I am using a Linksys wireless and an Aztech modem at home. Pretty good if my Streamyx line holds up. :crying:

Theoretically yes, I put the modem/router DOWNSTAIRS, and I surf UPSTAIRS. Get the wireless router with 2 antennas for double confirmation.

heard abt the double antennas thingy....i am worried abt the interference from the walls...dunno whether to part with RM200++ just to get the flexibility on surfing....somemore i bet i wont use them much.....

The thing is my modem and router is connected to my other office fax machine (we have two in the office) which is on the ground floor (the other is in the 1st floor) and I am sitting in my room which is on the 2nd floor. Connectivity is very satisfactory. Oh yes, I use streamyx too, the RM88-00 package.

I did that for my double-storey house too and I have no problem surfing downstairs when the the modem and routers are upstairs.

better part with a little more now to make sure. If get one that dun work ok now, then have to spent more money later to get the satisfactory results later. Will cost more later.

dats why i want to know which brand to buy....doesn't mean more xpensive is better....
most likely i will go for AzTech brand...should be reliable...

Linksys is a better brand. Looks also nicer. Got mine in Spore, its cheaper there.

I have not really tried far distances. Wireless-upstairs and usually surf downstairs in the porch. But mine comes with B frequency?? so heard if my notebook has B, then can go a bit further.

mine a cheapo made in china. can't remember the brand. i reckon that the life of a modem (or rather, the technology) is abt 1 yr. so no point getting top of the range expensive model (could be the accountant in me talking :p )

I also heard that....but have it separate would be better just in case something happened to the router, you can still use the modem.

you can still serve separately using the router. Unless you are like Alka forumming sitting on the throne. :p

i just got a router with modem a DLink one.. but it's not wireless.... it quite reliable

My laptop can detect many signals, but only one particular line can be connected, but that line not all the time can be detected, and only at certain location of my house. Try placing ur laptop at diff location until it get connected...Mr Addict..

look for either d-link wireless router (RM399 or below)
this one can support up to .11G connectivity...which is very good for future expandation. hehehe

the other one is: Apple Airport Express RM599....small and useful. really good stuff...

u need to configure ur router first. u know how?? using internet explorer wan...

after configure, u only can on ur pc/laptop so u can start detecting ur wireless router. juz on/enable ur wifi card then it should auto detect liao

by the way, the users u planned to "curi" their line might be password protected....all wireless network recommends u to create a password to protect ur line from intruders hahaha

So, if its a router, then you have done the initial configuration and saved the setting into it. Henceforth, you shall be known as Darth Vader.....sorry, Sith mode accidentally kicked in.

Henceforth, you shall no longer need to turn your PC on everytime you wanna surf. Just make sure the modem and wifi router are. Lemme know what brand and model router you got, mebbe can provide more info after that.
