talking about DUMC, as an ex-ACSian we should be proud of the following:-
(I hope I wont be censured for saying this but in any case I am ready to be put in the line of fire)
1. the senior pastor of DUMC is a true blue ACSian. When he was in school he was the captain of the school's ping-pong team. His ping-pong was good;
2. our bass guitarist is none other than our Anson and we do miss him on stage when he was away for a couple of months and when he finally came back on stage my wife mentioned "Anson is back";
3. Patrick Leong (I hope I have his name right) who has a very powerful voice and a singer also comes from ACS. His singing can anytime match Daniel of the Malaysian Idol fame. In DUMC he is only a back-up singer but sometimes you still can hear his singing at the back.

100% sure. When I did my RTC training during my second year in ACS Sitiawan I think he was already in Fm 4 or 5. He use to come into the staff room in the morning to hand over the ping-pong bats and nets to the teacher in charge of the ping-pong team. Again his wife also from ACS.

yes, Pastor Daniel was the captain of the school ping-pong team. Do you also know that DUMC's elders like Kee and KC Ling are all from ACS too. They were my juniors in school. I suppose this talk of DUMC has to stop here then.

Anson, are the Shadows your favourite band? I like the Shadows too and I have a CD of their old hits of the 70s and I like the way they play their guitars. Their lead guitarist is Hank Marvin and he has been there since its formation although several members of the Band has changed over the years.

Talented, gifted or whatever it may be, this equation holds water:

That I agree 'cause from the 1st day I went into DUMC and saw him play and till today, he has improved alot on his bass. I think he didnt realise that I could recognise him. Hey, JC do try to learn to play the guitar or maybe you already know how to play, perhaps one fine day we can have a jam-sesssion with Anson, you, myself and any other forummers who wants to have fun playing in a guitar band.

Kudos, kudos, kudos, Uncle Cucuan! Hehehe - but quite difficult to make a NICE recording with a DECENT Hank Marvin tone on my electric guitar - I have got equipment that's basic enought to even orchestrate most of the Shad's songs, tho' but still the hardest thing to obtain is Hank's signature twang - unless I purchase something like a Behringer Vamp or Vamp 2 or the slightly more expensive Line 6 POD XT (that one yields a BETTER outcome of the Hank Marvin tone - hahahaha!)

By the way, Hank M himself had (and still has) Bruce Welch as his "other guitarist", the rhythm guitarist for as long as the Shads exist in history....since 1958 at least but drummerwise, hanya satu kali tukar (and Brian Bennett still triumphs over the late Tony Meehan who passed away b4 Xmas last year anytime in terms of technique and versatility), but the Shads' bassists changed hands quite a fair bit, abt 4 or 5 times to say.....amongst the best ones to quote are still Jet Harris (traditional) and Mark Griffiths (contemporary):D

Alka you sure you belong to the Shadow era or not? If so then you have Cliff Richard and the Shadow. The last time we saw live in Genting the performance by Cliff Richard. Well, those in their 40s really stood up from their comfortable seats waving their hands, clapping their hands and some even dance away. I was too shy to do that. It was a fantastic concert by Cliff Richard, worth ever Ringgit we paid for. Many were very disappointed for not attending the concert. He is ever the evergreen. We are hoping for another of Cliff's returnn to M'sia.

Aowrrrgghh...beh tahan lerr...but yet it's tooooo hard for me to determine which of these is my fave guitar piece....(I do have a tendency to favour some tracks produced in 1964 and later).
1. The Rise and Fall Of Flingel Bunt (1964)
2. Shindig (1963)
3. Man of Mystery (1960 - The Shad's 2nd UK hit after Apache)
4. Guitar Tango (1962)
5. Dance On (1962)
6. The Stranger (1960)
7. Nivram (1961)
8. FBI (1961)
9. The Savage (1961)
10. The Flyder and The Spy (1967)
11. The Miracle (1964)
12. Sacha (1969 solo by Hank Marvin)
13. Cosy (1962 composed by Earl Shuman and Mort Garson)
and the list goes on and is subject to my changing taste....hahahah

Apache? Rather trivial lah, uncle Cucuan - being The Shad's own numero uno all the way back in 1960 - hahaha............and I trashed Hank's lines NOT ON AN ELECTRIC GUITAR but ON KAPOKS instead - soooooo catchy to pick up even without the tremolo arm :D

My answer to you quote, my dear Oddpapa - from the sixties until his death of cardiac arrest late 1996, is one fine lad born and bred in Penang named Teddy Beh was spotted at a music shop at a corner lot opposite BP Uptown (SLC Muzik Sdn Bhd) where Fenders and Peaveys (guitars, basses and amplification) were a thriving force in the MI(Musical Instruments)' market - and he was spotted trying out some guitar amps SOUNDING SEBIJI dan SAMA with Hank Marvin's lead guitar lines - and he was using a Vox AC30 amp (that trademark British electric lead sound came originally from this amp) plus a Meazzi Copycat (remodelled kit, not original) for the tape echo effect (as you would notice in MOST of Shadows' early hits' electric guitar lines ie. The Savage, Kon-Tiki, etc.) and to my amazement, that was it! The late Uncle Teddy also used another Peavey Classic amp placed beside the AC30 - the tone was decent and FAT tho' but still pales out in comparison with the Vox AC30 and nothing beats the original gadgetry......I managed to catch some of his live appearances in small pubs around Uptown area in the mid nineties and there was a Malaysianized Cliff Richard version (cannot remember his name)but so-so only leh - still loved Uncle Teddy's playing and I shall always miss his lines as he's for long gone.....another person worth a catch to hear his guitar lines would be a lad from Johor Bharu named Peter Hiu - anyone heard of him before? BTW my own singing voice can't match Cliff R or even Jose Mari Chan (the Filipino Cliff Richard) - so folks, sorry no Sitiawanized voice - except for maybe Ray Hong ~ mana dia hilang entah........????

Some agent (a work contact) who tries to look for professional or semi-pro musicians found out about me as a bass player with substantial experience, and that was where I got some recommendation to feature first in his gospel events (that agent fren himself is quite a famous Chinese gospel singer/songwriter in M'sia) and much later when that Taiwanese gospel singer came in to M'sia late 2004 (when I first knew him), my agent recommended me to him again (first playing in a conference where he spoke and recording ONE album track for him) and late 2005 was when I landed in China and Taiwan for my first time ever.......
