Japan, gave Malaysia a slight edge.

“It will be very close. Chong Wei and (Mohd) Hafiz (Hashim) have been playing well here. They have to be mentally strong in their match tomorrow,” he said.

“Malaysia also can win a point through Tan Fook-Wan Wah. Denmark's sure point will come from their All-England men doubles champions (Jens Eriksen-Martin Lundgaard Hansen).”

I certainly hope so. Based on both players current form, I rate Chong Wei's chance as 65-35 to win. If he wins, then lesser pressure on Hafiz to deliver (which he is the underdog). If Chong Wei loses, then bring in all the bomohs.

As for graduates earning in the first year.....they earn more with experience...badminton only for 10 yrs or so only...not so mega bucks yet...
I know of a national player, mother and father have to buy car for him to use cos he doesn't make enough from his badminton.....

But either way, I think makes not much difference... maybe?? :D

WCH - not too bad, did quite well in his SPM, now pursuing his degree at HELP. The rest, I hear are putting things on hold first..c whether they can make it...if not mah just go into coaching lor...hearsay!!!

Training starts 6 AM and go to class at 9AM. How to study. Most of the time they are sleepy. So, they only take minimal subjects to get pass SPM. But, these players are quite smart to opt for badminton rather than studies b'cos thye make lots of money.

If you can make RM3 million before 30yo. Then, earn about Rm5K per month. Will you take this gamble?

dunno??? gamble is too risky??? for one you have to be in that pool. And how many get there? 3 million before 30 is a nice figure but after that you stop earning that sort of sum leh....compare that to say somebody who starts making 120 K annually and this figure will keep increasing after 30 and continue right until 56....and can continue some more. It's a case of earning more later in years but it keeps increasing...For sports it's the other way round...
So unless you are in Michael Schumacher or Ronaldinho's league......


I met many teachers who taught these stars in the school. Most of them gave std comment for these players..... cannot concentrate in class due to exhaustion from training.
