View Full Version : In the days of MYF.......
Since a big chunk of us grew up with it, care to share some funny moments.
No religious postings please, just funny moments.
I recall one year, during christmas gathering gift exchange(for those who don't know it, boys buy presents for the girls and vice versa)......some boys were snickering so hard because they knew that in one of those big retarded boxes was a good size "cangkul". I wonder whatever happen to that cangkul!!! :D

Dino, I remember that cangkul, but cannot really recall who got that cangkul. Was it Swee See? If you can recall, then I can try to find out what happened to that cangkul now.
Maybe because of it, somebody has become a millionaire.
Can't recall who got it but i think Kay Chan was the one that gave it!!!

Then maybe I try to ask Kay Chan who got that cangkul. The problem is, this Ah Chan does not post (not too sure whether he has register or not). Sigh...

Ausman, my memory no good mah. Okay then, you check with Ruby and let Dino know.
Eh, any other memories or funny moments to share? If not careful, this thread becomes Cangkul thread pulak :p
Yah, one more, you know after the caregroups on Saturday, all the boys and girls will gather in front of the HOG and chat. Sing Chuan was trying to start up his red old motocycle. And guess what happen.....the motorcycle's exhaust pipe literally fell to the ground in front of everyone. Man.....he then pick up the exhaust and took it home.

I remember the gift exchange during Christmas - your gift must be worth a minimum of rm3. I remember there was one year when Kay Chan bought a big and pink soft toy reportedly worth >rm20, most of the girls were hoping to get it...Man, are we a deprived lot or what!

kamkuey...I didn't know you cried. Nvm, you can afford to buy yourself one now.
I remember playing hide and seek in the HOG...some of the hiding places are filthy...smell of cockroach...yucks.
I also remember the durian tree... It bore fruits once and the smartass FOBS pluck the fruit down (kiasu) in case it dropped in the night and someone else will pick it up instead. Never heard of durians being plucked in my entire life. Tot everyone knows that you have to wait for durians to ripen and fall on their own...

Yup....its a religious posting as its based on a religious belief. As a general rule of thumb...any postings which can lead to a religious discussion of faith should not be posted. Its a very, very sensitive issue which can lead to heated debates. But you can wish everybody a Merry/Happy Christmas though!! :)

I remember at one of the MYF annual camps, we played this muddy slimmy game. I think it's "Dirty Harry". Wow, this Eric Hong was so enthusiastic that he almost stripped his pants. I remember using up the whole bottle of shampoos after that..trying to get rid of the stench but to no avail.
I remember during one of the camps a particular group of boys "kena" complained from a Catholic Sister for making noises at the dormitory and this Mr. Ling has to keep watch of us till dawn. I remembered the Sister called us "Un-Christian" but the fact that we were praising God (a little too loud though) :D .
Anyone remember this? I think Jimbo, Ausman, Kay Chan, Lee Kee & Lee Chong were in that dorm.
I remembered, Jimbo's leg was swollen that "zam buk" could do no help when he clashed with Kay Chan (kaki besi) during the football game.
I suddenly remember so many things......
Heheheh....camp was fun. I only recall one particular incident where
JC went around at night and record people snoring. He played his interview of the people snoring at the end of the camp. I think he got into a little trouble for that. :D

Dino, that was was my 1st MYF camp in Fraser's Hill in 1990. Can't believe it, 14 years have passed.
Yeah....long time ago.....but i think the fried rice at the Fraser's hill place is still the best!!! Also Yoke Seng's sketch where he slip and said
"Everyday only make love" had the counsellors eyes wide open. I think some church members where there when it happened. :D

My 1st MYF camp was in Penang. My brother enrolled my sis and I in. Almost didn't attend the camp coz my brother was involved in a motorbike accident shortly before the camp - broke some ribs and puctured one of his lungs. I stayed at the Ipoh Hospital and took care of him for about a week. Finally went because he insisted.

That hideous experience was in Penang lah!!! After Penang hill, everybuddee got lost (bcos it wuz almost 8pm and was pitch dark) - but still the BESTEST would be BEREMBUN in Camerons - thumps all other hiking trails in the peninsular Malaysia down!! Given the choice, I would want that memorable hike thru' Robinson's falls and the MARDI (cauliflower farm) again!!!!

Anson's right.. It was the Penang trip... All us poor folks had to squeeze into the lorry... That's not the worst part... The worst part was when someone farted in the canopy-covered lorry
I remember another camp in Cameron. In the bus, on the way down, Mr. Big Cannon talked non-stop to this girl. He was babbling away when he suddenly puked into a plastic bag. Just as soon as he puked, he continued talking, as if nothing happened... respectttttttt.

I remember at one of the MYF Musicals, I almost fell from a double-storey makeshift "staircase" built by our strong brother jcWong. I think it was "The Unshakeable Kingdom" musical (80's).
The "stairs" were made up of desks stacking on top of one another and when I approached the peak trying to reach the "crown" hanged about 30 feet from the ground, the desks started shaking and rattling so hard. Fortunately I did not lose control and able to regain my balance and get the crown. Gee...berak tahi hijau after that.
Praise God for HIS UNSHAKEABLE KINGDOM.
Sorry-lah Alka, that time no training in architecture design or civil engineering.... :D

Talk about this, Benny the Tinyfly Liew has some years ago created a site - www.myfmusical.faithweb.com - just take a brief browse, pal! But the info starts from the ones in 1996 onwards - sorry, no unshakable kingdom data and those memorable times Kelvin Ding used to thump on the badly-run piano in the ACS Old Hall - now ACS Primary Hall..... :)

Yeah yeah - CNY 1989 - I remember singing Sandi Patti's Via Dolorosa - but still I prefer "The Promise, The Hope" in 1988 - where Al Cheok did "He's Alive" by Don Francisco and Fishboy did "The Fighter's Song" - hehehe!

alka, the unshakable kingdom, what an irony.
i remembered once there was an abundance of bananas from the banana tree in HOG that we have to resort to forcing the losers (in our basketball game in acs) to eat the bananas just so that the bananas don't go to waste.
Anybody remember the musical in which they were trying to do a shadow show of Jesus's cruxification, and Tony(the MYF president 92) at that time went on stage with his glasses, and then we saw Jesus's shadow wearing a pair of glasses. People started cracking up laughing, the you can see Tony panicking and took of his glasses. Boy!! That was funny!!!! :D

I remember Mr Ling lead us to a hike across the little hill. Wow...the sand there were like silk lah...
At the little bay we spotted a stream where we did almost everthing in it and with it: minum, mandi, kencing, cuci bendera and also sometimes berak there. Goodness me, anyone wonder why the rice tasted so salty at one of the dinner? :D
I remember lying on the shores after dinner and some of us saw the shooting stars. I also remember someone farted in our sleeping tent. It was "si peh chow-fetid". Who is the culprit?

On top of that I remember clearly that someone forgot to bring cooking oil and we had to send the most handsome guy or rather cute and innocent guy to charm the teaching college gals to sapre us some cooking oil.

Christmas is approaching. Dino talked about caroling during our MYF days.
I remember stopping at Mrs. Cheok's house is fun. Lots of goodies and cookies. The best part was we always end by singing her a "Happy Birthday" song.
Another best stop was Lee Kee and Lee Chong's mansion. Wallop all the food you can. Plentiful!
Hmm...if Dino laments about the carolers "hangat hangat tahi ayam" singings, you should look at the guitarists...fullamak, "bengkak" 5 fingers, lesu another five.
Tabik to all the carolers...O Holy Night is my all time favourite.

Yeah........praticing.....ughh......also whats funny was when one moron forgot his/her naration, a fool would try to help. Then all of a sudden, the moron and fool shout the same naration at the same time. Hehehheehe....
And Alk...those guitar players...fulamak......respect laaaaa.....I recall the guitarists to be Anson,Ray,Ausman,Teik Hun,Allan,Highwayman.
Those were the days!!!!

FYI, I dunno lah - but the Musicals have been shifted from the traditional CNY period to Christmas since 2003.......Carolling? Macam biasa aje....but vocals wise I believe strongly that carollers our time were much better and robust in their singing compared to the ones now.....no good projection......

Yeah yeah yeah - and you were the only MYFer who had a Yamaha FG320 - superb acoustic guitar in its time leh......while many others including me were kapok users - no regrets anyhow, just like Lynex Ling (correct me if I am wrong) who used to goreng some Scorpions and the Shadows numbers even on a Kapok, so did I....................

Oh talk abt the Chieng mansion during carolling, perpetually famed for the chariupau......

Not too long ago I got an email from a brother asking the ex-MYF'ers to sponsor some youths so that they can go to mission trip or something like that. Without hesitation a NO came out from me (not too sure about the others). Gee...I remember those days, we have to make book marks, doing odd jobs, gardening, baby sit just to raise money. Nowadays they just take short cut- ASK AND YOU SHALL BE GIVEN - but the wrong way.
pssst..psst... there was some sponsors from generous elder MYFers at our time (80's) who remained anonymus..even the HOG rental was sponsored (half) .. :)

I remember I even had to dig a sand trap for our Mr. Moses to practice his golf skills beside Mr. Kuppusamy's house some years back. Had to dig it with just a cangkul summore. Backbreaking job man.

Had to leave early that evening. My little rascal felt out of place. Adults gathering is definitely not suitable for him. Will catch up with you some other time.

a little off topic here .. but... wat the heck...
during the old times, the MIF boys n gals of chin hock church will do annual spring cleaning service for folks in kg china before CNY. i remember once we went to the "Volkswagon Auntie" house opposite Ah Mu seafood restaurent and i was delegated the job to clean up the bookcase.. I was caught red-handed reading the ancient issues of reader's digest, instead of dusting... :o
good thing is at the end of the day, in addition to receiving love-offering on behalf of the MIF, everyone also get personal ang pows...
Nowsdays, such service no longer existed.. i think the younger generation dun even know that we had such projects in the past.

This was entirely too cool not to share!
