Sibling Rivalry

some are the eldest....some are the youngest....some are parents' favourite....some are just the not....share with us some of the stories you have!!!

let me start with mine...

i'm the youngest....so my brothers...kidna don't like to mix with me :(

1. they are boys...so the stuff we play are kinda different...they dun wanna play Barbie with me
2. if i do physical stuff, they wont' want me to join, coz in case i get scrapped knees or stuff like that....papa and mama would scold them .. "you are the older ones, you should take care of your lil sister...blah blah blah...."

so as a result, the 2nd one is almost less outspkoen than the siblings, and more timid... well, that's me laa...

its actually Nivashni..... i and my younger bro normally belasah her cukup-cukup. Normally for no reason. She always cry-baby when she was small. Any time got chance, we hantam and run. Then normally my father, all 6'2" of him, will come to his daughter's rescue!!!

His rule very simple : Run all you want, but when i catch - you DIE!

I and bro also always fight - but very united when it comes to bullying sis. After sis reach about 10 years old (me 14 that time and bro 13) we were not allowed to even touch her. So we turned on each other even more.... normally i win but, my bro gave me a lot of sutures and scars. I think he dismantled most of my milk-teeth when i was in primary school.... once using dad's classic wooden chessboard. (his motto in life that time - SWING ONLY, akibat tanggung later!)

Nowadays, i just let my niece (sis's daughter) to hantam me.... she learning quite fast, now only 11 months but quite good at making you see stars.

me and hisham are the only 2 kids, and me the younger (adik!). because i'm a girl and younger, the only rules my parents had:

a) hisham cannot in any way physically harm me (so he devised a lot of mind games causing me to be screwed up gila habis) :p
b) if you call "mak" or "abah" to report, then we dua-dua oso kena. they won't listen to anybody's side of the story - dua-dua will kena punishment. so crying out doesn't help us!! we have to solve it ourselves.

i used to wear all of hisham's hand me downs until my teens when i couldn't wear his clothes anymore (what to do? in the end the genes get you) so i grew up being a huge tomboy.

example of (a) above: hisham and i were playing gin rummy. i had been beating him (somehow when i was small, good luck at cards), then the phone rings. hisham is dealing the cards while i pick up the phone, talk to whoever then come back. he already dealt the cards. so i pick up my cards, sorted them. UNBELIEVABLE! i only needed 1 MORE CARD to gin and win! hisham says, he dealt, so i get to start first. i say OK. so i put down the 1 card that didn't fit and picked up from the deck, and AMAZINGLY it was the card i needed! can gin in the next turn!

hisham looks at me, grins evilly and IN SLOOOOOW MOTION puts down all of his cards, saying "GIN!!!"

waduhhhhh set up habis!! play congkak oso the fella like that - counting the guli. then we quarrel lah - i claim he cheats, he claims i'm imagining things. but i NEVER cried in front of him. otherwise sure kena ejek to no end. so at nights sometimes i cried in bed because i am so ANGRY at him!! :D

me eldest in the family and eldest among my cousins (both parents' sides!)... grew up with two brothers and a male cousin living under the same roof, so became tomboy lar... otherwise may ended up kena buli...

being the eldest not only make me tomboyish, it also set me on an independent streak, bossy (sheli and kim can testify on this! :p), and a tad too stubborn for my own good... not sure if these are good thing at times...

independence is necessary to survive in this world. it's not a bad thing. and stubbornness shows strong will power. the trick is to get it balanced out - i know i hate ever saying i'm wrong (who likes to do this?) but i'm learning to apologize to the people i wrong for my mistakes. it's a long road to recovery! :p
