View Full Version : At the work place telephone calls
At your place of work, if say a friend call you up for a chat on your cellphone or landline, are you ok with that or not? Or if you are in an important meeting and a friend calls you up...would that be ok with you?
The reason i asks is that till today, i still find it uncomfortable to call anyone on the cellphone. I feel that i am intruding.....:o

Dino, I would just reply "Hi! How are you. I am in a meeting right now. Can I call you back?"
I will make sure I call them back. This is to show that you remember & appreciate them.
I think it is ok to call people but never insist on talking if the person is busy

I always start with "are you convenient to talk now?" whenever I call someone during office hour. It helps. :)

If during work hours I'll usually ask if he is free to talk before I start to shoot away.:)

i have no problem with anyone ringing me (on mobile) while at work...
phone normally on silent so up to me if convenient to answer or not...
although have said that, if i'm in meeting etc, i don't pick up either...
in fact, i never carry my mobile with me to meeting/seminar etc...
if there's anything important, there's voicemail and one can leave message...
if i do answer, then i'll be off to corridor or the atrium to chat...
not nice to talk while on my desk with others trying to work around me...
i don't give out my lab number for personal call purposes...
and i don't tend to ring people to chat during working hours either...
afterall, everyone's in the same boat - working and busy...

Usually, social calls while at work are usually via cellphone.
No one calls me at my office number. No one has my office number anyway.
If in the meeting, my cell is always set to silent or beep once only. If it is important, leave a message or sms me. Will only answer my cell if work-related calls come in during meeting.

It's OK to make calls or receive them. Problem is having the time to yak on the phone la... Usually, these calls will come in the middle of discussions, etc.:mad:

Thats why i don't usually call office or cellphone during office hours, unless i am certain the party i am calling is expecting my call.

Survey is not a good idea. Get too many of them, banks, economists, stock broking houses, etc....usually shut them off within seconds.
