The Champagnes are popped and the trophy remains in Stamford Bridge.. Chelsea 3 Man Utd 0
The Chelsea played like Champions today and they deserved to win and to be crowned EPL Champion of 2005/2006 at home ground.
Man Utd got lots of soul searching to do and need to pick themselves up again. Man Utd did not take their chances, Chelsea did. Difficult to play Chelsea at home and the record stays tonite.
Agony for Man Utd and England with Rooney injuring his right leg. I hope it is not as bad and will play in the World Cup. England needs Rooney!!

What a dissappointing game last nite? Draw 0-0 with M'boro. Indeed it wasn't the best performance of Man Utd to watch. RVN missed a penalty. All players did not performed up to expectation. :(
Now is down to the last game for second spot. Man Utd needs to win this Sunday against Charlton to secure second spot. Hopefully Liverpool will lose as well.

we can only wait and see what will happen to Ruud. Don't put your hopes too high though. He has shown dis-respect to the manager and the club by walking out on them.
Looking at the bright side. I am very excited about Giuseppe Rossi. He is very ruthless, has lots of pace and capable of scoring on both feet. I can see he will play a big part next season. And how good is it to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back playing as a striker. Remember, you don't become a bad striker overnight. It is just unfortunate that he has sustained a few injuries over the years. Don't forget...we also saw Paul Scholes playing in that game against Charlton. :D :D :D

whatever it is, RVN is a great scorer....150 goals in 5 seasons.... a great record indeed...i just hope he won't leave....Rossi is talented but still raw...
Its good to see Scholes bek and good to see Smudgey in the stand....but they do need to buy a midfield maestro....come on, go n get Riquelme....:)

'Ruud out after Ronaldo dad jibe'
09/05/06
More details emerged last night of the sensational training ground bust-up that has resulted in the seemingly inevitable departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy from Manchester United.
More details emerged last night of the sensational training ground bust-up that has resulted in the seemingly inevitable departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy from Manchester United.
The striker, available for £10m according to The Guardian, stormed out of Old Trafford on Sunday after finding out he had not been selected for United's 16 man-squad for their game against Charlton, the final match of the Premiership season, that afternoon.
At the time the club refused to comment, with Sir Alex Ferguson only saying afterwards that "a couple of incidents in training that concerned me in terms of the spirit of the club" had resulted in Van Nistelrooy's exclusion, and that he would discuss the Dutchman's future with club directors in the next 48 hours.
But the full extent of the disfavour the Dutchman has fallen into was not immediately clear.
According to The Independent, the "incidents in training" that Ferguson referred to were manifestations of the rapidly-deteriorating relationship between Van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo has been the subject of Van Nistelrooy's ire on a number of occasions, with the Dutchman critical of his Portuguese team-mate's tendency to hold onto the ball for too long - a trait Van Nistelrooy felt was costing both United and himself vital goals.
A training ground bust-up between the two in January ended with punches being thrown, and a second incident on Saturday morning reignited the ill-feeling between the two players.
During 'a heated exchange' Van Nistelrooy told the young Portuguese to go and talk to "his dad" - a disparaging reference, says The Independent, to United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz.
The remark carried particular sting, as Ronaldo lost his father in September - a bereavement that has been widely seen as responsible for the very loss of form earlier in the season that Van Nistelrooy was so critical of. A 'clearly upset' Ronaldo replied that he 'did not have a dad'.
Van Nistelrooy then arrived on Sunday having thought no more of the incident - only to be told that he was not included in the match-day squad. On hearing that, the Dutchman said to club captain Gary Neville: "Good luck for the game. I'm off."
Van Nistelrooy promptly took a taxi back to Old Trafford, where he picked up his car and drove straight to Manchester Airport before taking the next available flight to the Netherlands.
Van Nistelrooy has also failed to receive an invitation to take part in former team-mate Roy Keane's testimonial later this week, although whether that snub came before or after his actions over the weekend is unclear. It completes a remarkable fall from grace for a player considered for the club captaincy by Ferguson after the Irishman's high-profile departure.

That's not only sad but an absolutely disgrace for a great player like RVN.
He should have taken a leaf and follow after OGSolskjaer. As you know, OGS willingly sat on the subs bench but performed great heroics after heroics when he was called upon.

Lyon ready to do Diarra swap deal
Lyon may be prepared to do a deal with Manchester United for midfielder Mahamadou Diarra - in part exchange for striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The French champions are believed to want £25million for the 24-year-old, but club official Bernard Lacombe has indicated they may accept a cash-plus-player deal involving van Nistelrooy.
Can this deal go thru? RVN to play in France??

We need a couple of big name midfielders; that's for sure - whether it's from Lyon or elsewhere.........Nevertheless, I think RVN will go somewhere even if this deal doesn't go thru' if there's no patch up between him and SAF pretty soon.
Peter Schmeichel got the sack for arguing with SAF luckily he went on to apologize and the rest as they have said it's history.. We'll see if RVN would or could do the same...
I feel that RVN still has got 3 good years left in him..provided he keep his ego and big head in check..

I really have doubts that Diarra is that good because his partner in crime at Lyon, M.Essien is a flop at 24 million pounds...
Previously, our big names signing like Veron was a total flop too while our miserly investments for players like Keano 3.75, Cantona 1.2, OG Solskjaer 1.5 and Schmeichel 550,000 pound sterling was excellent pieces of business..
Let's hope that SAF can open up his eyes a bit and see some light because right after we lost both Brian Kidd and Steve McClaren, our choices have been pretty poor..as our tactics in some games.. that's for me down to CQueiroz...:(

Jerry,
To be fair - compare him to the rest of the players in his teams like Frank Lamps, John Terry, Geremi, Makelele - all costing less than Essien yet more influential on the field..
My point is - Essien is definitely overpriced - even Paul Ince on today terms would not be worth so much; and yet Essien did relatively little to decide the fate of EPL Championships in his midfield's role at 24 million pounds...
In short, he was there becos Abramovich is willing to meet his ex-club crazy valuation of a fairly good player while SAF would simply walked away....

Belfast Pay Tribute To Best
Belfast Airport has been renamed George Best International Airport in honour of the former United star who sadly died last year.
The honour, which was announced on the day Best would have celebrated his 60th birthday, was praised by family and friends alike.
"It's a wonderful accolade," his sister Barbara McNarry told MUTV. "It’s tinged with sadness for us but we’re giving George the best celebration that we can for what would have been a very special day for him."
Former Northern Ireland star and Celtic boss Martin O'Neill added: "I’ve heard people say George Best wasted his talent but he didn't, he brightened up everybody’s life.
"Even if it was only for 90 minutes on a Saturday, he would get people off their seats feeling as if they were there to witness something special."

The prolific Dutchman's Old Trafford career is in major doubt following his late-season bust-up with Sir Alex Ferguson.
Having just pocketed £30million for star striker Andriy Shevchenko, AC Milan are known to be in the market for a top quality forward and club officials have already expressed their admiration for van Nistelrooy.
Manchester United will tell potential bidders for Ruud van Nistelrooy to forget any notion of getting the Dutchman on the cheap.
How much is RVN worth now? Should he walk out of OT now??

Chelsea have agreed to pay £12million to Manchester United and £4million to Lyn Oslo to secure the services of John Obi Mikel.
The two Premiership sides, along with Mikel's current club Lyn Oslo, worked together to allow the Nigerian midfielder to join the current English champions after a bitter transfer dispute.
Damn, Chelsea is really splashing the money all over... To pay MU 12 mil just to take him to Stamford Bridge. Good deal for Man U tho. Just pray and hope that this so call wonder kid won't do so well in Chelski. :o
Now Chelsea got 2 new strikers (Kalou and Shevchenko) and one midfield (Ballack) in the bag. And still wants to get Ashley Cole and Roberto Carlos (2 left backs??)

Torres to complete titanic United trio
Fernando Torres could form a formidable strikeforce with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney at Manchester United next season. Reports indicate that Sir Alex Ferguson is closing in on a £25million deal for Spain international Torres. And it's understood Fergie has won the battle to land him.
Van Nistelrooy could be ready to stay at Old Trafford next season after all amidst reports the Dutch striker has buried the hatchet with Ferguson. According to reports, Ferguson had a long phone conversation with the striker on Monday from his villa in the south of France to settle their differences.
This is one good news if it is true.....:D

Ruud van Nistelrooy may be left out in the cold by Holland as well as Manchester United — after a training-ground bust-up with Dutch coach Marco van Basten. The United outcast played no part in Holland’s 1-0 second-round defeat by Portugal on Sunday because Van Basten was appalled by his attitude after being axed from the starting line-up. Van Basten made the decision because Van Nistelrooy refused to show any effort in Friday’s training after being told he would not start the game — and again showed a poor attitude in the pre-match warm-up.

SJ & Jerry,
To answer your questions on why Chelskis spoil market tactics - here the answer from the King Himself at ManUtd.com: -
Eric Predicts A Bright Future For United
Eric Cantona believes United will win more titles than Chelsea over the next ten years.
Cantona, who won four Championships during his four-and-a-years at Old Trafford, was the catalyst of United's decade of dominance and the Frenchman is backing the Reds to return to winning ways at the expense of rivals Chelsea.
Eric, talking exclusively to United Magazine, believes that United are planning for a brighter future, whereas the Blues are looking to buy immediate results.
“I’m sure United will come good. They are building a team for the future whereas Chelsea are building a team for today and maybe the next one or two years,” he admitted.
“Year after year they will buy player after player after player and sometimes it will work and sometimes it won’t. I think you are stronger when you build a team or a generation of players who can play together for ten years.
"That’s why I believe United will win more Championships than Chelsea in the next ten years, I’m sure of that.”
Eric also paid tribute to the men at the helm of both clubs - Sir Alex and Jose Mourinho.
“They are both winners and psychologically very strong," he explained. "That is very important in terms of the influence they have on their players and the way in which they deal with the press and the provocation from the press.
“They are both very good at knowing what to say, when to say it and why they need to say it. That can be very important, perhaps even as important as the way their teams play because when they say things the media attention is on them and not the players so the players can play without pressure.”
The full interview with Eric, in which he reveals his desire to one day manage the Reds, is in this month’s issue of United Magazine which is out on 1 July.

Wayne Rooney reportedly attempted to charge into Portugal's dressing room to confront Cristiano Ronaldo after England's bitter World Cup exit.
The Manchester United striker was incensed at the role of his club team-mate in his sending off and has reportedly vowed to "split him in two".
According to The Daily Mirror, a 'blazing mad' Rooney had to be restrained by his England team-mates before being bundled on to the team bus following the Three Lions' defeat on penalties.
But Rooney's fury was still threatening to explode the next morning. The Sun quotes an 'England insider' declaring: "At breakfast in the hotel this morning, Wayne said he would split him in two and smack him in the head. Who can blame him?
"He is determined to settle the score in his own way and there is nothing anyone can do about it."
Regardless of Ronaldo's involvement, Rooney's dismissal was sparked by an apparent loss of discipline when his frustration boiled over.
Ronaldo's future at Old Trafford seems less than certain, and following an earlier bust-up with striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, it would not come as a major surprise to see the Portuguese winger sold by the Reds.

Dun read too much The Sun UK... It's full of lies and BIG BS.....sometimes....
This is from Soccernet:
Rooney claim: No intent and no ill will
England striker Wayne Rooney insists he did not deliberately stamp on Portugal's Ricardo Carvalho in Saturday's World Cup quarter-final and insists he was 'gobsmacked' by the red card he received.
The 20-year-old Manchester United striker has also admitted he was 'disappointed' with Old Trafford colleague Cristiano Ronaldo's behaviour during the match but said: 'I bear no ill feeling to Cristiano'.
Rooney said in a statement: 'I want to say absolutely categorically that I did not intentionally put my foot down on Ricardo Carvalho. He slid in from behind me and unfortunately ended up in a positioning where my foot was inevitably going to end up as I kept my balance. That's all there was to it.
'When the referee produced the red card I was amazed - gobsmacked. I bear no ill feeling to Cristiano but am disappointed that he chose to get involved. I suppose I do though have to remember that on that particular occasion we were not team-mates,' he said.
Rooney said: 'Obviously I'm bitterly disappointed to have been sent off in a World Cup finals match for England.
'I remember the incident clearly and have seen it several times since on TV. I am of the same opinion now as I was at the time that what happened didn't warrant a red card. If anything, I feel we should have had a free-kick for the fouls committed on me during the same incident.
'If you ask any player - and indeed almost any fan - they will tell you that I am straight and honest in the way I play. From what I've seen in the World Cup, most players would have gone to ground at the slightest contact but my only thought then was to keep possession for England.'
Rooney hailed his England team-mates who fought valiantly to force extra-time and penalties despite being a man down before crashing out in the shoot-out.
'I thought the England lads were awesome after I went off and the effort they put in was amazing. Truly if there was any justice England would now be preparing for a World Cup semi-final. Sadly, however, that is not to be in 2006.
'I want again to thank my team-mates for the unbelievable effort they put into the game and for all the support and encouragement they gave me after it.
'I will also always be indebted to everyone who, after my injury, helped make it possible for me to begin to fulfil a boyhood dream by representing my country in the finals of a World Cup.'
Rooney also paid tribute to outgoing manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and captain David Beckham.
'Finally I want to say how sorry I am to see Sven go and to see David step down as captain. I will always be grateful to Sven for his guidance and the faith he showed in me and to David for being a great captain and great friend.'

Rooney And Ronaldo Make Peace
Cristiano Ronaldo has denied claims he is at loggerheads with Wayne Rooney after Saturday's controversial World Cup clash.
England striker Rooney was dismissed for stamping on Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho, although he was visibly irate at his club-mate's role in the incident.
Ronaldo made apparent his outrage at Rooney's stamp to the match referee, but has now revealed that he and his team-mate exchanged text messages shortly after the match to clear the air.
In an exclusive interview with the website of GesitFute - his representative agency - Ronaldo said: "I would like to make it clear that there is no problem at all between me and Rooney. No problem at all.
"At the end of the game, we exchanged a series of text messages just as we had on the day before. This reinforces that I have a fine relationship with Rooney.
"I would like to make it clear that there is no problem at all between me and Rooney. Between the two of us, everything is clear."
Cristiano Ronaldo on Wayne Rooney
"Between the two of us, everything is clear. In fact, he didn’t just send me congratulations for going forward in the World Cup, he also told me we have a great team, and if we carry on as we have, we will get a long way.
"He wasn’t angry with me, or about anything that happened. And moreover he told me to ignore the things written in the English press on this subject, they only want to stir things up. That’s how they are and we are used to it."
The 21-year-old star, whose side faces France in Wednesday's semi-final, also denied his influence in Rooney's dismissal.
He said: "How is it possible that I would get him sent off? I am not the referee with the power to send off anyone I want, nor do I have the ability to convince him to show cards.
"The referee produced the red card because he thought that he had to, and my participation in that was absolutely zero."

Fergie Gets Lippi
Marcello Lippi is being lined up to join Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. Italy boss Lippi has told friends he will quit after Sunday’s World Cup final. He is now being linked with a role alongside Old Trafford chief Fergie. And that could see him eventually succeed the Scot. Fergie is a long-standing friend and huge admirer of the former Juventus manager. Ferguson, 64, is expected to relinquish the reins after 20 years in charge at the end of the coming season. Italian sources believe Lippi, 58, could either work in tandem with the United supremo or under him - with Fergie promoted to general manager.
Italian Connections
Italy World Cup star Rino Gattuso could soon be on his way to Manchester United. But the deal will only happen this summer if AC Milan are relegated in the massive Italian match-fixing scandal. Intermediaries for United and the player have met in Germany - but so far his Milan club have been left out. Midfielder Gattuso, 28, has been looking for an excuse to join United. He is on record as saying: "It is my dream to play for Manchester United and I have had this dream for a long time." And a well-placed Italian source revealed: "Let’s just say that all parties except Milan are being kept informed and are waiting for the end of the tournament and the trial with interest."
If this is for real!! Then it will be good for Man Utd. New Italian Coach and new Italian Midfielder.....

Patrick £8million Move to Man Utd
Manchester United are ready to lodge an £8million bid with Juventus to make it third time lucky in luring Patrick Vieira to Old Trafford. The proposed deal between United and Juventus was described at the weekend in Italy as "very much a live situation". United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to take advantage of Juventus's relegation in the wake of the Italian match fixing scandal by capturing Vieira. He twice failed to sign Vieira when the towering midfielder was at Arsenal, and said after the last time he had "been down that road too many times before." But the United boss, on the club's pre-season tour of South Africa, is confident of making it third time lucky in landing the 30-year-old in a cut-price deal
Bernabeu beckons for Ruud - Agent
Ruud van Nistelrooy's agent has confirmed the Manchester United striker is keen on a move to Real Madrid. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson announced on Friday the Holland international striker had asked to leave Old Trafford with Real and Bayern Munich leading the chase for the 30-year-old. It appears the Spanish giants have the upper hand, however, with the player's representative Roger Linse telling Marca: "We met with Manchester United to tell them Ruud thought that stage of his career was over. "We know that Madrid want him and the player is also keen to play there.
"Madrid is a dream for any footballer and also for Ruud." :p
Yeah! Ruud can go but hopefully we can get 15mil out of him
Rumours is that Torres will replace Ruud. Torres is rated as 25mill:eek:

ManYoo’s dream strategy of deploying an on-loan Patrick Vieira as a midfield enforcer alongside Michael Carrick has hit a significant snag: the Frenchman is reportedly set to join Inter Milan.
According to The Sun, while Fergie has been dithering with the Old Trafford board, Inter have swung into action’ and offered Juve £10m for Vieira.
The Daily Mirror, on the other hand, believes that the capture of the former Arsenal captain is still a possibility and reckons that an £8m bid from Old Trafford is imminent.
Either way, the nature of ManYoo's summer plans are slowly emerging after weeks of dithering. Both Michael Carrick and Tomasz Kuszczak are likely to complete their moves to Old Trafford this week, while Sir Alex wants to replace the Real Madrid-bound Ruud van Nistelrooy with Fernando Torres.
Talks with Torres' representatives have reportedly already began and, although Sir Alex has noted the availability of Juventus duo David Trezeguet and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Scot has made the signing of the young striker his number one priority.
The prospect of Cristiano Ronaldo fulfilling his ManYoo contract have also improved, partly due to 'heart-to-heart' talks with his mother, and partly because Real Madrid are believed to favour both Franck Ribery and Chelski's Arjen Robben.

I agree with JStan; not easy with the Italians and definitely not a bargain. Arsene Wenger already pull out of that mess..
I think ManUtd should just concentrate on MCarrick - he's young, future England star and possibly, will lit up the whole OT with his display. Maybe another player like FRibbery to replace our old-men RGiggs..
PViera is doubtful altho' as an immediate solutions he is ok but for long term purposes, 8 million pound is a lot of money. He's aging, and I've always thot of him as a partner in crime with Arsene Wenger, using his supposedly intent to transfer to ManUtd to squeeze more transfer money from Arsenal Board until he himself got played up by Arsene.

I agree - current first teamer is GOOD not GREAT like before...:worried: I'm concern with the lack of activities in the transfer market. Man Utd can played their hearts out but still not effective like the team of the yesteryears..
Chelsea may accumulate more points not because they are great but that was because ManUtd and Arsenal had declined and needed rebuilding...
I still think we need a creative midfielder in Ribbery mould; esp. he's been touted as the new Zidane, the playmaker...this is because Man Utd is a team that plays from goal to goal and the supplier plays central role.
Holding midfielder is easier to find especially we have the tenacity in Alan Smith:cool:

actually i have some doubts about getting a playmaker for MAN U
coz like the previous year we have a playmaker in veron but it is a total disaster...an attacking midfielder might be more suitable for MAN U .... someone who could take over from paul scholes when he is injured or after he stops playing....kaka from acmilan will be my perfect choice :)

Do not doubt about Man Utd that department, Jerry.. Scholes, Butt, Keane they are all good but Man Utd needs someone who can turn the game and make it happen ala Cantona..!
Juan Sebastien Veron was quite good but the problem with him was he's always injured.. I remembered him coming back for CL Semis after a serious knee injury trying to rescue Man Utd' dream but to no avail.. :sad-2:
Good players play well but Great player not only always play well but stays relatively clear of injuries like Cantona, Pele & George Best..
I'd say we go French.. the last time we had a Frenchman... not only we didn't do too badly but we're practically invincible at the EPL...

He had to come back otherwise kena fine two weeks wages leh..
Looks like it's either Bayern or Real Madrid.
Good to see Paul Scholes back, at least he has some creativity. Need to have a good defensive midfielder/battler/enforcer.. like Gattuso or Viera. Carrick looks a bit lembik to me, although he's young.
Kanasai this Sir Alex dun wanna pay more money. With less than a month before season starts, doesn't look good. Don't tell me he wants to wait till January then only buy?!
Must be like Barcelona, diam diam suddenly Thuram and Zambrotta going there.

No worries, Bro...
I've just heard on the radio on my way to work that Frank Lampard can leave on cheap after next year.....
This is after D Duff, E Gudjohnsen, D Drogba, W Bridge, H Crespo, A D Horno, et. al have indicated their intentions to leave or already have left Chelsea...
Moral of the story is - not so easy to keep a team of superstars happy all the time.

Tottenham are expected to confirm the sale of their England midfielder Michael Carrick to Manchester United in an £18million deal later on Friday.
Spurs, who rejected a bid of £10million from United earlier this summer, are understood to have accepted their increased offer for the player. Reports suggest the deal to take Carrick to Old Trafford was finally completed early on Friday morning and he is expected to be unveiled as a United player later.
Carrick's move to Old Trafford will land Spurs a handsome profit on a player they signed from West Ham for just £2.75million two years ago.
Ferguson has been a long-time admirer of the midfielder who will help fill the void left by the departed Roy Keane. Although he will not be a direct replacement for the Irishman, Carrick's passing skills will provide them with an outlet they have lacked since Keane left the club.
Carrick's loss will still be a major blow for Spurs coach Martin Jol who helped the 25-year-old force his way into Sven-Goran Eriksson's World Cup squad.
The Dutch coach had hoped that Carrick would repay the club's loyalty by staying at White Hart Lane but Spurs would not agree to the player's wage demands - reported to be around £50,000-a-week.
Carrick had two years left on his Tottenham deal but had rejected a new contract offer in the wake of United's persistent interest.

Indeed......... Man Utd's weaknesses lies in midfield b'cos' of the aging stars like Giggs and Scholes.. the only 2 survivors from the original Class of 92...
I think SAF is going into the right direction - with the right aggression and tenacity - Carrick can live up to the billings as one of England's top midfielders.. Age is on his side - now hopefully, he'll learn much from the old masters at Old Trafford.........
I hope that SAF would go for Franck Ribberry - the Scarfaced and possibly another midfielder before Giggs and Scholes called it a day.. :sad-2:

I've just read from The People UK, and if the reports are to be believed, that Man Utd is looking to put together a sum of 27 million pounds sterling to buy the El Nino aka Fernando Torres who is 22 years old from Athletico Madrid..
I think if he arrives + one Franck Ribbery, Man Utd definitely has it..... to win the EPL again for the next few years................
I think upfont wise, no other team in Europe, except perhaps Barcelona can outscore Man Utd.
Another young sweeper now emerging from Man Utd ranks is Gerard Pique (only 19 years of age) whose team has now won the U-19 European Championships yesterday...

Fans like I am, are just sore that Viera always seems to give ManUtd a wild goose chase or false hope to the extent that we're just not bother with him anymore. ..
Inter would be favourite to become winners again by default rather than proving their actual fire-power.

Buy Ribbery at all cost!
Better to pay now than to pay later .... (Carrick used to cost 2.75 Million pounds, Ronaldinho = 25 Million Euros)
Hope SAF doesn't make it three blunders in a row....

United officials have been privately talking about an imminent arrival "on the scale of Wayne Rooney" and Adriano, 24, has emerged as boss Sir Alex Ferguson's top summer transfer target. HARGREAVES SET FOR MANYOO SWITCH
Owen Hargreaves is on the brink of signing for ManYoo in a £17m deal.
The England midfielder held clandestine talks with Sir Alex Ferguson at the club's Carrington training ground on Thursday morning and the Old Trafford giants are confident that a deal can be reached this weekend with Bayern Munich, Hargreaves' current employers.
'A meeting has been scheduled between officials from the two clubs in Munich on Sunday, but it emerged last night that an agreement was imminent,' says The Times. 'That meeting may still be needed to determine the structure of the fee, but there appears little doubt that the deal will proceed, given that Hargreaves has approved the terms of the five-year contract on offer.'
Having been told of Ferguson's desire to sign him two weeks ago, Hargreaves reportedly informed the Bundesliga champions that he wished to leave after returning from a post-World Cup holiday.
'Ferguson invited Hargreaves to the club's training ground yesterday morning, where he is understood to have spoken at length about taking over the role vacated by Roy Keane's departure last November. Whether Bayern had any idea about this meeting is unclear but it has become apparent that Ferguson believes he is on the verge of completing his third signing of the summer,' reports The Guardian.
'The Bayern midfielder was pictured leaving the Lowry Hotel in Manchester with an escort from the CES security firm, a company used by United.'
A partnership of Hargreaves and Michael Carrick will represent a complete overhaul of ManYoo's central midfield but the arrivals of the England duo will occur at a considerable cost. Having spent approximately £35m on the pair, Ferguson will have spent all the contents of his summer transfer kitty, ensuring that are no funds remaining with which to acquire a replacement for Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Hargreaves demands respect from Bayern
England midfielder Owen Hargreaves said Bayern Munich executives were aware of his continued interest in a transfer to Manchester United even if he realises they do not want to let him go home.
In an interview with Bild newspaper on Friday, Hargreaves said it was out of his hands whether the two clubs would be able to reach a deal by the Aug. 31 close of the transfer window but he made clear he has not given up hope of a transfer.
'I've given everything to Bayern Munich for the last nine years and I want to be treated with respect,' said Hargreaves, 25. 'I simply want it to be accepted that Manchester would be a great step for me.'
Canadian-born Hargreaves was voted England's best player at the World Cup finals in a poll by the Football Association.
He has been at Bayern since joining the club as a teenager in 1997 and his current contract runs through June 2010.
Bayern sporting director Uli Hoeness has criticised Hargreaves for publicly expressing his desire to go.
Hoeness has repeatedly rejected a reported offer of 25 million euros ($32 million) and said he wouldn't sell Hargreaves for 50 million euros.
'The manager doesn't want to let me go. That's his right,' said Hargreaves. 'But he knows exactly what I want.'
Asked by Bild if that was an immediate transfer, he said: 'It's simply a great challenge. I'm an England player, part of my family lives near Manchester. A lot of things come together.'
Hargreaves was hit with a 25,000-euro fine from Bayern this week for insubordination after he called the Manchester United offer 'simply fantastic'.
Hargreaves on Friday defended his decision to extend his contract last year to 2010 in Munich.
'It was a great honour for me at the time,' he said. 'In the meantime, a lot of things have developed for me in a different way. I have a great chance to become a key player for England.'
Hargreaves, whom Bayern hoped could fill a void left when Michael Ballack left for Chelsea, said he is not worried about being banished to the bench.
'The coach knows what I can do,' he said. 'And so do the fans. I always give everything I have. That won't change no matter where I play.'
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has threatened to report Manchester United to FIFA if they do not give up their pursuit of Hargreaves.
