Okok.....this is indeed an interesting topic and I bet many of you have even considered this one time or another...haha, we even have ppl in this forum who have already migrated...
okok, here are my queries
1) Why does one migrate?
2) Where to migrate to?
3) When to migrate? in ur 20s? 30s?? 50s???
I have this colleague of mine who is migrating to Australia...it does puzzle me as the need for someone to migrate at times...ie if one is already quite successful and have nice house n cars...is there a need to migrate??

I am staying in Malaysia, I don't see the need for me to migrate, at least for now.
You'll never know what's going to happen the future, right? As for now, I am still fine with Malaysia.
I would think that if you are already successful in Malaysia, you may be ever more successful overseas!! No??

Probably yes, but why move? Success has no limits and is defined in many ways. :)

Actually, if you can make it big in Malaysia, i am sure you have the experience to make it big overseas too. I know that for IT, its your experience that counts.

hmmm let's see....
1) because you cannot take the unfair system in our country
2) a country where there isn't a wide racial divide
3) 20s/30s would be ideal. too old they might not wanna accept u!

haha...don worry, I am not forcing u... :D
for me it wld be the following reasons:
1) fed up of the system and want to try something new
2) either Australia or UK
3) 30s.....
but my main problem is that by then, one wld be too comfortable in Malaysia to even want to migrate.....

From my own experience, the most difficult time when you migrate, is getting familiarize with your enviroment and learning a whole new culture. This may take up to a year just to get familiar with it. Once you know your way round, then its ok. But at the end of the day, best damn decision i've made!! :)

1) if my country becomes too difficult to live in. i thought i would always stay in malaysia but currently am many miles away, at first we thought we were just going for a year or two then oppurtunity arose to stay longer and longer... and now mebbe we'll stay over here but still dunno....malaysia is a very nice place to stay too... :)
2) i'd like to try New Zealand
3) 20s, young people r more adaptable, accent takes a long time to learn...(only kids get it perfectly) that will always set u apart as a foreigner...

When it comes to this questions, there is 1001 things one has to consider. For me, it would be much, much easier to consider this question when I am in my 20s, alone and no obligations, spouse, house, etc.
But when you are in your 40s or 50s or even 30s, please consider this. You would have made it in Msia, spouse, children, house, car, and most of all career. You have some ah mahs to make coffee for you every morning, driver to drive to meetings, etc, etc. What is one actually trying to achieve in life? Money? and more money? and more more money? to do what?
I know of many ppl whom migrated, but return to Msia after a few years citing that there is no place plike home, Msia. We cannot finish earning money, it is everywhere! It is how much one need and how much can you get? Msia is a land of opportunity, if you still don't know. Why are you looking at migrating when a foreign is looking for opportunity in Msia? It still puzzles me!!

Sad to say but my mind is focus on money. When i was in UK, i realize that the spending power of western countries is amazing. So when my aunt asks me if i would like to go to US if i was given the opportunity, i said yes. She sponsor my air-tickets, i called up a friend i have in Seattle, stayed there for a while and got a job.....trust me, when i got a job that would help me out with my work permit....its the best feeling i have. For the first time, i am earning in US money and working for a US company. So money was my main motivation. :o

1) Job opportunity in the line that I want to work.
2) US since this is where the new inovation in IT is happening.
3) 20's/30's but if you are adaptable any age.
Cons:
1) Family/relatives/friends.
2) Food.
3) You will always be a foreigner.
4) Unfamiliar places: Sitiawan will always be home. I like the smalltown/kampung feeling. (Think about it, Westerners take a week or two to go to these small/exotic places once/twice a year for vacation. For some, so called "poorer" people, they live that way their whole life.
So, count your blessings wherever you are. Grass always look greener on the other side of the fence. :)
