if we are the underdog going into each game, then YES!!!
We did in 1992. Now it's 2006.
According to mathematical probability, should be this year... :D

Commonwealth is not a good place to judge our standards la... It's only England or Malaysia plus Singapore imports.... Asian Games, maybe la.... but too late already.

In 1992, we were the host country. That's why we won because we had many jaguh kampung then.
As for this year, I see it as a good chance for Malaysia to win. The Indons are weaker and with the new 21-point system, it may just play to our players advantage. Lee Chong Wei and the doubles tend to benefit from this new score system.
Planning to see the game live?? Wearing headbands again??:)If only ausman would go get the tickets (as usual) ;)
KoChun, good analysis... :) I hope Malaysia's Thomas Cup campaign won't let us down, again.

Badminton can firmly stake its claim to be the world’s fastest racquet sport, with smashes reaching speeds of up to 332kph so far at testing during the Sudirman Cup in Beijing.
The International Badminton Federation are conducting speed trials for the first time at one of their major events, with microwave sensors recording the speed of smashes on the main court at the world mixed team championships.
Chinese doubles star Fu Haifeng has recorded the fastest smash of 332kph so far, while world No 2 Kenneth Jonassen of Denmark has recorded the fastest smash for a singles player at 298kph.
And with women’s singles shuttler Huang Sui hitting at 257kph, tennis star Andy Roddick’s world-record serve of 246kph is some way off badminton’s blistering pace.
“The speed and agility of these athletes is just amazing,” said Alex Loccisano, whose Melbourne-based company is providing the specialist sensors and software, which have also been used at major cricket and tennis events.
“Badminton can certainly consider itself to be the world’s fastest racket sport, and at this rate, will force this speed testing technology to move forward pretty quickly in order to keep up.”
The equipment is currently only able to record speeds of up to around 350kph, so today’s star shuttlers are already pushing the limits.

But that time, we got jaguh kampung (Rashid Sidek). He won all the 1st singles games, including an on-form player, Zhao Jiang Hua.
I see the 3rd singles as a very important player in this year Thomas Cup competition. Of all the players, Hafiz is experienced enough but he has got to handle the pressure well. His brother, Roslin failed miserably in 2002 against Hendrawan in the final.

Malaysia vs Denmark; Hmmm... very tough oso. Denmark have two strong doubles. If Lee CW loses the first singles, a lot of pressure-lah.

What I don't understand is why Indonesia beat Korea to end up meeting China in the semis. They should have thrown their match, like they previously had done, to meet Malaysia in the semis instead.

There were times when China/Indonesia were throwing their matches just to avoid Malaysia when we were perceived as very strong. I think Indonesia did try to throw that match away. They lost the first single and first double. Maybe IBF give them warning to buck up....

Hmmm...quite possible. But I think even if they had lost the third singles, IBF still cannot prove that they threw away the match :p
