The Forum is growing rapidly and I foresee gate-crashers claiming to be ex-ACSians trying to get into the Forum. Perhaps the administrators should consider allowing any new would-be Forummers to post only after having gone through the following routine:-
1. he/she must declare which year he /she left school;
2. he/she must name/names his/her favourite teacher/teachers in school; and
3. he/she must provide the name of his/her year-mate or classmate;
4. pick at random 3 or 4 of the following general questions about our alma mater to be answered:-
a) the initials ACS stands for?
b) the school is located in Kampung Koh, Kampong Sitiawan, Kampong
Selamat or Kampong Bintang?
c) The building in front of the school is a mosque, a Siamese temple,
or a church?
d) What are the names of the four Houses in the school?
e) What colours are used to represent these four Houses?
f) the sains paduan laboratory is named after Tai Swee Kee, McGraw,
Gong Diong Chang or Moses Tay?
g) Is the school more than 100 years old or less than 100 years old?
h) The first line of the school song?
i) The last line of the school song?
or any other general questions which the administrators can think of.
As per item 4 above, if would-be Forummers can answer most of the questions, then he/she is a true blue ACSian. This is only a suggestion to avoid gate crashers and I am not sure whether the process can be tedious or not.

cucuan,
i think it's a little hard to be able to name favourite teachers...why don't just name teachers...at least we don't practise favouritism...
The admins and mods are currenlty in discussion about this....we will update you all as to the decision being made. Thanks for the suggestion Cucuan. :)
good suggestions, cucuan. i can actually answer all the questions without even thinking too hard :)

Perhaps, we can get them to get a sponsor to join this Forum. A sponsor should be an existing member in the Forum and an active one. Those questions are still valid. Perhaps, need some refinement. But I will definitely fail because I don't know the last line of the school song.

Sad to say that i dread to sing or hear that song when i was in ACS during assembly. Nothing againsts the song....just that it got tired of the constant weekly singing..... :o

Not a good idea as there are some former-students who found this site by searching the web thus having them to be invited may not be convenient for them.

Then you might have to let them register and then ban them again.
For those who found this forum thru the www, the members list is visible to them and they must have known someone here right? S/he can email to that person for referral name. If suspected tipu case, we can always refer back to the introducer for verification.
Anyway, it's just my 2 sen worth (perhaps buff would like to put this in his new blog) :p

Don't think we want to touch that part as you don't want strangers to be sending you messages. The best will still be asking true blue ACS questions during registration.

I mean to the email. I have no problem filtering out mails if it's from the strangers. We got loads of them daily but if someone keen to ask about this forum I will definitely entertain.
Nevertheless, I trust the Admins and Mods are wise to handle all these trivial matter..or should I say Good Problems to have. :)

A-Ha!! How about customizing an online registration form, with about 30-40 questions put in like an examination....making sure that they know the fundamental roots of ACS Sitiawan itself - then only then the Admins start to "mark the so-called papers" and respond with either a sukacita or a dukacita....Referrals are a MUST and a brief intro in the Introductions Column is to be levied upon newly-registered members, without which, even posting replies shall not be entertained....howzat?

In coming out with my suggestion (I call them routine and not tests or whatever name called), I dont mean to tell the administrator to exercise exclusivity. But then would-be Forummers must be able to answer Q.1, 2, 3 and most of the sub-Q in 4. The idea is to find out whether he/she is a true blue ACSian, not some 'celup' one. I am sure we dont want to make the Forum into an exclusive Club. Any ex-ACSians are welcomed. Now Dino, sing with me, "We are proud we are student of A.....C......S". :D

In a brainstorming, we have to listen to all ideas. We can kill the person but we cannot kill their idea!

One way is to have an application form, the person fill out the details and the form is sent to designated mod's email. From there mod will run thru and clarify directly with that person. Certain questions can be asked to confirm identity. Only once approved then they can login and post.

I would prefer cucuan's suggestion as to answer 3 random questions. If they was given 3 questions to answer, and that person really can't answer one of them, how?

We mods asks them for their name and year also, if we know them, we let them in, if not then we will deal with it as it comes.

i agreed with VC. when i sign up, i did mentioned my name and which class im from.
you can ask some addition question to them but DO NOT reveal what is the question. otherwise they would prepare it in hand before signup.
then ask who is your referee and name. from that we will know.

Seems like andrewh invited you and that invitation did not come from the administrators. Hence, how would we know who registered?
Andrewh personally called me to inform that you are who you are, and so, the administrators was kind enough to take their time off whatever they are doing to approve your registration.
My point is (as we have mentioned before), non-alumnus are registering in this forum [hence, gaining access into the underground] and in some cases, spam our forum. The registration/verification is in place to filter out these bogus members.
I'm sure you understand the need for this process since you are one of the Net pioneers.

I know it sounds odd to ask questions when one of our Forummers invites someone to join the Forum especially who is a true blue ACSians. I know the necessity of it all 'cause I suggested some questionaires to be answered for new members to be answered. It all depends on how the administrators put forward the requirement to answer these questions. Maybe the administrators should forward requirements like "there are some formalities to be filled in to get you orientated into the Forum".

An existing ACS forum member/mod are given an "Invite" to the person who want's to join via EMAIL?
Anonymous users found www.acs-sitiawan.com are required to wait for Mod/Admin to approve after filling in the "Sign-In" form.

I suppose anyone who ask to be permitted to appear in this Forum, has to come in in all humility. I think very often the moderators have been mistaken for being patronising. I guess as the word suggest, they have to moderate or verify that all incoming participants are ex-ACSians. I think I dare say that this Forum is not for those who think they are PROUD, HIGH & MIGHTY but for humble and simple folks of ACS Sitiawan.
