Agree with bizzi... sales makes lots of money... and I guess it's a great option for those who need the money...
And I believe everyone has to be in sales at one point or another in a career because its a great experience... even with your own business it still boils down being able to sell... and a good sales person can make a mediocre product look great. Try not thinking from a direct sales perspective and every company is out to sell.
The only downside I can see is that the frustration levels are greater than most... people don't usually stay too long in any particular sales job. Income too fluctuates...

Hokay, just to keep in line with the topic....Study life vs working life.
I enjoyed study life, as I enjoyed the extra-curricular activites and the satisfaction of getting results from exams. Of course, on the other hand, there was anxiety and preparation before the exam. In the university was the same, not much stress, little responsibility except for myself.
Working life is different. The only good thing is independence, and able to afford to buy things from my own salary. The level of stress increases, responsibility also increased greatly with each level, eg House officer, senior house officer, registrar, consultant, etc. And not to mention, there is still professional exam to go through and a lot of courses to attend.
So, who says life is easy?

hmmm... if i really think about it, i think i prefer working life cuz got $$$ n time after work to enjoy as i've mentioned above to lav.
if i were still studying, i'll feel very guilty for going out instead of staying home to study. so dat ruin d fun n i wouldnt stop complaining about how tough it is, how much more to cover, d subject i hate, etc etc. ppl will be so sick of my companionship in d end might as well stay home alone.

I enjoyed study life in Primary and Secondary....but not in university. I really have phobia of the uni life...so dem busy...lectures and practical classes from 8am-6pm everyday from Mon-Fri, 8-12pm every Saturday. Just last month i went to Skudai UTM for ronda-ronda. When we drove by the Science Faculty, it looked so similar to my previous U Sc fac it sent a shiver down my spine. I commented to my husband i will never ever go back to study again...very scared liao!:squeeze:

No leh...people says uni more easy to score, but i feel more difficult. Din do that well either...just cukup makan to graduate with an honour. Uni live does leave some nostalgia, i did revisit UM after graduate, the hostels and other places (except my faculty) leaves good memories. The uni life and friends also leaves good memories....so i guess it's a good experience after all. Only the studies gave me phobia.

hi Shirlene! which college did you stay at? i stayed at 8th RC for all 3 years. the bestest of the bestest of them all! muahahahaha :p did you do chemistry? then i u/std why you're so stressed. i did biochem and it was as crazily hectic as my fellow chemist friends but somehow, i think their life was better compare to ours. i guess the only stressful thing for them was that their lecturer was very strict on procedures while ours were cool. :) uni years were my best years in life so far.... although do miss the carefree days of being a child without serious studying. now, working life has its pros and cons too but since this is my first time working, everything's so new. i'm rather enjoying the most part of it i guess. give me a couple of years. hahaha!

TK Ho, i thought UK don't recognise M'sia MBBS?
You are right. It used to recognise UM MBBS until in the early/mid eighties. Therefore, I had to sit for the IELTS, and then PLAB test, a qualifying test for overseas graduates whose degrees are not recognised by the General Medical Council of UK. It was a very risky situation then because I could be spending indefinitely my time to pass the test. Luckily, it took me only 6 months in total, and got a job immediately.
I was the only one from UM to have done this, but looking back, it was worth it. :noworry:

You are right. It used to recognise UM MBBS until in the early/mid eighties. Therefore, I had to sit for the IELTS, and then PLAB test, a qualifying test for overseas graduates whose degrees are not recognised by the General Medical Council of UK. It was a very risky situation then because I could be spending indefinitely my time to pass the test. Luckily, it took me only 6 months in total, and got a job immediately.
I was the only one from UM to have done this, but looking back, it was worth it. :noworry:

As for the foundation programme, as for now, new overseas students who graduate from UK medical school will be allow 2 years of permit free training under F1 and F2. After that, it is still uncertain, but in my opinion, if you could get a job, no one will stop you from getting a visa to stay on. I would advise that the Modernising Medical Career should not discourage you from staying in UK to work.

I'm here for more than a year liao n used to d way things are done but there's always new things popping up to learn like wen co change new accounting software, compliance with new accounting regulations, etc.
sigh... learning process is a never-ending process lav.
In my last performance review last week, i said i've adapted well to d culture and pressure, deadlines are very challenging but i understand dat finance work got peak periods wen we sometimes work till midnight!
my record so far was preparing an ad-hoc presentation for GM, me n colleague n boss work till 2.30am!! at dat time, i was wondering wat the heck was i doing slaving for d company at such an ungodly hour...
but after d review, my boss mentioned dat they are keen to train me up further to fully utilise my potential. i seriously hope dat means a promotion or better opportunities but it's all verbal so she can change mind anytime, rite?
so i may stick around just to see wat happens... hope i aint wasting my time.

b4 going anywer...need experience dear. in that sense...i think the 4yr compulsary service is a blessing. coz years as medical students we are seeing very little + the fact we just plan managements...for discussion sake (unlike when working...we actually ARE responsible for patient care)

I feel interview for fresh graduate so much easier and straight forward. In fact i got offer for almost all the job i was interviewed for as a fresh graduate. Just use a standard model answer for all their question.
On the other hand, much more difficult to sell your experience when you want to change job. The interviewer will ask lots of questions about what you did in the previous job,how are you going to handle this scenario, blah, blah... and then finally say "Your previous experience is not quite relevant here"...and then either you get rejected, or they try to reduce your asking pay.:sad-2:

well funk, for me SPM/STPM is a good measurement yardstick when it comes to comparing one with another but it is not an ultimate selection criteria.
if i do come across somebody with grade 2 but plenty of experiences, i would definitely consider him/her but that person will really have to impress me in the interview....

From your personal experience, do u see paper qualification ie (ie spm/stpm, degree, postgrad) only as important as getting you to the first interview stage? and the rest being how the candidate presents? or does paper make say 60% of decision to hire the person.

i wld say paper qualification is definitely important to get the first interview, then personality would complement that during the interview....as for the ratio, 60%-40% wld be a fair estimate.....but once that person is hired....paper qualification is no longer an issue (unless HR has a condition there)...its now all depends on the individual's performance and contribution to the organisation.....

I'd say paper qualification important for your 1st job (SPM results important if it's from some foreign , not so popular u, since so many degree can be bought dun knowwhether authentic or not). Your your latter job interview, previous job experience and personality more important, since i think the employer trust the former employer's judgement on the paper qua.

ok, back to study vs working life k?? no point going on and on about MCPs and buayas and flirt and the sorts. it'll never end. they are produced by the millions by the minutes! sigh.... the world just can't live with 'em yet can't live w/o 'em! :D this is the thing i don't like about virtual reality, you can't really know the person's expression. i was just stating my observation. no anger or disgust or any negative emotions involved. so, it's all cool ya?? :D

yes, you got MNC right. FMCG = Fast Moving Consumer Goods :D you're NOT a dungu!! it's very smart of you to ask when you don't know. dungus are people who don't know but out of sheer ego, pretend that they know! :)

haha... andrew so farnie you! i thought i should be learning lots from you leh... i'm so new to this industry myself. banking line should know lotsa industry right?? anyway, yes, manufactured goods. for mine, we do foods to personal and home care. so we have shampoos and soaps to laundry and dishwashing detergent to ice-cream and seasonings. Unilever is known to be the best Marketing FMCG company globally. our direct competitor is P&G and the rest like Nestle, Reckitt, and the likes. we manufacture and sell them through our distributors or customers like hypermarts. i can't tell you much 'coz i'm still learning myself. but hope i managed to clear slightly the blur vision of your FMCG understanding! :)

i went for one of my company's subsidiary's AGM yesterday, a Sunday!
hmm... how nice if i can claim OT cuz its definitely beyond d call of duty but unfortunately no such policy in my company.
actually its not compulsory but boss said "encouraged" to attend cuz i alone handle sub's a/c, so office politics decree dat i go... thus i went.
it was interesting but my sunday was ruined. i wanted to go shopping! :(

I'm surprised that an AGM is actually held sunday (weekend). How do all the ppl who are stakeholders in the company attend?

dats d whole idea... apparently d property owners aka shareholders (its a property mgt co) ask for a weekend AGM so they dun hafta take leave from work! in fact, it was such an informal affair dat it was held at one of d owners' luxury bungalow at his/her consent. weird huh?

u know d one thing i really miss during my studying days? FREEDOM!
i could drop my books for a day or even skip a class, just to go shopping n catch a movie with frens or hang out at home playing pc games. Once we even took d cable car up to genting in d morn n play d whole day b4 return home in late evening. hmm... i think we all wanted to ponteng a couple of extremely boring lectures dat day. hehe...
now? im tired after work hours, swim abit n read newspapers then get ready for bed. i cant take a day off on a whim cuz it'll be 'emergency leave' n it looks bad on my record. weekends are my only gap in time to recharge n restock my groceries, catch up with chores & laundry. if i have time & energy left, then n only then, i try to catch up with frens. sigh... wat a life.

i assume 'swimming' being a metaphor for our situation in life. then i guess we're all still learning. i think i got d basic strokes right but am afraid to try d fancy ones cuz may risk drowning.
but u know wat? if frens 'swim' side by side, it gives us courage to go forth cuz there will always be helping hands to pull me up if i lose heart n let myself sink...
so my answer to u is yes, let us go swimming together! :)
p.s. i do love good company at my swimming pool, if all along u mean d real swimming!

dont walk behind me, i may not lead;
dont walk in front of me, i may not follow;
just walk beside me - side by side (duno if got say hold my hands ;))
