as christians, we talk about the idea of vocation or calling (does islam have this concept too, malcolm? lavanya, what about hinduism?) meaning that we're not at our jobs just to get bread, or just to get ahead... but that we're called by God to fulfill His purposes in the work that we do. the troublesome part for some, is finding out what those purposes are...=)

We do have the same concept. I can say we have a purpose in life, knowing where we came from, and our next destination. Islam and Christianity share similar roots.

Also we have the concept of vicegerency (human being is perceived as the trustee/administrator of the earth).

Something to add:
In Islam everything we do in the name of the Almighty (in accordance to the Quran and the Hadith [sayings+traditions of Prophet Muhammad pbuh] ) are considered acts of worship. In the name of Allah - we eat, read, walk, talk think, write, pray, sleep, bathe, work, giving tithes, etc etc of anymore verbs you can think of.

Thanks for the info about Islam! =) christians also have the concept of viceregency, but we call it stewardship... it dates back from waaaay back when God gave Adam and Eve the mandate to 'rule over' creation.

and the idea of worship as a lifestyle and not just something one does on a 'holy day' is also found in christianity... but unfortunately not all christians practice it (and i must admit, it is much easier said than done!)

on the discrepancies...i'd say we shud agree to disagree amicably on certain matters. tatz part of maturity.
actually i'm still learning loads bout mine..coz though i used to attane religious classes when young mostly they state things in too simplictic a manner, which i cant sometimes accept. a lot of ruminating on my part b4 i embrace a certain concept. :)

and FYI...basic of Hinduism is 'to find the truth'...seeker of the truth can be considered as a hindu. its more of a lifestyle...not only religion.
some frenz are amazed i can discuss with religions with frenz of different faiths...even when its provocative topic. but i know my stand...keep an open mind to their arguments...and we all learn something everyday :) and yang baik boleh dipraktikkan oleh anyone!

hey thanx for ur wishes cuz it must b magic since my eye shrunk back to its normal size n colour by evening dat same day :) but then again, it cud be d special eyedrop d lengjai doctor gave me, he say its d strongest he have with steriod in it dat cures allergic reaction asap. i told him i wan only d best med he can gimme but he did warn me not to put more than 3 drops to avoid side effects, then throw d whole bottle away, wat a waste. it worked like a charm!

a thought just came to mind: funny how that when we are at our lowest point in life, we focus whatever energy that is left in ourselves to those in need around us and we feel almost better in that instant. personal experience that i'm going through now la.... was really depressed for the past few weeks but with very supportive friends (you know who you are), i managed to survive although still feeling low. but i was uplifted yesterday and the troubles seem to have eluded me somehow (might come back but for now, it's out of the way). and this morning, i managed to offer the little energy i have to my sis and friend that i feel so much better. i hope God will bless them well too and feel better about the crumbling world they are facing right now. i guess we all face this once in awhile and that's why God prepared support for us in friends. =) why don't you all share your experiences?

malc...& the other guys, u wanna know the SECRET? when a gal...or any fren cries in front of u:

1/ just let them cry (tatz the bestest 'gift' u can give. trust me...it takes loads for s1 ro shed their social mask & cry...so, if u say things like 'dun cry'...'its not end of live' etc etc...tatz like the biggest deprivation to the person!

2/ offer a shoulder for them to cry on...if they have anything to say, listen & reflect back to them. a gentle pat...or hug (of coz this cant apply to all...but when permissible :)) would be great - it signifies understanding and allowing the person to 'let go' - unburden themselves.

3/ give 'em tissues! ;)
they trust u enuff to 'let go' in front of u! as much as they let go, in a way (deep within) they might feel shameful. so...just tell them that its ok to cry. in fact...only a STRONG person can shed their brave front (coz to trust is to risk oneself). and TISSUES...well, just offering them is an act of kindness.

hehe....hope those who were as clueless as malcolm is more clue-ful now! do let me know if any of u try/tried this & find it successful

haha... i just had a most interesting fire drill at 10am. its for d whole building 44 floors so my office at 32nd floor imagine d number of stairs i climbed down today! lucky its going down n not up so d climb itself wasnt too bad but halfway down i got a bad headache cuz going round n round n round... pening lalat lar! i tot was seeing double stairs, lucky didnt roll all d way down, though dat might be alot faster than balancing on my heels n dragging my blazer along.

interesting thing is d bomba actually use da smoke bomb at one window n got a bunch of bombas on extended metal stairs to replicate shooting water at it. prob is, water tak sampai cuz window too high! bodoh... guess who got a good bath when d wind blew d spraying water towards our assembly area outside d building! me n collegues now trying to untangle wet hair plus feeling cold n miserable in office... :(

funny thing is, it took them so long to increase d water pressure (meantime we had a looong bath) dat d smoke already went out b4 water finally reached d window! wah if real life whole building bakar habis liao! then sum1 announced its a success (really??) n its all over so we can all go back to d drudgery of work (no he didnt say dat, its my own words).

wahhh... it lasted about an hour but even now d drill is over n im safely back in my comfortable chair, my head still throbbing gila. i think its a case of 'stair-sick' as opposed to carsick or seasick. lucky we were allowed to take d lift back up!

cheh...wanted to take pix cuz its my 1st fire drill but forgot to bring camera. Cun bombas though... (i mean d shiny red trucks, not d guys!) hehe...
