So I still remember the day I picked up Yogi. He's this tiny little thing in his crate, weights about 7 lbs. Now, after 3 months, he's such a big boy, weighs about 14lbs. But he's still just a baby inside. You know the song lyrics, "everywhere you go, I go"? Well, that describes him. Ig I go upstairs, he'll go upstairs, if I go downstairs, he'll go downstairs, such a glue :). Anyway, here's the new pics of him.

If you notice, Yogi only has one look on his face. Expressionless is how I'll describe him. You have to look at his tail to know whether he's happy or nervous. When we take him out for a night walk, his tail always droop low (not saber) because he's nervous. It's kinda funny because the moment we reach home, his tail will jump up saber like. I just heard a sort of bad news from my daycare, the one I sent Yogi to. Apparently one of his K9 is loose and there's a slight cut on his gum. Must be from playing with other dogs. I hope he's fine but I'll take him to the vet after work just to check it out. He's just 5 months old so hopefully it's just his baby tooth falling out.:sad-2:

hahaha, give it a try and I'll ask my hubby to drop a boulder on you :). Well, we knew he was really pricey but I thought he was $1500 at first and by then I was already in love with his dad (Yogi's dad is da cutest dog on earth) and I want one just like him. Then we found out that he's a multi-gen dog so he would cost $2500 instead. My heart was already set so no turning back. So we burnt a big hole in our pocket. You know, he comes neutered. I did try to save his 'balls' but the breeder said that that will cost me $7500 instead . I also found out that Maestro costs the breeder $12000. If you really have intention to use the dog as breeder it's a good investment I guess. The breeder has 7 puppies in one litter and I think she made more than $12000 already. i don't think I have the time and effort to go into dog breeding business. Maybe when I retired someday :).

Hmm, depend where you send the dog to. I sent him to the cheapest place which costs $39 (all inclusive) but he got a bad haircut there though so I'm thinking of sending him somewhere else next time. I got a quote for $50++ not including bath and nails. If bath and nails are done too, maybe addition $20. I think owning a dog is still much low cost than owning a kid though :).
$5000 to save his b*lls!!! Boy, that's expensive...
Err.. pardon me but what's multi gen? :o
daBoss
05-05-2006, 01:42 AM
hmmm... i'm confused...
he costs $2500 neutered... and if you don't neuter him, he costs $7500? the owner has to expend effort and it costs less? in any event, those figures you're putting in your post are crazy... cannot imagine spending so much money... :)
anyway, good that you seem to love your dog...

Yogi is a name that both my hubby and I came up with. I wanted Choco Cat, Choco as first name, cat as his middle name just to be funny. But obvious my hubby thought I was too silly. Yogies treat is a kind of treat with yogurt that I feed my ferrets. So I thought it would be funny to tell my ferrets to eat Yogies. Then my hubby said we can name him Yogi ~ Yogies ~ Yogi Bear. That's how his name became Yogi. And coincidently his daddy looks like a teddy bear, very very red color. And Yogi also kinda remind me of a stuffed teddy bear. So it all work well :).

haahaha, Yogi is actually kinda stupid sometimes. One of the trick I taught him is 'go to your rug'. So when I say that command, he should go to a rug that was allocated for him. He was really good at that too so one day I decided to move the rug to another corner. When I said 'go to your rug', he went right to the spot where it used to be. So stupid!! But I guess he's smart for a 5 months old puppy. I'll make sure I'll pat him later for you :).
cute puppy, joanne :D
we've been talking about getting one or two cats for house pets, but we aim to head down to the animal shelter and pick out a couple of kittens. my mother never let us have a pet growing up, so i'm looking forward to my own kitkats.. :D

Yeah, a cat will be a nice pet. I wanted a cat before too but my hubby said he's allergic to them (what an excuse) so then we ended up with ferrets and now a dog :). I cat sit for my friend one time and Snicker was such a cutie. I got sick one day and she came and lay next to me and kept me warm. Yogi likes to play with Snicker but I don't think they know how to play with each other :(. Snicker would just paw his face with her declawed front paw and Yogi would attack the tail :).

vin and i cat sat for 2 summers in a row (his ex-cats) and i just fell in love with them. we haven't gotten our own cats because we've such a travel schedule planned and feel like it would be a bad thing to get a couple of kittens and leave them alone for weeks on end...

hahaha, Jerry, I don't think I have to worry about the buayas since I'm so far away and plus, my hubby will kick butts :). Yogi is a labradoodle, a mix of labrador retriever and poodle. Labradoodle suppose to be pretty smart consider both genes are smart dogs and also has the non-shedding hypoallergenic fur. Yogi doesn't shed at all and his fur is softer than my sheep skin fur *no kidding*.

Yogi is neutered because mummy couldn't afford to keep his balls :). Well, I think you can get a cheap dogs here in US especially when you go to the Humane Society. However, we wanted to get a dog from a breeder because the dogs are better in terms of genetic. Yogi comes with 2 year waranty on any genetic disease. He's well-breed to make sure that no in-breeding. Also, multi-gen dog has many generations of labradoodle in them so their characteristics are pretty much guranteed. If you have 1st gen of labradoodle, you might end up with a dog with more poodle or labrador gene instead. I still think dog is cheaper than kids :).

Well, when we first introduced them together, the ferrets were very afraid of Yogi. And Yogi would just love to chase them around. Well, that doesn't last very long. After 2 months, Lazie has became very brave and start dashing into Yogi's under belly and that really freak Yogi out. I think there's a couple occasion where Yogi got bitten by my ferrets too. Well, one time, Lazie went right under his belly and immediately Yogi froze up and his movements became very cautios and slowwww. I think he's trying to walk away from Lazie but Lazie just keep walking with him under his belly. We were laughing out heads off :D. So, right now, once again my Lazie is the alpha male in the house but of course the truth is I AM THE ALPHA MALE/FEMALE *wahahahahaha*.

So last week, we were at the Smith Rock area, walking with Yogi. This woman came to us and asked 'Is that a labradoodle?'. Turns out that she also just recently bought a labradoodle and guess what?? She bought it from the same breeder as us. Her puppy's mum is Lucy and dad is Maestro too. Lucy is Yogi's mum Abigail's mum. So, this puppy is technically speaking Yogi's uncle even though he's 5 months younger . I guess polygamist is ok in dog family :p .

Well, I was still in Oregon and the lady I met was also in Oregon so not that far away. I think people must have seen my dog very often at Smith Rock so they must have wanted one too. Everytime we took Yogi out, people always stop us and ask what kind of dog he is, thought he's the cutest dog in the world, etc :). So someone must have seen him and wanted one too.

So I've been feeding Yogi soft food because I think his teeth are bothering him so he hasn't been eating much lately. Yesterday around 5am, Yogi woke me up with his non-stop whining so I let him out to go potty and then let him back in the house, and then hopped onto my bed to sleep again. Yogi came in and slept with me too but constantly moving. When I woke up at 7am, I found this piles of poop on the carpet in my study room. And since he's been eating soft food, his poop is also soft... if you know what I mean . It was a pain cleaning it off my carpet. So, I learnt from my lesson again, never trust Yogi. Everytime I trusted him, he always disappointed me with me finding pee spot or poo laying around. Urghhh.....what a dumb dog.
Good thing that this morning I noticed one of his K9 is finally gone and he seems to be eating the dry food better now.

nice dog you have there! is it one of those designer dogs? becoming rather popular now. some called it crossbreed, hybrid or mixed breeds although the newfangled term is 'designer' :D
is he toilet trained yet? i think perhaps you can try to crate him at night to prevent the problems. he's not a dumb dog...just haven't got the rope of it yet since still a pup :)

Yes, he's the new hybrid dog :). Actually he's pretty well potty-trained. The problem is if none of us are paying attention to him, he won't be able to get out and he would be force to do his business anywhere in the house (we don't have the doggy door :(). Well, I also think Yogi might be having diarrhea becuase of maybe some bugs that he caught. Yesterday when we got home from work, we smelled something really really bad and right away my hubby was like 'I think Yogi poop in his crate' and we confirmed it right away. We had to take him out to the yard and washed him down good using cold water. It was a real mess both him and the crate. And the whole night yesterday he woke us up with his whining and we were so worried that he would poop in his crate again so we kept woking up and take him out. So today, I'm going to take him in to the vet to get him checked up.

Poor Yogi. How is he now? What did the vet say? Usually diarrhea could be due to viruses, food or even stress. As long as there is no blood in the stool and no vomiting then its probably ok to watch for a day or two to see if the condition resolves by itself.
As a general rule, when diarrhea, it is better to fast them for a while rather than just switching to different food. No food and only water for 12 -18 hrs will not harm and will allow the gut to settle. If the stool is just a little loose, adding a bit of pumpkin (can get canned ones) to meals may help.
Perhaps you may want to try paper training him or getting a pee-pad/litter box if you don't have so much time to take him out for business.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I took him to the vet yesterday and got some medicine for him. He's also on a bland food diet right now. Yesterday he starts to have more energy and keep jumping on us, wanting to play. Also didn't see any diarrhea issue so hopefully it won't come back. Jerry, you know, people nowadays treat their pets like kids you know :). Yogi is like my baby. Speaking of which, I don't know whether I'll ever want to have kids anymore or at least for a very long long time. They cause so much worry and stress.

So for the last few weeks, we have let Yogi roamed around at night freely without going to his crate because we were so sick of his 5.30am wake up call. He seems to be doing fine, most of the time he'll sleep with us on our bed and occasionally moved to another room (cooler maybe??). I was so proud of his because of his well-mannered until this morning. I found a patch of pee stained on the carpet. So now, I'm not sure whether we should put him back to the crate at night. It's a dilemma for me; to deal with his early morning whining or his pee pee issue. Hmm, what to do, what to do...

(sorry i'm clueless... when we had snuffles, he's left to run around the conservatory so it doesn't really matter if he peed coz the floor is wooden and no carpet!)

Well we have been training Yogi. I think there's really nothing we can do but constantly encouraging him to go outside for his business. He's really doing well but occasionally mistake happen :(. I've been thinking of doing major remodelling changing out the carpet to hardwood floor on my own. Got a quote from the contractor but cost too much so I think I'll do it myself. Maybe I'll take a before and after pic when I'm done and see how good or bad a job I will do :amused:

Here are some shots taken from the dog camp that Yogi attended when we were in Squamish. Yogi really enjoyed his vacation and the owner told us that he likes hanging out with the buffalo. They own a big farm with buffalo, llamas and horses separated from the dog with fences. Each time the buffalos rest under the shady tree by the dogs, Yogi always go over there and hang out with them *so cute*. Maybe I should buy him a buffalo :p.

So I figure out that dog must be the grossest thing on earth. We took Yogi to the Canon Beach last weekend (his first trip to the beach). We let him off leash occasionally and one time we saw him rubbing his body on the ground. Both of us was like 'oh no, it better not be poo'. When I walked closer I saw that he was rubbing his body on this dead bird, yuck!!! So gross!!!

You know Jerry, if it's her phobia then you can't do anything about it. I have huge phobia on reptiles (house lizard to snakes) and I just can't stand even being a few meters away from them. Sometime when Matt and I got rock cllimbing and hike around, we will occasionally see snakes. Matt will just walk around it and told me to do the same and I will be freaking out and start crying begging him to turn around. Well, the problem is sometimes turning around = walking extra 5 miles. He thinks snakes are not dangerous and won't attack unnecessarily except the only thing I have in my mind is that the snake will jump on me and attack me :). Anyway, the whole phobia thing is just way too complicated so I can understand why somebody will not like animal.
