Not too long ago, a thread was put up in year 87 for forum members to describe what has since happened in their lives after ACS. A number of forummers lives were abridgely described for the better understanding of their old, ...and new, friends.

We have had a lot more brothers and sisters since that time, and this is a continued avenue for the new bloods to tell their story and go back down memory lane and bring new friends along in the journey....So, lets go. For those who dont know 'the way', below is the path that has previously been travelled.....

http://www.acs-sitiawan.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1153&page=1&highlight=Canvasses

So, newbloods. Tell us your true post-ACS stories.......we the audience, are listening.

Oh class of 87. Ok initially I thought this is my class as I joined ACS in 1987 lower 6 mah. But the god father said no leh class of 86 lah, oh...
I finished upper six in 89 lor. Then as usual everyone waiting for uni reply. Then the good new for me came in double, one my father suddenly mention that if I would like to study medicine and second one I got accepted to the USM. Is a dilema U see. Choosing USM and Manipal(MBBS) sure any one will take Manipal lor. Is my dream to be doctor but I never asked or requested from my father for this. Just letting faith decide on my future lor.
So happy next question I asked my dad is where did he got the money? He just said that money is not my worried but I concentrate on my studies then money.
But my rational at that time I still worried as I don't wan studied half way have to stopped after because of finacial difficulties.
So I sent a telegram to my so called girlfriend lor-not confirmed yet mah. Bad news from her as the admision for batch of 89-90 is full liao. So off I go to USM taking Bsc lor. First day there I met a girl so so only look but action leh don't want to friend me after few days-rugi dia lah. Hehe.
I took up chemistry as major subject as I hated biology which studying plants not human. Then I joined the Pelepas-Reserved army training which becomes my majar studies there. I enjoyed my stay in Penang for one year lor going shotting throwing hand granade , practice combat war practice gerilla and conventional war. Because of this training I slimmed down so much..
So U know lah girl like so easy lor but I was not the play boy type so not much of chances lor.
Most funny part of staying in penang is like I' m unemployed no need to study go to lecture as I like. Definately no need to study one leh( Fun leh :p ).
Then I met this sitiawan Nan Hwa student taking food tech but also waiting to go to Manipal. So we got common interest we really enjoyed alot together..
First semester exam I failed in exam in 2 subjects. Failing this is no joke ok need to see the Dean lor. So I need to explained why I failed. For the Dean is a surprise for a China man to fail exam in Uni lah. But after that they understand me so no problem lor.
Wah so long typing can I continue later... :squeeze:

Loctor, what is the excuse you gave to your Dean? Never study and fail still can excused ah.
Very easy lor I told that I just waiting to go to Manipal to study Medicine so that why this thing happen lor. First I never buy or borrowed any books to study so study from the notes everyday absent and my notes is not complete lor, so studied from what ever I have lor that why fail lor but I passed in the 6 subject lor, quiet good already he also agreed lor. Next question he asked is why I join then, better to go work somewhere. But I tried my father said cannot need to continue study cannot stop stop..
The Dean advice is when I go that time please inform then first...
Next semester I promised to study hard don't want to fail again and prove that I can do it in this uni lor. Then the funny part is applying for minor subject which I got to know last minutes when I follow my course mate to the library. He's filling up a form which I asked what he's doing. Oh he said U don't know meh we need to apply for minor subject lor. I asked him what is minor, he said any thing I want except medicine or pharm lor. I asked him what he choosen, he said Computer Science lor.
So I also filled up the form computer science like him. Later I found out that this is the hot cake minor which 80% of the student applying for the subject lor. On the result day my name was there and my friend was not there but later he applied he got it. There is one guy so frus with me because I got it and I actually not going to continue my study there but got this minor. He complained to the lecturer mention my name. I felt so bad and angry for his telling him I actually don't mind if I don't get it but because U complained, I would not give up the subject for him(stupid fellow). :(

My History :p

====
1981
====
I was born at the same day as the Wesak Day occured, coz Buddha SMS-ed me, that i should be born.

Oh yes, the eldest in family and go kindergarten, my mum start start to make me read + write Chinese words, learn my A-Z, learn to count, learn to wash my brother and sister's shoes. Hey, why i need to wash for them oh? They can wash themselves wut. But later i know why. Im the eldest and must be independent and jaga the rest.
She have to tap rubber, very cham and poor that time. My grandparents object her from being a nurse. Do lots of parttime jobs just to support us. Dad's working as carpenter, build house under the hot sun. Very kesian oso.

=============
1988 --> 1993
=============
In the hard times oso, me, my brother and sister help parents to go to ladang, tanam cili in the early morning (5 am), and oso help petik and kutip water melon, go cangkul rumput. Ppl go play2, i got ladang kerja. Hahahaha

My dad was very sick at this time, mum do all the work. So, when she work with my uncle's restaurant. While she work, i will do the cooking and washing for the brother and sister. Oh yes, very tough time. But glad we managed to cope with it.

I remember my class 1B teacher, make me stay back in the class, coz my result is "FAIL" hahahaa. Wut to do, my mum din't defend me, but she told Puan Ting to continue. I remember my other classmate "Muzzaffar" cried. Hahaha, wat a girlie boy. Nvmd,i oso kena shoot and rotan. Puan Ting very close wif my mum, so i scare scare of her. Have to be good boy.

Academic wise? Still zombying around and get to know with the wrong croud of friends, so i dont really know what is called studying. When come to standard 6, my class teacher told me, "U never go to tuition one?" Oh god, WTF is a tuition i oso dono at that time.

====
1994
====
Study in 1A4, the 4th class in terms of Notority and 4 from behind in terms of academic. Hahahaha :laugh: but i enjoyed being in a stupid class. CK is my classmate then, with Nga Mei Hoon as well. Used to lepak, play basketball before Mandarin class. Hehehehe

Form 1 too, i dono which poop-head Form 6 guys start to talk bout cute girls (it's Athena and ur friend Linda loh ahahah). Hey Ath, juz wanna say, i dint know u r so hot and popular even among Form 6 boys ah. What's ur secret? I was like huh? Siape tu? U wan 2 know her, u go find her lah. I was enjoying my Loh Mee + Kg. Koh Cili sos, when those monkeys with drinking problem ask me stupid question. Why ask me how do i know wor...?

====
1995
====
Go to clever class in form 2A7? Juz becoz i dont want to left out of the gang. I haf to study hard loh. Sigh...ape la....my good friend Lawyer Hong's son? Oki, i was corrupted by my classmates liao, especially Mr. Yew Soon Hong. Other dirty minder classmates are --> Gary Lim, Colin Gan (why they called him Colli dog anyway?), and Mr. Wong Sze Yeow, they are playful lasttime.

But i myself used to be quiet boy throughout my primary and secondary. Don't really talk so much one. I guess due to my mum phobia threaten to ask teacher punish me. I wonder why those days, teacher so fierce one?

====
1996
====
My PMR days, oh well, start to kiasu abit, coz dad always compare me wif my neighbour, oso my classmate that time, and my neighbour's daddy always say im stupid. Oki, he pissed me off, so i study. And cheh, i so ang kong get 6A1B. (I hate BM, course when i get a B for that? B for Barbarian i guess...ekekeke). Reason is, Mr. Leong at that time, he told me in the toilet while i was pee-ing wif him. Hehehe, hey, boy PMR kah? U will get good grades one, coz ur brain develop liao mah. He remind me again.

I oni remember i joined Young Enterprise and it's fun doing some toys and force the children to buy it. My classmates, are major members. Oki, Ath oso in there tooo( What's her position liao ah? I dono). Honestly, at that time, Ath and her other 3 friends, are really irritating me. And all in my heart i want to say is "YOU GALS SUCK, YOU ALL TOTALLY SUCK!!!". Sorry Ath, if u read this, but that was last time mah, right o not? I guess is because ur in Linda's gang so i straight away put a "DEATH" sign.

====
1997
====
Went to smartie pants class which is 4Sc2? I guess this is my punishment from god. I don't study so hard, i play alot of computer games starting this year. Who ask me to stupidly got addicted to computer games. ("Heroes II"). I got top 10 from behind in the class and that's really and honour. COOL hahahaha.

Started to learn Programming in BASIC, C++

====
1998
====
SPM starts liao, boo hooo hooo, im still very blur, but i study to learn my year's top student's process to study and get good results. Computer is my game again. Goto hell books. I hate those ugly chanting me to sleep sanskrits. Sigh, except sejarah of course, hehehe. I dono why i love Sejarah. Maybe because of my teacher, who act like a pondan. Damm funny.

But anyway cukup makan for SPM result, after that, i start to notice liao, either i wan 2 go UTM o not. I was fed with this dream to go Local U. Oki, i regret liao after i got my results.
At that time i was in dilemma, that i wan 2 go to Kolej Lagenda (waht a stupid franchise of UPM?) or go Form 6.

===========
1999 - 2000
===========
Finally, go Form 6 loh, since i din't meet the high standards of local Unis. Oki, fine, Form 6. My miserable and painful and suffering year. Wat a sucky and sad year.

My kuku kaki kena cabut, coz of infection, cannot do sports, haf to be good boy, study. But still dont want to study properly. Im more interested in my Computer games and computer knowledges. Cool, i got offered by Mr. Ling Keng Neo to continue the Poor Man's IT Programme for IT Club.

It was fun coz i meet new Pantai friends and a special girl that i quite like her, she's the same, but im just too shy at that time to approach. She had to make the move. Oh poop. What a shame. We keep looking at each other sometimes in the lab but did nothing. It's was so painful moment. Something u like but u cannot touch it. Nevermind, it din't happened anyway. I have some family problems at that time too....not a right time too. STPM oso near. I wan to 2 go to Uni oso. Too many problems liao. Juz give up. Study first.

Went to UPM, got my first choice "Computer Science - Software Engineering". I was darn happy man, i got what i wanted. But when goto uni, it was not so fun at all. My lecturer sucks, i can't imagine someone hates computer to become my programming teacher. What? I gotta do programming for him? Sigh, teruk teruk. This is not wat i want lah. Teach me something bully me lah.

I got sad liao, so goto lab, i found a hidden treasure "LINUX" hehehe , the penguin fan from a Malay senior. He taught me a baby step to go on to learn LINUX. Cool. Forget bout the lecturer. Do LINUX.

Believe me, getting As and a 1st class in UPM is really really really EASY. We, kam cheng wif lecturer, we study hard, we can be guaranteed to get A one. Hehehehe

In UPM, i cannot believe, i start to study hard and court girls hard too hehehe. Lots of try and error there. Sigh, i got rejected by a girl I like just because she say im a playboy but she asked me to help her in her computer studies. What on earth is this?. :( Im not wut.... Believe my friend, computer made me get to approach more girls. Don't blame me please, blame the computer okay.

Oki nvmnd, i went to Nilai College i met a very cool "China" doll when doing practical. Very smart and clever and hardworking. Everytime study in lab, until one day her PC gila liao and tok to me. My chance come again. Muahahahah, oki, we went out. She will come everyday to lab to meet my friends and me. Oki later on, we on liao hehehe. But when she's going to grad, we go on our ways since distance can be a big problem. My mum objected too (also because she's 3 years older than me?). Nvmnd, it's a wonderful moment with her. Take her to see UPM farms, animals, and everywhere she want to go. Since it was last day we will meet. My biggest mistake was let her hug me oni, and i din't kiss her...:( wat a waste hahahaha

I feel compelled to share my experience with my fellow ACSians. Perhaps the long tale that is to unfold may not be relevant to those who are in high positions now, or those who are highly qualified or those who are professionals in their own right or those who come from wealthy homes. This story is meant for those who feel that they are stuck in the rut probably because they could go no further in their career with an SPM/STPM or because they could not afford to go overseas to further their education. I believe there are many ACSians out there in similar positions and I was one of them about twenty years ago.

I finished my Form Five in ACS Sitiawan in 1964 and amongst those who were with me then were Toh Muda, Jamaludin, Datuk Siva, Dr. Ling Hee Liong, Kong Yee Leng, Nagappan, Chew Cheng Poh, the late Ging Neng Kwong, Ong Boo Kok (son of Chin Peng), Dr. Wong Chin Lang, Diong Siew Ching, Mah Hang Meng, Lau Cheong Meng, Nik Che Kok, Lau Cheong, Doris Ding Nguk Leng, Wong Yong Bat and many others whose names I still remember.

I had wanted to be a doctor and had intended to do it in India and so immediately after finishing my Form Five I left for KL and enrolled into Cyma College (a branch of Stamford College then) to start off my 6th Form. There I met a lecturer of the college who had finished his B. Sc. Degree from India. According to him the medical degrees there were not recognized and because of that he chose to study the B.Sc degree which was also not recognized. By then my Form Five (School Certificate) results were released and I didn’t do well much to my disappointment. As I was the eldest in the family and my father’s business was failing I had to make a decision as to what to do next even though my uncle was willing to support me to fulfill my Indian dreams. I had to opt into the teaching profession which according to my list of career choices was last on the list. At that time there was an acute shortage of teachers and if you still can remember Mr. Ling Kah Cheok, at that time he was the headmaster of the Methodist Primary School, Ayer Tawar. He approached my father about offering me a temporary teaching position in the school. I was not too keen when my father told me about the offer. But eventually I had to accept the teaching position but not in Ayer Tawar. I accepted another offer from the late Mr. Ling Chew Siang (Mr. Ling Ong Sing’s father) of the Methodist Afternoon School (the present Methodist English School). I taught in MAS for about a year until I was accepted into the Regional Training Centre (RTC) for teacher-training. The two years teacher-training programme involves full time teaching from Monday to Thursday (which I did in ACS Sitiawan) and on Friday and Saturday I had to report at King Edward VII, Taiping for lectures and during school holidays we were sent to Malayan Teachers College (MTC) Penang for further training.

I finished the RTC training by the end of 1968 and in 1969 and I was posted back to ACS Secondary to teach there. All those years from the time I finished school until 1970 I was harbouring the hope of doing the sciences in the HSC (the current STPM) and little did I realize that I was not very good in the sciences even though at that time I specialized in teaching mathematics and science in the lower secondary classes. It was just like dreaming dreams without taking any positive action and in 1971 I decided to switch to the Arts and I started studying seriously to prepare for the HSC and did History, Mathematics, Economics, and Bahasa Malaysia all at Principal Level and the compulsory paper was then General Paper. I tried to enroll into a correspondence school to study on my own and I even paid the full fees for all these subjects but eventually I just couldn’t keep up with the pace and I decided to ‘buang’ the notes prepared by the school. In the end I decided to study on my own. Studying History and Economics was tough but I managed the two subjects on my own but doing Mathematics to many of my teaching colleagues was impossible. But then I managed to buy a series of Indian publications entitled Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Geometry, Mechanics to prepare for the exams. I had the privilege of receiving some kind of tuition from a temporary science graduate teacher by the name of Paul Ponampalam who taught me each time I had any question to ask him. Boy oh boy, he just refused to do any of the past years’ questions for me if I hadn’t tried them myself. If I am stuck in any problems owing to my carelessness he would squeeze the back of my neck and say things like “Chu Chuan, Oh Chuan Chuan why are you so careless”. That was the scenario I finished my HSC. Under the circumstances I managed to obtain a full certificate but the detailed results was not so good. But the result was enough to enable me to be placed on the HSC salary scale for teachers. Trained teachers with SC qualification would be placed in C2 scale and teachers with HSC qualification placed in the C1 scale. The difference in salary was that the latter was two increments higher than the former. That was somewhere in 1973.

After that I decided to go one stage higher i.e. aim for a degree. It was then that I learned that the University of London was offering what we called the external degree courses. I managed to obtain the address and wrote to them for the University Prospectus and from the Prospectus I found that I could either sit for a degree in Geography, Philosophy or History and of the three I was more attracted to History because in school I was very interested in History. But then to do History for the U of London programmes one would have to sit for a classical language paper. As for the Philosophy paper one would have to sit all 9 papers at one go. I thought that was heavy and eventually I decided to study Geography even though I didn’t do the subject at the HSC level. I registered for the Geography degree with the Senate of the University in 1972 and each registration would last 8 years.

To get started by self-studying especially for a university degree was really very tough. It demands tremendous self-discipline. At that time the only person I knew who did a degree by home-studies was our Mr. Moses Tay. At that time he was already the acting Principal of ACS Secondary and he didn’t have the time to help me. The only thing I learned from him was that he told me “Chu Chuan, prove yourself to be a dud. If you have not proven yourself to be a dud, how would you know that you are a dud. The only way you can prove yourself a dud is by studying hard and if by studying hard and if you still fail then be satisfied that you are a dud.” He further added, “Chu Chuan, it’s a sin to stop studying when you already have an HSC”. All these advice really spurred me on to taken positive action.

Positive actions I took but to be actually really studying is totally a different matter entirely. Initially I planned a very elaborate time table. On paper the time table looked very impressive and for the first 2 months I really started reading and preparing notes but the usual “hangat-hangat tahi ayam” syndrome set in because soon after having started on the time-table, I was distracted by the weekly TV programmes. We had then, Hawaii 5-0, Mannix, Little House on the Prairie and the constant live telecast on football, badminton, world cup and the Olympics. All these programmes put my time-table into disarray. Before I knew it, the year was over. This went on for about 3-4 years and I was getting nowhere. Soon I realized I had to make a decision whether to really pursue a university education or to drop the plan entirely. The one discouraging factor was that I was already working and my income and my wife’s income was quite sufficient to give us a reasonably comfortable life. That’s always the case when you thought what you earn is sufficient and this will tend to make you lazy and lose sight of your ambition and plan.

When Janice came along, I really had to think seriously about getting a degree and get a career advancement. Owing to 2-3 salary revisions, my salary as a non-graduate teacher almost came to a maximum when I was in the early 30s. That was an anomaly and the teachers’ union and the PSD knew about it. In other words, after having reached the maximum in my salary, it would remain stagnant for many years until I retire at the age of 55 and if by then Janice wants a tertiary education my salary would be so small with the passing of time that I would not be able to afford to give her what she wanted.

I was very blessed to have met some of my former pupils who had finished their university education. I called them personally when they came back to school to visit us. They really helped me by giving tips and pointers how to go about preparing myself for the exams. I knew then that I had to put my priorities right. There were two obstacles before me. One was my TV addiction and the other was my tennis addiction. As for the latter, every afternoon, come 4-00 pm I would carry my racket and wait at the tennis court at the SRC. Once I started off with the game I would go home until almost 7-30pm because almost every day after the games we would stay back at the court to “sembang” until dark and by the time we finished dinner and come back from our nightly outings with Janice, it would be almost 10 pm. I knew that to stop the addiction, I had to make the sacrifice to drop the game entirely (which I did) and to replace that I took up jogging which is an activity I could do it on my own without having to find any partner. My wife became my jogging partner and Janice was then already able to cycle around her mini-bike, she came along as well when we started jogging from our home in Sitiawan Garden, through Bintang Estate up to Seri Manjung and back. As for the TV addiction, I knew I had to stop watching TV entirely and I had to cut myself off completely regardless of whether there were any live telecasts on boxing, football, badminton or the Olympics. When that was taken care of, the only thing I had to do was to see to Janice. At that time her favourite nightly spot was the Emporium. So the only thing I did was almost every night after dinner we would take her to the Emporium to let her run around and by 9-00 pm. we were already back.

Doing the BA Geography was tough because by then the country’s education system had already switched to Bahasa Malaysia right up to University level and the problem was in getting reference books in English for my course. There was no internet then for my research and I had to rely on magazines and newspapers’ reports for the latest figures and statistics. I managed to buy some books from London and with that I pulled through 5 long years of studying. There were 2 subsidiary papers on European History which I opted and followed by Geography I, II and III. By the time I passed the 2 subsidiary papers I had to re-register because by then the 1st registration was almost coming to an end. Geography I was mainly on Physical Geography and Human Geography and Economic Geography I. Geography II and III was on mainly on regional geography and economic geography II. I didn’t actually pass with flying colours because I hated the subject so much so that I just refused to draw maps in my answers during the exams.

So from the time I took the 1st exam to the time I finished the BA degree (1984) I took 5 years to complete but if I were to compute from the date of 1st registration i.e. 1972, it was something like 12 years. When I received the result through the mail, my wife and I were very happy and it was indeed a very proud day for me and my wife. Immediately after that many of my friends asked me for the books I used and I gave them all but none of them got anywhere. They were under the impression that if Ho Chu Chuan can do it, they also can. Of course, it goes without saying that behind every successful man is a woman, and that woman is my wife. For 5 long years, whilst I spend all the nights in my study room studying alone, she was all alone in seeing to the 2 girls. By the time when I finished the BA, Jaclyn came along as well.

Immediately after having finished the BA, I thought I might as well put the discipline and strict study regime into good use. At that time one of my ex-classmates, Lau Chong had just finished his LL. B. and Mr. Ling Leong Peng (who was then teaching together with my wife in Sekolah Ahmad Boestaman) had also started off with the Intermediate stage of the University of London LL. B programe. With that going around, I thought I might as well add another 1 more degree behind my name. I had then no interest in practicing as a lawyer. I was more interested in putting after my name the LL. B. degree (more for prestige). I immediately registered with the University of London for the LL. B. degree.

The intermediate stage was easy because, the subjects that I have to study like Criminal Law, the English Legal System, the Law of Contract were matters that I could relate with in my daily life. The newspapers were filled with reports on theft, rape and murder cases and there were reports on breaches of contract. I finished them within a period of study of about 3-4 months. That really gave me the false sense of security and the following year when I studied for the Part I Programme, I used the same method. It was a mistake actually because the subjects that I was suppose to study such as Land Law and the Law of Trusts are so abstract that it was almost impossible for me to understand them by self-studying within a short period of time. I failed the Part I exams miserably and I almost gave up until my wife told me to learn from my mistakes and pick up the pieces. It was indeed another long hard and lonely road. Eventually I finished the LL. B. degree in 1988. Doing the LL. B. was quite easy actually because you can buy all the books you need in the local book shops in KL but doing the BA was tough, really tough because they was practically no guidance at all.

By then I realized that it would be very wasteful for me to stay on as a teacher but nevertheless I took 6 months no pay leave to study for the CLP in the University of Malaya in 1989 and decided that firstly I had to pass the local Bar exam and secondly I just couldn’t just resign from teaching because all my years of teaching would go unrecognized meaning I would lose my pension and gratuity. At that time there were talks that the government would lower the retirement age from 55 years to 40 years and some of my friends asked me to wait. It was indeed very frustrating to wait to retire and to read weekly in the papers about my CLP course mates being called to the Bar. My long wait was eventually rewarded when in 1991, through the help of another former pupils of ACS from the Ministry of Education, I was allowed to retire in December 1991.

You know what, each year when I have to take the exams I have to drive down to the examination centre which was in Anderson School, Ipoh and for 9 long years there was this same gentleman who invigilated me from BA to LL.B all these years.

Mr Chu Chuan! Great live story here, just great. This is what I call a story for younger generation, but actually real life diary. I hope this is a good education for all to use as a example. As a human, we will not be contented with what we have and starved for a better one always. As they say the sky is the limit. So I would say never stop learning and will never be... :)

My History :p

1981

=============
1988 --> 1993
=============

====
1994
====

====
1995
====

====
1996
====

====
1998
====

===========
1999 - 2000
===========

To be continued.....
terror la u dragon... can tell your life summary in one post... hehe...

Part II of my life canvas.
After STPM, working as a part-time teacher in SM Vocational Sri manjung while waiting for result. Taught Fm 4 there...mostly boys students, most of them taller than me.
THe much awaited for STPM result out (I had nightmares waiting as the result was the life and death determination of my future...dun even dare to think how i would have handled it if i flopped)....accepted to NTU Engineering Course and MU Science course. I chose Sc in MU as much cheaper and also because i was offered direct entry to 2nd year.
Life in MU...
First year stayed in hostel, joined all the activities in the 1st term until reality struck ...cannot honeymoon like the 1st year students since we had too much to catch up as we skipped year 1, furthermore for the direct-entry students got extra papers to cover the 1st year. So i din hv much time to enjoy in U, 8am-5/6pm Mon-Fri, 8am-12pm Sat.:sad-2:
First year...no bf altho got many suitors, went out with a few boys but no chemistry...somemore mostly Chinese ed people there, so boring.
2nd year...
Moved out to Section 17, PJ. Major in Chemistry yr 3...still no bf.
Final year...
Busy with study and project works. Start dating a physics senior who graduated one year earlier. Throughout the year , ard 10 dates with him but relationship never got steady. :sad-2:
Graduate in April 1995...
Applied everywhere but finally got a job in Carsem Semiconductor Ipoh. There's where i met my husband. Start dating within the 1st month, goone steady the 2nd month.
Left for another job the 3rd month...as an R&D chemist.
Got married 6/9/1997.
Give birth first child 17/10/98, 2nd child 25/1/2002.
Whole family left Ipoh for Singapore in Nov 2004.
....until now....

Not bad Shirlene, Tell us the interesting part of your love story

I still remember clearly the day he asked me to go steady...
....It was a moonlit night, we were strolling along Teluk Batik beach...alone except for a few malay men fishing there. He pop the Q and tried to hold my hand at the same time...but i was too shy, pulled my hands away. the malay men there saw and started cheering "bagi dia peganglah!"
I lol and din feel that nervous anymore. I think my hub learn that tactic from the movie, so familiar ... but so unexpected at that time.:o
But we kept our relationship a secret from our colleagues at that time, they knew onli after i left that company. Actually, a few other engineers there was also after me at the same time, but i had eye for my hub only...:)

Not his frens, just some strangers fishing there.
Proposal very boring...he din even propose. We were having dinner in Pizza Hut then when hub discuss about the ROM and wedding date with me. We already chose a suitable date when i realised he hadn't even proposed to me. That time too late liao, he said i already agree to marry him, no need to propose anymore!

i wonder how many people remember the rag&bone men who used to ronda in Kg Koh when we were all kids. they were like freelance recyclers of bric-a-brac, 2nd hand goods, metals and other junk.
the one who used to frequent our neighbourhood was an indian man who had a very large basket and box tied on the back of the bicycle. all the goods he recovered would be put into the basket or if it's more valuable, into the box which had a padlock. sometimes he brought some assistant, either a youth or a boy, but usually it's just him and his bicycle. he used to try and get the stuff for free, sometimes he would say aisay towkay/ towkaysoh, i take rubbish away for free and never charge you for the service lah.......

anyhow, two incidents i remember quite clearly with the rag&bone man:
once he came by when my dad was not home, but he had been working at the front of the house, so the hammer, saw, hand drill, files, etc were on the porch. immediately the r&b man's eyes lit up cos he wanted to take them away......give u three guesses what my MA said to him :p ! we tidied the tools away into the house extra quick:noworry:
the r&b man then went further down the road of our neighbourhood to see what he could scavenge. unknown to us he saw one lad and asked if he had any junk or goods to sell. the boy went and got his father's new hurricane lantern (about $120) and gave to the r&b man, who gave him $2 (which he spent on ice cream, naturally:D ). this was becoz his mum had sold the old rusty lamp to the r&b man the previous week for $2..........oops!
the boy's father came home shortly afterward, and to cut a long story short, they looked for the r&b man all over Kg Koh and made him give the lamp back otherwise they would report to the police that he tricked the young boy etc etc
well, this put me in mind of the story of Aladdin and the magic lamp......the brand of the hurricane lamp was ALADDIN!
and oh yeah, the young lad is in the forum....go figure!:p

aisayman Ath & VC......because of where i lived in Kg Koh and the kids i hung out with, i think the best way to describe my neighbourhood is that side of the road between the Shell petrol station to Pioneer Methodist Church.

not to say i dint hang out with others living nearby or who also attended MYF or Kok Ming afternoon Chinese tuition with Mr Wong CP (anyone remember him????)or Lynnee's MUM, or who did lots of sports & athletics in ACS S'wan, but that area was the centre of my universe when i was a kid:amused:
