Life overseas is good if you are willing to make sacrifices. I have pretty well adjusted my life overseas and would never want to return home to Malaysia. At the end of the day, its whether or not you are willing to take the risk. :)

dude, what sort of risk? not being able to find a job?
Job wise, it all depends on your field. You probably know by now, job market around the world is not as good as it is in the 90's. Your best bet if you want to work overseas is to secure a job first and then move.

[Banned word]!! left home ages ago lah! nowadays I depend on other people's mummy or daddy or brader to cook for me. But of course have to pay lah.
I think the best place for you is indeed Brazil. Stay in Rio. U can visit copacabana beach where ur eyes will feel tired before your body does. If you are papaya man, than that is the most furtile papaya farm u can find on this planet. All firm and solid and not over ripe. Somemore the mardi gras carnival is also held there every year. Like will be heavan for you. Since in Rio, u seldom get asians, you will be like a diamond in the field of coal. But make sure dont pick up the wrong ladies, otherwise their banana might be bigger than yours and i tell you, they will not hesitate to poke your **re.

here is the field of dreams lah (the movie) ...not land of dreams. fulat, depends on what u want to do overseas. job wise for education, not too good at the moment, which is why i still have to continue to next level of qualification :(
but if u want to be on a fast track to your graduate degree, don't come here. the programs here take superlong to complete the coursework requirement. other places like UK, Australia go faster because there is minimal coursework requirement.
well, ftan and cyclone are in the land of dreams - but they took the chicken way out - they're studying there - not working.
Fulat, you just made me laugh at your last post... One thing I can say about you.. bugger, you are definitely in the wrong field... get out of IT and work for a travel magazine or advertising firms.. you will prosper there...
for holiday maybe but migrate there for that reason u got to be crazy dude!
Been to Bali, cireria/NazaRia???
Step1. Accumulate your money here or some other place (good forex)
Step2. Resign
Step3. Pay all your taxes
Step4. Migrate to Bali
Beautiful place. Culturally rich. Stuffs are freaking cheap.
Beer at RM5 for big bottle (happy hours)
T-shirts for RM6 per piece (S,M,L&XL only) If Fulat will cost him RM8..
Large papaya farm...
Papaya fruit of all sizes and colour... Fresh for picking all year round...
Who is eric cartman? Where art thou?
I been to quite a number of places and u know what? to me, nothing beats home lah. Still like the place here although the weather can be a pain at time.
I am in the America's ;).
In any event, as i said in my post, its good if you are willing to make sacrifices.
The spending power of the west is excellent. I can afford things i want without having to blow my budget. Food wise, nothing beats Malaysia food. But here in North America where lots of other immigrants imigrate, we do get a lot of food variety.
eric cartman, which part of US are you in?
cyclone is right. this study thingy takes a long time to complete. i can't think beyond surviving this term. hehe. i remember your words: "professional student" - ppl who make a profession of being a student.

Hi Guys,
Mind me share my humble opinions after many years tinkering to stay here a while, there a while and in the end....no exactly right spot....a tiny spot called Sillypore.
Working outside Malaysia is a good feeling....but after a while....comes to what you want or shall I say what you can get at the end of the day over there. Western countries is a good place to gain your experience in work and life (freedom....do what you want (wohhhhh....think about those days....similar long endless list like Fulat reminding us about those ACSs days....ahhhhh...lots of good feeling and also not so "wish to advertise here.
Must say...opportunities in Asia...is super (not the brand Super for coffee). That explains I am now in Sillypore...a place to work but not a place to stay. Malaysia is also a good place but sadly still the "Ahmm" rules the day....more working using emotion, race and red tapes rather than Quality. The saying goes, Malaysia has more quantity but little quality. I do see Malaysia has the potential but still in the wrap of wrong fundamentals.
If given an opportunity, work in country to max your savings and then retire in quiet place...New Zealand.
Singilipore ? Good but stay long...you will end up bonkers. But hey...I am moving with the flow. So far the PAP Yes Policy works for a foreigner like me much better than in Malaysia.
Heard that KC going to London....all the best to him. Ask him out to give him farewell maken also susah oreadi. Hope he watch his back when over there....lots of " XXXX" in particular Asians...hahahah.

Guys and Gals,
I think there has been some sort wong idea about Bali. Yes...the place is excellente....but the price woooohhhhh. I think I better go to those over commercialise like Phuket, Krabi in Thailand, worrying about the current bombing and still considerably cheap.
I just popped over there after the Bali bombing....thought I have a very good bargain going over during those freak and scary days to take advantage of the falling price but.....sad to say still very expensive.
Bali is a nice place but the present inflation in Indonesia just too much. I have strong affinity for Indonesia...used to be my favourite place long time ago...arrrh...those days. Very cheap then but now...wohhhh...more expensive than in Sillypore.

How to apply to work in Hooters ah?
ACWAN
11-07-2004, 09:08 PM
Application:
For a start...
1) you need to go to Chow Kit Road and oberseved the after 2400 human activities. OR
2) I heard the hearsay that Bangsar is happening....errrr...not the Rich and Famous but the unusual activities. Hearsay that former Mr Asia, Malek Noor favourite ground...sorry...Malek...I have no intention to flame you...your muscles oozes few years of you taking the crown of Mr Asia but I still wonder why you are not married and beeing informed by insider you like the other side of the world??
OR, Johor Bahru ak former Hadyai of Malaysia. We know the land of beauty and friendliness of Malaysian but please take note the late night parade at the main road...happening...hhahahha..not illegal road racing but aisay...they are for public viewing just beside the main police station???? haahha. I wonder, I wonder...what is happening in Malaysia....asalamulaikun but banned deeds just right in front of you...
The main thing for a successful application must be well endowed parts...smile a lot, and very very short ......... (they say it is partly due to the location of the restaurant is located in humid place like Spore therefore the "Company Logo / trademark" must be clearly visible than their western counterpart like USA, Australia.....

Wah, our apek kong makes Sing sounds like getting to be a nice place to live in - unless you're married (better not post too much lest daLady chances upon this thread...).
But I believe this type of things everywhere oso got wan lah.... I was in Chow Kit very late one night (ah, not to play play but on support duty - one of the bank's disaster recovery center is located there) and the pimps there approached me - boy oso got, 9 year old girl oso got, man oso got, man who thinks he's a girl oso got, girl who thinks she's a man oso got, old woman who thinks she's till young oso got.... wah, I gabra man... the pimp say, cheap one oso got, expensive one oso got, cheap-cheap-good-good one oso got...
How?

Guys,
Please, I am not here to condone this activities. What I stress here...Sillypore system. The government here knows how to turn everything and anything into money making machine......in legal terms of course.
I do know "these" things are everywhere, sad to say KL was a big shock to me. I was there last year attending some short courses (sorry guys didnt call you up cos I was on a very tight schedule).I seen lots of youngsters hanging out everywhere....doing things in public which wooohhhh...if I have kids I will prison them till 18 years old...hahhaha...I thhought this thing only happening in developed countries but...yeah...but, I have lost touch with Malaysia...more of like Spore.
Bukit Bintang area is famous. I am still very puzzled on why the enforcement don't do anything on this tourist belt area.....you can imagine...a lone guy walking along the main road being hassled left and right....'openly'. I thought this was the opening advertisement of Welcome To Malaysia Tourism now and forever...chamm lohhhh.
Spore nice to stay? hahhaha.. Guys and gals...I am not "cheng hoo lang" - government people. I am just a person trying to make it big....work and struggle like mad....still sight...cannot like Fulat or Roland Low....you know...in sillypore....everything looks stylish but pocket empty...drink wine and champagne but lots of hutang...chammm man.
Guess what..heard of Pulau Belakang Mati...the beloved Sentosa Island. Soon....multi big conglomerate is opening a casino to rival those of Vegas??? Pssss....previously those die hard addicts usually goes to Batam? (never imagine right?) The government realise lots of ang mah and ah pek frequently goes there to let go steam and lots of money invested to Gudang Garam country....now they want to open one next across a stone throw away.
I think I better pause the talking about this land of opportunity and turn to economics or else you guys thinking I m promoting "peace" ahahahah

Hello cirera,
Sillypore a place to work? dunno to promote or demote...cos everyday I back late....never see the sun....when see also (lunch), time to rush back and then resume till late. I know people say I shall be greatfull to get this job but then....you know...you open the door gate early in the morning and money starts flowing out. Good to earn money as the cost of living vs facilities and opportunties are excellente but stressful loh! For me...some how after years of working....sort of thinking it is normal to work and work...hahha..my screw already loosed. My compass bearing a bit weird, people work teruk and called it stress but I call it way to go....chammm.
I am in this place also....hmmm by coincidence I think. Stay with SHELL for few years and somehow end up here, dunno how.
Entertainment? OK for tourist but after a while sama sahaja. Good for young people. Me thinking of saving a big anthill and hope later to go and stay with the land of sheep (New Zealand) or Canada...big fat hope.
Malaysia...as mentioned by Fulat has lots opportunities. Well said....just that it doesn't fall into my expectation at this moment....hope to in the future, who knows.

No doubt $$ is gettng stronger vs Ringgit ( I used to think it would end up like banana money just like when under Japanese Occupation....when Malaysia under financial crisis but our former PM...salute you), what's more recently under the new premiership, he has brought in in 50 young top scholars to re-shape Spore. All those scholars from far and near, from A to Z all in the committee.
But guys...not that I don't want to share the happiness here.....there is a catch....money here looks from far....2 kali loh.....but when stay here....there are this special hidden cost....you can save but the government is very smart...difficult to withdraw out...what's more when you are almost kaput....still cannot withdraw in full. Very smart the government. They make sure...you earn double (Spore to Ringgit) but in other terms....you are sort of committed to pay something in return to stay here...work all your productive years here....get a condo( future chicken coop)and then tie you down some more....by the time you know....where is my money???
I think I better not talk too much about Sillypore...in general it is a practical place to live in which explains I end up here instead. have to start from somewhere....

Aiyah!! If you convert of course better than malaysia lah. But than again, I think the singaporeans are having it easy. At least they go anywhere in the world, can still throw money and get something in return. For us earning RM, we go overseas and throw money, ppl just look and laught and offer you a candy in return!! si pek tu lan!!
Actually, in Sg, only the housing cost a bomb but everything else is so affordable!! U drink coffeebean ice bended, u only pay about $4+ or so, but over here, we pay RM10 and above. U go foodcourt, for $2.50, u can eat a bowl of noodles, in KL, u go coffee shop, u pay RM2.50, they give you 1 cup of Milo Ais and 1 cup of Sik Char!! In disco, u pay about $150+ u get 1 bottle of whisky, over here u pay about RM300. In Sg, u go Geylang, u pay $50, in KL u pay RM200+ (i think). The price I paid for my car, if I pay the same amount in Sg, I would probably get a 5 series.
Therefore, in conclusion, ACWAN you are right to remain in Sg and work there. Quality of life is indeed better.

actually $ for rm, property prices also not expensive in singapore. prime property in kl (golden triangle) is not cheap... at least rm1m for the size of a hdb flat...
the other thing i'm sick of is s'poreans complaining abt expensive cars... this is totally untrue. some cars are cheaper in s'pore AFTER conversion. if u don't believe me, check out the audi a8 price...

Wah lau eh! Wished I was back in Spore now leh.. Furthermore now exchange rate about RM2.25 to S$1 (last week). When I was working there, it went to as low as 2.02! But agreed with Fulat that food is quite cheap and reasonable there, just don't be typical Malaysian and convert it to RM everytime you buy something. In hawker centres, can get chap fan for S$2 and drinks for S$0.50. Not so much traffic jam. After clubbing can take a cab home, don't have to worry about road blocks. Sinjapor memang tak boleh lah! For starters, we drink fresh water, they drink recycled toilet water so that make us superior already!! hahaha...
Want to hear more singapore stories, buy me unlimited milo-kosong-ais and nasi lemak + ayam goreng, I can tell you all the bullshit attitude of a typical Sinjarporean from the day I found out that Sinjarporen are actually our neighbours from down under, yeah, you got me, down under, right next to my [EDITED: vulgar].
If people from far and away land dunno how to pronouce Genting, then we can forgive lah, but our neighbours, whom mostly were immigrants from Malaysia, after staying in Sinjarpore also cannot pronouce Genting. They call Jenting, that I cannot tahan lah.
When we go up north, dont tell me we also dunno how to pronouce their places of interest. We dont call "Phuket" as "[EDITED: vulgar]" right?
But, all negative things sure got their positive side also lah. At least, their "CENSORSHIP" policy more lenient than ours. This forum is proof already.
