In this modern age, almost everyone send SMS via handphone. A lot of people have short form or abbrevation in their SMS.

There are many occasion I received SMS, I failed to understand the message. I think SMS must be clear & precise.

For example, my wife SMS me "I bought a few tins from the mkt. "

I replied "We have so many container at home, why do you buy a few tins?"

She replied "a few things"

What is your view?

If you had a fight with your partner, don't use sms to talk things out. Because sms can't show your emotions.

I like it because I think it is less intrusive. The receiver can choose to respond immediately or later. Maybe be in a meeting or inconvenient moment to talk. If ring, then he has no choice but to talk. Also, I hate leaving voice-mail. It is also cheaper to communicate by SMS with people overseas, and can SMS anytime without worrying about different time zones.

Silent mode lah...some silly people put fancy ringtone for SMS. Imagine it goes off in a meeting?

We have missed call function and also it's fair to call the person if you're asking for some information. We have duplex communication, why don't utilize it? Just imagine the SMS came and it say, "Are you free?". What are you gonna do? Reply "Yes?" Ai yo....SMS really being abuse.

my phone is SO old it doesn't even receive SMS (or text messsages - whatever you want to call them) properly... either call me on my cell and leave a msg (if work) or i will pick up if i am not in a meeting. for me email is a much better way of communicating, or IM.

also i screen my calls - i have no problems not picking up the phone and letting whoever it is leave a voicemail. i will call back lah, i'm not mean, but i don't feel pressured to respond right away to anything. if it's important they will leave a msg.

but my cell phone is dying liao (it's 6 years old lah) so i better get all my contact numbers together so i can trade it in for a newer phone. then i won't have excuses not to text people since it won't swallow up all my text msgs... hehehehehehe

I'm using O2 XIIm currently. Backing up your contacts is a breeze coz you can sync with MS Outlook. Unlimited storage of contacts!

maybe my best defence against the SMS thingy is to keep my old phone that cannot even accept SMSs...
