Buff, 6 months you call negligible!!! You can shake hand with Mrs Goh Chok Tong ...she said $600,000 salary per year is peanuts (on Singapore NKF charity CEO pay...).
So buff, you belanja me some peanuts, can?

A quick valuation - I've almost covered all the big accounting firms. In Deloittes, where I slaved for 3 1/2 yrs = increment is RM100 per year, bonus ranges from 0.5 months to 1.2 months. If screw up a case - no bonus, no increment. Working hours - 12 hrs per day.

In PWC (where I slaved for 1 yr, 1 month, 1 day), increment is RM80 but good bonus = 3.8 months. During peak period - working hours is 16 hrs plus plus. But bosses dun respect u. They use "f" tis & "f" tat at u...........

Then I jumped to KPMG - slaved teruk teruk for 2 1/2 yrs, threaten to sue the firm for harrassment, yearly increment = RM115 (flat rate) but bonus is based on collection = 3.5 months (min)......only at the very last minute before I left the firm only I found out tat if I had licked more smelly toes, I would have gotten even more bonus & a faster promotion. But working hours = I work round the clock until my hubby ask me to pick him or KPMG. Also, every day kena scolding (s'times just for turning up at work).

Now - I work from 8am to 5pm, increment - more than 5%, ESOS, contractual bonus, benefits extending to immediate family etc.

Lesson that ppl could have learn from here is - dun work in accounting / audit firm.

Lesson learned the hard way, so am I, but not that "teruk". Me 2 yrs 9 months slavery in Deloitte is enuff, no more Big4 or 5, resign without a job. Turned down Deloitte Sg interview, went in a Sg local firm which is quite relax in the 1st year. In the 2nd year one old partner from Deloitte Sg join in changed everything. #@#^*% ! Almost everything changed back to Deloitte style again, good for the firm, bad for slave. Walao...more work more scolding, no increment, miserable bonus.

Resigned without a job again, 1 of the "good" partner knew it & recommended a job in a client company, win-win situation for all, not bad anyway, just have to travel to the other end of Sg, times was bad then, no choice. So ez life the 1st year there. 2nd year the co. expanding, more work but still can cope.The boss is also too "kiam" liao, typical SME? 1st yr no pro-rated bonus at all, it's not that co. is losing $, beh tahan! 2nd yr bonus std only 1 mth, no performance bonus watsoever except for lucky draw sponsored by poor suppliers. No future working there, just a stepping stone anyway but still better than audit firm in terms of working hours. I already left the boat, now on another "sinking ship", hahaha. May hop onto another "cruise" next week, hehehe. Hope got good news.

I don't think it is worth trading my precious time for a so called "career". It's a personal choice anyway. There is no more "permanent job" nowadays. Just fire your boss, get yourself a promotion & increment, that's a career. Spend more time with someone(s) who will be with you when you are sick, in trouble..etc. If you think the company is kind enuf & able to do all the above, then go ahead spend more time with the co. :p

wah, u've really been 'rolling' around quite a lot :p ... unfortunately i can't afford to resign without a job - too much commitments!! :(

I got commitment also but not that heavy, maybe bcos I use public transport, bicycle & "bus 11"[Being environmental friendly :p ]. It also depends on the timing. In bad times, have to endure the slavery. Hop only when the market is picking up. I keep commitments to the lowest so that can hop with minimum worries. I hop mainly for balance lifestyle, sick of weekly deadline in audit line & unreasonable boss. No risk no gain.

opening own business - a risk that you need to take if it will make you happy...of course, not easy to get things moving. you'll worry about where to source for clients, office expenses etc not forgeting your personal commitments as well. a lot of adjustments required..more importantly, patience.. there's the other thing of time. needs to balance the time spent to stabilise the business with your family and friends etc

but all said and done, speaking for myself, though still struggling, seriously enjoying the fruits of it :D of course, need to thank the one "upstairs" he he he

most important lesson learnt thus far: PATIENCE. RESILIENCE

just sharing :)

Wah....one sunken ship after another. Make sure u're dun get onto the submarine. Submerged terus...man.....

Well, one has to be patience. I waited almost 10 yrs for a good job to come by. When I first join the firm I'm with now, I had a bad time for 6 months. The FM is one bit#h & now tat she has left & join the other division, she is very frighten of me. She made my life very hard & I made sure she knows how much my hatred is towards her. Now I'm here for 2 yrs....my last 1 1/2 year with my FM - is good.

But I've a lot of respect for u. Can resign without a job. I dare not resign without a job - usually I resign b'coz next day I already have a new job lined up.

If u work in Deloitte for 2 yrs plus - u may know my hubby. He works there for almost 5 yrs.

F A M I L Y
I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
"Oh excuse me please" was my reply.

He said, "Please excuse me too;
I wasn't watching for you."

We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said good-bye.

But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
"Move out of the way," I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,
God's still small voice came to me and said,

"While dealing with a stranger,
common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse.

Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."

By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
"Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.

"Are these the flowers you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found 'em, out by the tree.

I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue."

I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn't have yelled at you that way."
He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay.
I love you anyway."

I said, "Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

FAMILY
Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company
that we are working for could easily replace us in
a matter of days.
But the family we left behind will feel the loss
for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more
into work than into our own family,
an unwise investment indeed,
don't you think?
So what is behind the story?

Do you know what the word FAMILY means?
FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU
