classmates

a few weeks ago, i went for a wedding dinner on behalf of my dad in kl. the thought of going and meeting people that i do not even know was scary.

my dad was invited by an old classmate. his youngest daughter's marriage. the uncle and my dad graduated way back in 1963 (i think). dindings high school (?)

anyway, when i reached the dinner venue, the first thing that troubled me was that there was no seat designated under my dad's name. so, i thought maybe i can just pass the "ang pow" to my dad's friend and "cabut".

but, after meeting him, i decided to hang on a bit longer. he said that he will put me in one of the tables. ok. there i was lingering here and there. taking some soft drinks. dinner time was fast approaching and eventually, passed and i have yet to have a seat!

but something tells me to hang on. maybe there is someone that i know there. then, i wouldn't feel so out of place.

my dad's friend approached me and a gentleman he was. older than me but treats me with respect. he showed me to 2 tables where my dad's classmates were at and properly introduced me. i blushed. they were extremely nice.

i chatted with some of the classmates and it turned out to be a wonderful experience. i mean, that's the first time (that i can remember) that i met my dad's friends / classmates. he seldom speaks of them. but to finally meet them was a historical moment for me. just listening to them sharing their lives etc was indeed something to treasure. to find out more about your own dad, about his school days, is something to remember. always.

anyway, found out that most of his classmates (about 40 of them) are in the klang valley and that they meet up regularly. the added bonus is that they still keep in touch with their former headmaster. he was there at the dinner as well. a wonderful group of classmates!

i shared with my dad all that took place. can see and hear joy in him when he heard that. i think he really wanted to go but just that health did not permit him.

anyway, let's hope we still keep in touch after more than 40 years:D

updates fm cyclone district - no tornadoes but on thursday, we had really strong gusts of winds that turned over 8 semi-trucks on the interstate/highway and 3 factory-manufactured homes. glad to report that there were no casulties!

my semester is coming to its last leg and with deadlines on my prof's research projects, conferences, assignments, etc, i might go incognito again till may!

yeap...it will if not monitored properly....can easily blown out of proportion....must always have strong self control one.....rule of thumb, must have a budget (line by line) and cater 15% for additional add-on....

there is always the temptations to do more....so, be very carefull....
on the other hand...if you don do now, u will never do it....like me, shld have done a balcony for my house....:(

smurf ah? hmm....to be honest with you, after his wedding, i think i've only seen him less than 10 times, including the one on my wedding day ha ha ha. the last time i saw him was when he turned up at our weekly badminton game (and he was there observing only). guess he's very busy these days he he he who knows, maybe little smurf is on the way :)

Talking about meeting to have teh-tarik, going by what I see, it looks like many of us are living in Sri Damansara, Damansara Perdana and Bandar Utama area. At the moment I know that Leslie, AndrewH, JCWong, and myself are linving in SD, Fulat, Alan, t-wei, darthvader, and a few more (the other names just slipped my mind) are living in DP, hcling and kenneth are living in BU. If you make a head count there could be easily about 20 of us. But somehow we are unable to gather them all from this part of the town to have teh-tarik together in NKS. The reason I mentioned NKS is that I know of only NKS having wifi and its cheap to have a cuppa there unless you guys know of another central place where we live with wifi facilities.
