View Full Version : Mini Penang Excursion (56k beware)
Got a chance to work up north for 3 days. Stayed over at Penang Island and met up with song cm. More photos will follow.
View from my hotel room at night overlooking Gurney Drive.
My Canon A400 did not do justice to the beauty of lights here.

When in Penang, hawker centers are the best.
Here's a partial shot of Gurney Drive hawker center.
By the way, they have moved from the corner of Persiaran Gurney to somewhere along the road to Batu Ferringi.
It was very very quiet after they moved. People are not going there anymore.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v229/obenix/gurney-drive.jpg
Here's a hawker center on New Lane (Lorong Baru). Much busier and tastier.

This is Penang-style Chee Cheong Fun. Chili with Prawn Paste.

Bridge, of course. I've only taken the ferry once in my lifetime and that was during a school trip, when I was 10 years old.

Yep...definitely the best laksa i ever tasted...but Song said they use toilet paper one worr... :worried:
If travelling with kids use ferry more fun....kids enjoy the seabreeze. But for business trip i used the bridge.
SongCM mentioned that Penang Road laksa is better. After tasting both laksa, I concur with him that the Penang Road one is indeed tastier.

as for penang bridge or the ferry.....really depends, if we are already nearer to the ferry...we would take the ferry across..and if we hv to time. taking the ferry the slack part is taht we have to wait for the ferry to come before we can enjoy it!!

An alternative to Penang laksa is at SS2 pasar malam. An uncle selling laska from his van.
Agreed that Or Jian is still best in Sitiawan. Except that Penang Or is dem big one. As big as my thumb whereas Sitiawan Or is as big as my earwax or something out of my nostrils.
For char kuey teow in Penang, go look for it at Lorong Selamat in the daytime. They are closed at night.

So I go puchong eat free ah? just mention your name?
There is also this place in Damansara Perdana selling Nga Choi Kai, kai si hor fun and nothing else. Their kong loh hor fun damn cun man! think they use "kas kas" in the sauce. Very addictive. Their kong loh does use the regular kicap pekat but some kind of concoction which contains oyster sauce! yummy!!!

Fulat,
The funny thing about Sillypore here....I always thought the food here sucks big time. That was because I used to go to hawker centre in the malls.
But over the years.....here they have almost anything from Msia + from other delicacies from other countries. Kong Lo Mee, Kampung Koh Black sauce noodle + chilly sauce also in the menu here. Cosmo-malaysianisation and globalisation. So far...they have all except Penang Laksa....the laksa here is curry in Msia.

Local food fares in S'pore very poor...however, western or Japanese or hotel buffet much better than M'sia. M'sia hotel buffet food sucks.

Yeah! you know why? coz they serve pork that's why. When you have buffet breakfast, they serve you real ham and real bacon. When you have a char siew pau, it is real char siew.
