LiLian, you moved from Dublin to Europe or just Dublin=Europe? :D
LiLiaN
12-09-2004, 05:33 PM
no, just dublin = europe for the time being... travel around europe a lot so don't feel like tied to just good ol' dub (not that keen on guinness, so lacking loyalty to the city)...

it's about signs (also, of the holy grail) and various associated theories of conspiracies, with secret society to operate in opposition to the roman catholic church... absolutely fabulous book... even for someone non-religious like me, it's rather fascinating...!

dublin is freezing at this time of the year... but it does give it a rather christmassy feel... :)

What area of studies you are doing in Dublin? Mind to share? You can PM me is you don't want everyone to know. Can you undestand the Irish, (or also known as Gaelic?)

well, i am doing genetics at the moment... not too bad although it wasn't my favourite topic of study in science.... but hey, learning something new everyday is not bad you know.. :)
as for irish, well, never really learned it when i came here... :o (exempted from doing it) but i had to do french from scratch... a bit painful but all in all, i did enjoy it very much and it is really handy for travelling... it's also similar to italian and spanish that travelling to italy and spain is also made easy....
besides, everyone here use english... even irish people hate doing irish in school...

Bonjour LiLian, Yes! I was in London(1995) and Paris (2000) for a short while. I was with my wife in Paris when she was seconded to Paris. I have a few friends in Ireland. I have yet to visit Ireland.
As to french, my wife can speak french. I can understand a little bit. It is a very difficult language to learn & master.
Genetics? Wow! What area in particular? If it is on plants, I have question for you.
Regards

oh la la... paris, my second home away from home..! i go there every so often... a couple of times a year... my ex-bf lived there for a while, and i also have other friends living in paris, so i have to say paris has been very good to me... :)
french is indeed not easy to learn, and speaking it is far more difficult than reading... i have stopped learning french for a couple of years now, so am considering taking some conversational classes... hopefully that will help my application for an internship next year in paris too....
well, try me with the plant genetics question... i am studying mainly bovine genome (fancy name for studying cows :D ) but the principle should be similar...
daBoss... not quite frankenstein but hopefully spiderman?! lol... more likely cow-man... what kind of superpower do you it will have....? hmm.....

I love Paris too. My real honeymoon was in Paris. The only thing is it is very expensive there. Cost of living is so high. Lucky me, when my wife was seconded to Paris we were living like expat there. Every thing (apart from our food) was paid for.
Let me think of a question & I will ask you.

hello... if you think paris is expensive, dublin is worse... why do you think i go to paris..? shopping, walk walk, look look, eat in cordon bleu restaurants... :) anyway, usually when i'm there, there are always cheap flights and i get free accomodation with friends, so it's all good... :D
when you were in paris, have you ever tried the thai restaurant in belleville called krung thep (hope i'm getting the spelling right)..? they serve wonderful authentic thai food... unlike many places that modify food to suit european taste... yumm.....

I ate a lot of french food, chinese & vietnamesse food too. I have not tasted thai food in Paris. You are the first person I know that tell me dublin is expensive. I may consider flying to dublin next year but no date yet
LiLiaN

errm.... chinese food in paris is only so-so in my experience... maybe i'm in the wrong restaurants (plus i get chinese food here at my aunt's shop - chinese takeaway - so why pay elsewhere for something i get for free?)...
accordingly to several surveys done just a few months back, dublin is the second/third most expensive city in europe... and the lack of world-famous monuments in comparison to other major european cities make it seems like it's not worth it... but of course that is not true...
there's irish charm in lots of things, lots of way.... like visit during st patrick's day (17 march) and it's festive everywhere (but of course prices also higher for accommodation and flights)... there are many historical landmarks (just not as famous as eiffel tower or london tower or colosseum) such as trinity college (my current alma mater - i can bring you to see book of kells for free!), the dublin castle, the christchurch... and other fun things such as the guinness hopstore and jameson whisky distillery....
there are also sessions of irish music in pubs and ceili (irish dancing - think riverdance but lots of fun to take part in).... this is afterall, the motherland of U2, the corrs, cranberries and (god, i can't believe i'm saying this) ronan keating, boyzone and westlife...
