lilian just posted some rules in the announcements forum. i thought it'd be a good idea to let there be some discussion.

i've personally received a couple of complaints about flooding (or spamming) in the forum. the other mods/admins have also received complaints (though pm).

let me define flooding. imagine this...
you're bored. you have a couple of hours to burn. you come into the forum to relax. you start posting. you're too lazy to read the whole thread. you read the last 2 or 3 posts in a thread and hantam a reply. you do this for many, many threads. you finished reading all new threads. you go into individual forums. you read the older threads that you have missed before. you hantam also.

if you only make 2 or 3 posts, it's bearable. all of us have been guilty of doing this. but if you post 15, 20 or even 50 replies like this in the space of 2-3 hours, the whole place will kelam kabut.

imagine this also...
someone only have 20 minutes to burn. he comes into the forum. he fetches only the new updates (using "get new"). he's pissed off because he canot differentiate normal posts and your spam. he has 2 choices... continue the spam or leave...

so do your part and make this a better place. please take time to read the rules posted by lilian. it's not rocket science. this is a really lenient forum (those who visit other forums would know). let it remain lenient. if this continues, we'll have to change the style of moderating the place.

i also know of quite a few spats with the mods/admins (mostly through pm). please be more appreciative. they don't get pay and have to put in the effort to moderate the place.

daBoss, I think LiLian suggestion is acceptable.

BTW, warning should be issued to a member.
If a member ignore, then negative reputation points should be given to him/her

please read my post properly :sus: ... no where was it mentioned that if you post a lot, you're considered flooding/spamming.

what i'm saying is if you are spamming (cincai hantam) and you spam a lot, it becomes flooding which a serious problem.

ummm, does that include hijacking of threads? (ie: posting in other peoples thread that is not in the year)

Hijacking per se, does not mean posting in another year's thread. It is the derailment of someone's thread by causing a conversation not relevant to the original post. Derailment for two or three interactions should be okay, but if it goes on for lots of post then it's a ful blown hijacking. Some posters here, like Voon Chan for example, has the right idea in where if a him and another poster has something interesting to talk about, he'll start a new thread elsewhere, instead of hijacking the original thread they're in.

if i not mistake, when i started to join this forum, admin did mentioned few times tt we not suppose to hijack other thread n post... but now seem like widely spread virus wor... hmmm... any clarification? initial say no and now say yes...

as long there is no conflict in interest, shouldnt consider as hijack gua??

so far i know many ppl get *side track* easily... including me too, but yet, we still focus on the main topic when admin highlight to us. *kudos to admin in this part* :p

again, who condoned thread hijacking? who ever told you yes? yes it's happening though... the problem is it's impossible to moderate everything in a general community forum like this...

we may have use terms like 'go hijack the other years', etc... which has a totally different meaning (i.e. creating threads in another a year forum that you do not belong to)...

There is no clear definition to "hijack", VC. Got to follow the heart.

If someone starts a thread to discuss something serious, then 2-3 people come in and talk about other issues most of the time. That is hijacking in my dictionary. Of course a couple (2-3) posts is still okay. If most of the posts are not related to the topic, then that is definitely hijack.

What do you think? Agree with me? Or no? Let us know your views too.

I have to agree with you because I don't know how to define it
I think I will adopt your definition

Thank you

hmmm, i did heard it from someone... really but cant remember who is it... is through verbal talk.

anyway, i read the rules setup by the admin and i thought hijack (in my own dictionary) is not to hijack anyone topic in other class..... but after your explanation, it is much clearer now. hijack can be different meaning for different ppl.

if think straight, hijack mean cannot hijack ppl topic or post any posting in others class, unless in General thread, Kay Po Che and etc...

:D anyway this is my thought at first. thanks for your clarification :p

In HQ dictionary, hijack means posting all over the forum but within the thread topic ;)
